Abstract: helicobacter pylori (h. pylori) colonizes 50% of the world′s population. the infection is acquired during infancy; an age group of non-invasive diagnostic methods need to be urgently validated. our aim was to review the literature and evaluate the usefulness of serological diagnosis with special emphasis on the paediatric population. the relevance of these methods has been focused in epidemiological studies. in adult populations, the determination of antibodies against h. pylori exhibits a sensitivity and specificity of over 90%, being comparable to other invasive endoscopy based methods. in the paediatric population, the performance of serological testing has been less successful, with lower sensitivity and specificity. this underlies the need to establish more precise cut off values, based on local populations, where studies using antibodies as diagnostic markers of h. pylori are planned

The Perinatal outpatient department is a multidisciplinary team that cares for parents of prenancies with malformations and vital risk and newborn with severe diseases that hits the family core. We work under the hypothesis that support the idea of a benefit for the fetus or the newborn while treir parents are attended and supported in his fear, grief and feelings of been blame about the child situation

Abstract: background: the double-blind food challenge is the gold standard for diagnosis of food allergy, eventhough it is difficult to standardize and execute. an increase in allergy prevalence worldwide accentuates the importance of evaluating food allergy markers, in order to help the diagnosis. objective: elaboration of an operational definition for food hypersensitivity (fh) and evalúate the role of allergy markers, endoscopio and hystological findings, gastric mucosa cytokines and personal/family history of allergy in children. method: enrollment of children with suspected peptic disease referred for endoscopy. we obtained antral biopsies for hystological evaluation (eosinophil and mast cell count) and measurement of mucosal cytokines through an elisa test. patients were evaluated with prick test, total serum ige and clinical questionnaires for allergies. they were divided into two groups; children with and without food hypersensitivity. results: 97 children were enrolled (mean: 11.7 ± 3, range 3-18). 4% of children had fh. the endoscopio findings did not correlate with the presence of fh. 74.1% of patients without fh had eosinophils in the gastric mucosa compared to groups with fh which had 100%) (p < 0.05). only il-2 among the evaluated cytokines was found in a greater concentration in patients without fh. 33%> of patients considered themselves having history of personal allergies versus 11.8% of people without fh (p < 0.05). conclusions: 12,4% of children with digestive symptoms referred to endoscopy have fh. there are no clinical, endoscopio or hystological differences between patients with or without fh.

Abstract: Background Chronic oral quercetin reduces blood pressure and restores endothelial dysfunction in hypertensive animals. However, quercetin (aglycone) is usually not present in plasma, because it is rapidly metabolized into conjugated, mostly inactive, metabolites. The aim of the study is to analyze whether deconjugation of these metabolites is involved in the blood pressure lowering effect of quercetin. Methodology/Principal Findings We have analyzed the effects on blood pressure and vascular function in vitro of the conjugated metabolites of quercetin (quercetin-3-glucuronide, Q3GA; isorhamnetin-3-glucuronide, I3GA; and quercetin-3′-sulfate, Q3'S) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Q3GA and I3GA (1 mg/kg i.v.), but not Q3'S, progressively reduced mean blood pressure (MBP), measured in conscious SHR. The hypotensive effect of Q3GA was abolished in SHR treated with the specific inhibitor of β-glucuronidase, saccharic acid 1,4-lactone (SAL, 10 mg/ml). In mesenteric arteries, unlike quercetin, Q3GA had no inhibitory effect in the contractile response to phenylephrine after 30 min of incubation. However, after 1 hour of incubation Q3GA strongly reduced this contractile response and this effect was prevented by SAL. Oral administration of quercetin (10 mg/Kg) induced a progressive decrease in MBP, which was also suppressed by SAL. Conclusions Conjugated metabolites are involved in the in vivo antihypertensive effect of quercetin, acting as molecules for the plasmatic transport of quercetin to the target tissues. Quercetin released from its glucuronidated metabolites could be responsible for its vasorelaxant and hypotensive effect.

Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias , 2010,
Abstract: the cholecystitis is a gall-bladder inflamatory patology, the obstruction and biliar infection could be the principal causes of presentation. the diagnosis is dificult because the clinical signs as clinicopatological abnormalities are inespecifics, so the ultrasonography is a important method of diagnosis, because the visualization of thickeny of the gall-bladder’s wall or hiperecogenic bile induce to suspect cholecystitis. the bile culture and antibiograma permit to define the specific antibiotic treatment. a clinic case is described to emphasize the importance of ultrasonography in the canine cholecystitis diagnosis.
