Lima, Manolita Correia;Maranho, Carolina Machado Saraiva de Albuquerque;
Ensaio: Avalia??o e Políticas Públicas em Educa??o , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-40362011000400007
Abstract: one of the basic discourse premises in support of the internationalization of higher education is its ability to promote multiculturalism, helping the construction of more reflexive and critical curricula . these new curricula arrangements would transform schools in the epicentre of social transformations, seeking more egalitarian living conditions for all. however, instead of promoting cultural diversity, the internalization of higher education seems to spread a particular form of culture that seeks its legitimacy through the standardization of curricula , syllabi, language structure and cultural experiences. this macro structural education framework needs to be intensely discussed in higher education institutions. based on a critical reflection of official reports and articles in defense of higher education internalization, we tried to reveal the private interests involved, in the hope of arguing for the importance of the political and critical objectives of higher education.

Lima, Manolita Correia;Maranho, Carolina Machado Saraiva de Albuquerque;
Avalia??o: Revista da Avalia??o da Educa??o Superior (Campinas) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-40772009000300004
Abstract: considering the specificities of education internationalization, the purpose of this paper is to present the concepts of active and passive internationalization and apply them to pertinent questions regarding student mobility. initially mobility at a worldwide level will be discussed, considering data from the main countries which "import" and "export" students. finally, the phenomenon among the latin american countries will be placed as well. results suggest that, limited to a few countries, active internationalization creates conditions favorable to the emergence of an hegemonic internationalization (dale, 2004; and others). such conditions contribute to the aggravation of what boaventura de sousa santos (2002), antónio teodoro (2003) and roger dale (2004) denominate as hegemonic globalization. in this context, the regional unbalances widen since there are great differences in the human capital received by central and peripheral countries. the sources of materials explored will be bibliographical and documentary. the documentary research will predominantly use research reports carried throughout a world-wide scope, with the support of multilateral institutions - institut de statistique (unesco, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003); international institute will be education (ocde, 2007; 2006a; 2006b; 2005; 2004); centre pour la recherche et l'innovation dans l'enseignement (ocde, 2004); banque mondial/ocde (2004; 2005); international association of university (unesco, 2003). the selected data will be interpreted with the support of diversified bibliographical references.

Paula, Ana Paula Paes de;Maranho, Carolina Machado Saraiva de Albuquerque;Barros, Amon Narciso de;
Cadernos EBAPE.BR , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-39512009000300002
Abstract: the aim of this article is to question pluralism in critical management studies (cms) movement, to point out the limits of the post-structuralism as a critical epistemology, to denounce the risks of a critique in line with "engagement management" and to show different ways to arrive at a debate between theory and practice on the critical movement. to do so, we described the most important post-structuralism characteristics, questioning the critical status of this epistemology and also questioning pluralism in cms. next, we discuss how some of cms' representatives defend "engagement management" through a critical perfomativity which uses inadequately formulations of post-structuralism. we also discuss other practical approaches for a critique in organization studies, using the concept of praxis and critical education as ways to enlighten consciences and reestablish a critical activism. we conclude that post-structuralism should be taken more seriously, what may indicate that is necessary to build a new theoretical movement to use its contributions, preserving its critical character.

This article presents a critical view of how peddlers were relocated to the 'popular malls' implemented by the Municipal Government of Belo Horizonte, with the purpose of enforcing the code of project Centro Vivo. The argument is that the officials' intention of cleaning up the city caused a disarticulation of the informal work of the peddlers and 'toreros' and increased the precariousness of their social and political working conditions. The media and city hall discourses were contrasted with the discourse of the peddlers, who were interviewed regarding their perception over this phenomena and its consequences for their work.

Abstract: The purpose of this work was to analyze the theater group Galp o based on Frankfurt’s critical theory, more precisely on Adorno and Horkheimer’s concept of Cultural Industry. Galp o group, created in Belo Horizonte twenty-six years ago, set out to resist and question the status quo, performing plays with critical contents, using popular Brazilian folklore and presenting themselves in the streets with the purpose of popularizing the theater art. However, during its trajectory, it was possible to observe some changes in the way of producing their work and searching for sponsorship. With the public’s acknowledgement, Galp o became famous and started to survive on private money. In this context, based on the Cultural Industry concept, it is possible to question if the sponsored art, transformed into merchandise, can be maintained as an instrument of resistance to capitalism. Furthermore, it is also possible to question the pertinence of Adorno and Horkheimer’s theory as an instrument of analysis of the complex market of cultural assets at present.

Cadernos EBAPE.BR , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-39512008000200004
Abstract: it is intended through this article to enlighten how the spatial changes (symbolic and geographical) transformed the business strategies of the informal economic organizations, when they were moved from the streets to a popular shopping named oiapoque, the first of this kind at belo horizonte/mg. trough the perspective of strategy as a social construction and based on the sociological categories of "rua" (street) and "casa" (home) of damatta (1991), about the brazilian society, it is assumed that the symbolical meaning of the shopping is a fundamental factor on the building strategy process as a social construction. primaries data were collected trough semi-structured interview and the technique of subject analysis was used. in conclusion, it was perceived that the locus of this research is understood both as "rua" (street) and "casa" (home) by the respondents. the first group tried to sustain their former strategic practice on the new geographical place, the shopping oiapoque, because they didn't feel it as their "casa" (home). the second group, otherwise, built new strategies practices, based upon the conception as the shopping as a new "casa" (home).

Abstract: To respond to institutionalization, the called “Hippie Fair” of Belo Horizonte exposes its members toconflicts between their quotidian practices of survival and the rules built during de process of itsconstitution. In this paper, the goal is to discussstrategy in a micro social perspective of actors,through agent’s survival issue analysis under an organization studies focus. Workers of “HippieFair”, dealing with different sources of pression,define their existences through instable and notclear paths using strategies which, usually, subvert established rules. Pathways identified in thispaper allow understanding the construction of strategies under regulation instances. To deal withthe Fair quotidian dilemmas, individuals constructand reconstruct their strategies, which “emerge”in Fair organizations as mechanisms of interactionbetween micro and macro contexts. Throughqualitative ways, these subversive practices are showed to get a better understanding of strategicmaking, what is an interesting approach under organization studies point of view.

Abstract: This article proposes to analyze the street vendors’ identity in the city of Belo Horizonte, MinasGerais, during their geographical change from the streets to the so called Shoppings Populares.This study uses discourse analysis to understand this process, as a methodological instrument. Thediscourses used were extracted from the widespreadnewspapers and some interviews with thestreet vendors. It was used the categories of identity, territory and space.
