Psychology (PSYCH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2012.34043
Abstract: Quality of life (QoL) has been considered worthy of assessment in the treatment, prevention and rehabili- tation of cancer patients. As it has a psychological dimension, is important to investigate the relationship between quality of life and psychological concepts like self-efficacy and psychological well-being. Ob- jective of the present study is to examine the QoL, self-efficacy and psychological well-being in adults with cancer. Methods: 50 patients completed self-report questionnaires: WHOQOL-bref, General Self- Efficacy Scale and GHQ-12 in two periods (T1 = timeline; T2 = follow up 1 year later). A paired t-test did not identify significant differences in the QoL self-efficacy and psychological well-being between T1 and T2. However, men had a better overall QoL and in the physical and social dimensions, and psycho- logical well-being in T1 compared with the women. In T2 there were significant differences between men and women only in the social and psychological dimensions of the QoL. The self-efficacy in T2 was the only predictive variable of the QoL in T2, explaining 71.9% of its variance. It is concluded that, in the pe- riod of one year, the QoL, psychological well-being and self-efficacy were stable, but gender differences were identified. The variables measured in T1 were incapable of predicting the QoL in T2. The gender differences found in QoL and psychological well-being can be used to guide specific future interventions with these patients.

Abstract: Purpose: To examine quality of life, psychological well-being and self-efficacy in young females with breast cancer. Participants: 37 patients with breast cancer (average age = 36,54; SD=2,85). Measures: WHOQOL-bref, general health questionnaire-12 and general self-efficacy scale. Results: Pearson's correlation showed positive and significantly correlations among quality of life, well-being and selfefficacy. t test revealed that female who had undergone a total mastectomy had better environment quality of life than female submitted to a partial mastectomy. Linear regression analysis indicated that well-being and self-efficacy were significant predictors of total quality of life, explaining 48.4% of the variance. Thus, it was observed the importance of positive psychological variables like well-being and self-efficacy to quality of life in these patients.
Further Investigation on the Correlation between Ionization Potential and Superconductivity of Oxides
Wei CHEM,Ruzhang MA,

材料科学技术学报 , 1994,
Abstract: The relations of oxygen content, critical temperature TC and mean ionization potential < U0> of superconducting oxides are reported. We found that in oxides oxygen is the major element which governs their < U0> te values and thus oxygen content plays an jmportant role in their superconducting properties. As for Y(123)- and T1-systems oxygenation may improve their TC values, but for Biand Hg-systems oxygenation process is not so important. In Y(123), as the oxygen content increase results in the increase of TC upon < U0>to, while the substitution of Ba2+ by Sr2+ causes the decrease of TC upon < U0 >. These results may provide some clues about the superconductivity of oxides and support further that < Uo > is really a good criterion for oxide superconductivity. Two kinds of possible superconducting oxides are predicted in this paper according to the mean ionization potential criterion.

Abstract: summary. there are few data regarding folate deficiency and its impact on outcome pregnancy. the purpose of this study was to determine the association and its magnitude between prematurity and folate deficiency in women in their third trimester of pregnancy, and at labor. an incident case - control study was conducted using 2 controls per case. data was obtained in a tertiary hospital in valencia, venezuela. a total of 543 women who delivered between may and december 1996 entered into the study. women having a preterm delivery (<37 weeks of gestation at delivery) were defined as cases (n = 181). anemia was defined according to who as hb less than 11g/dl, when a pregnant woman had a folate serum level < 3 μg/ml was considered a folate deficiency. logistic regression was used to analyze the data and likelihood ratio test was done for model comparison. folate deficiency was found to be significantly associated with prematurity (odds ratio: 1.97; 95%ci = 1.06 to 3.68 p = .032), after adjusting for prior preterm labor, prenatal care visits, prior abortion, prior fetal death, placental abruption, and premature rupture oval membranes. in conclusion, maternal folate deficiency at the end of the third trimester of pregnancy, at labor, was associated with an increased risk of prematurity.

Revista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgi?es , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-69912005000600008
Abstract: background: fluid collections such as hematoma and seroma are by far the most frequent complication in abdominal dermolipectomy. seroma has variable incidence and late presentation. hematoma can be an early finding but can be later too because of the dead space that can fill before it can be clinically detected. the objective of this study is to show the patient profile and to evaluate if drainage contribute in fluid collections formation. methods: this clinical trial randomized 2 groups (with and without post-operative drains) that underwent to abdominal dermolipectomy at plastic surgery service of the santa casa hospital of porto alegre. results: from january 2003 to april 2004, 63 patients underwent abdominal dermolipectomy. in 30 (group 1) a closed drainage was used, and in 33 (group 2) surgical wound was not drained. seroma ocurred in one patient of group 1 and in two of group 2, and hematoma ocurred in one patient of group 2, with no statistical significance. of the 63 patients, 58% had their first pregnancy between 16 and 20 years of age, and 19 had multiple pregnancies. conclus?o: we concluded that the patient profile is women, with early first pregnancy, multiple pregnancies and recent weight loose. the fluid collections were not affected by the use of post-operative drainage.

Abstract: with laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the intraoperative cholangiography has been motive of intense controversy. some authors perform it routinely. they consider laparoscopic cholecystectomy only an alternative to open access and, in that case, must be the same as conventional procedure. on the other hand, many authors believe that few patients have a true indication to evaluate the biliary tree. these authors do selectively intraoperative cholangiography. we performed 309 laparoscopic cholecystectomies between may 1993 and june 1997. the records of these patients were reviewed. our results and experience with intraoperative cholangiography are evaluated. we usually perform intraoperative cholangiography by cystic duct catheterization, whenever feasible and without risk of injury to the biliary tree. it was possible in 244 (78.9%) cases. the main cause of unsuccessful was the presence of narrow cystic duct and occurred in 21 (6.8%) patients. the exam was normal in 229 (93.8%). unsuspected choledocholithiasis was detected in six (2.4%), cystic duct draining into right hepatic duct was present in three (j.2%)and one (0.4%) had a choledocal cyst. the intraoperative cholangiography was a safe procedure in our patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and, with our results, we recommend your routinely employment.
