Green tea increases the survival yield of Bifidobacteria in simulated gastrointestinal environment and during refrigerated conditions
Dan C Vodnar, Carmen Socaciu
Chemistry Central Journal , 2012, DOI: 10.1186/1752-153x-6-61
Abstract: The major compound identified by HPLC-LC/MS in green tea was epigallocatechin gallate followed by caffeine and epigallocatechin. The survival yield of probiotic bacteria in microcapsules with 10% GT during storage at 4°C, demonstrated significantly (P?<?0.05) higher number of survival bacteria. Microencapsulated B.infantis and B. breve with 5% and 10% GT showed a significantly (P?<?0.05) improved survival under simulated gastric conditions (pH 2.0, 2?h) and bile solution (3%, 2?h) when they were compared with microencapsulation without GT addition. The results of this study suggest that green tea coencapsulated with B. infantis or B. breve exert a protective effect of bacteria during exposure to gastrointestinal conditions and refrigerated storage. For a health perspective, the results confirm the growing interest probiotic bacteria and the perceived benefit of increasing their numbers in the gastrointestinal tract by microencapsulation. The active delivery of probiotic cells in microencapsulated form has received reasonable attention during the last 10?years, since it can reduce losses of sensitive bacteria induced by detrimental external factors during storage and digestion [1]. Several reviews [2] summarized the potential of microencapsulation to improve probiotic survival during storage or gastrointestinal transit. Alginate is the most widely used matrix for microencapsulation, but its use is limited due to low stability in acidic conditions [3,4]. Therefore coating of alginate with chitosan improved the stability of alginate beads and thus improved the viability of the encapsulated probiotic bacteria, as previously shown by Krasaekoopt et al. [5].Bifidobacteria selectively colonize the intestinal tract of breastfed infants and are also relevant colonic bacteria in adults [6]. The strains commonly regarded as human probiotics belong to the species Bifidobacterium bifidumB. breveB. infantisB longumB. lactis and B. animalis, which are included in functional dairy pr
Acento e identidad profesional en la formación del docente de inglés: Una perspectiva crítica
Chacón C,Carmen Teresa;
Paradígma , 2010,
Abstract: in this article, i argue that teachers′ professional identity is constructed through a constant process of participation and meaning negotiation in each community of practice. based on theories and research about identity and its impact on teachers′ self efficacy beliefs and how these beliefs influence the construction of professional identity, there is a need for teacher education programs to shift the paradigm to teach english as a foreign language. in learning english, prospective teachers should develop a critical language awareness that helps them understand that language carries an ideology. from this perspective, they need to be exposed to topics related to the native nonnative dichotomy, accent, and standard english to debunk these hegemony discourses that assign an inferior r status to nonnantive teachers who should also be recognized as legitimate models and speakers of the english language. due to the fact that such beliefs influence english teachers' professional identity and because identity is multiple and changes over time there is need to incorporate pedagogical experiences that contribute to construct a sense of professional identity so that teachers feel identified with their context and hold a multicultural perspective and ample credibility as legitimate speakers of english.
DEBATING ABOUT SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP
Carmen C?RSTEA,Dumitru Constantinescu
Management & Marketing , 2012,
Abstract: In this paper we analyzed the cirumstances of every day life which requires the need to adapt the leadership style. Leadership needs a lot of abilities and skills, including the capability to communicate. The paper deals with leader’s need of changing the style of leading as organizational circumstances change. The process is efficient only when the leaders and the followers have the right climate. The importance of this process is reflected in the productivity of the organization. As the economic climate changes the leadership style needs to be changed and also the style of communication throughout the leader coaches, coordinates, evaluates and supervises. Leadership is about organizing a group of people to achieve a goal. The leader may or may not have any formal authority. Students of leadership have produced theories involving traits, situational interaction, function, behavior, power, vision and values, charisma, and intelligence, among others. This paper describes the styles of leadership which the leaders must use and switch when is needed in comparison with what leadership is about.
Non-scientific information about science in the dynamics of information and memory - DOI: 10.3395/reciis.v3i3.288en

Abstract: This paper raises issues related to specific cultural products – science fiction movies - and analyzes them in the light of the field of information science. It questions the role of science in the context of fiction and information. It intends to establish the status of a piece of fictional information about science. We believe that the dynamics of the memory of the genre is related to the very dynamics of non-scientific information about science. We analyze movie remakes, and take each movie as a moment of a major narrative about the subject science. The approach of knowledge from the point of view of fictional creation, considering information as a structuring element of a discursive phenomenon of the movie culture, is analyzed in the context of cultural dynamics and a praxis of memory. We assume that remakes, by presenting different versions of the same fictional narrative, reorganize facts that had been presented in the first version, aiming at achieving a balance between new and already seen. We present the analyses that have been performed for two movies: Time Machine (1960, 2002) and War of the Worlds (1952, 2005) taking science and the actor as reference, and we highlight some features of this type of information.
ON THE PRESENCE OF ROSA MICRANTHA BORRER EX SM. IN MOLDOVA (ROMANIA)
C. M?NZU,CARMEN AONCIOAIE
Scientific Annals of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi. New Series, Section 2. Vegetal Biology , 2011,
Abstract: Until 2007, there were no data on the presence of Rosa micrantha Borrer ex Sm. in Moldova, most of the authors considering these species as unreported from this historical province of Romania. Researches between 2009 – 2011 led to the identification of 5 locations in Bac u, Neam and Suceava counties.
Some Considerations about the Bouchaud-Cates-Ravi-Edwards model for granular flow

Abstract: In this paper we discuss some features of the BCRE model. We show that this model can be understood as a mapping from a two-dimensional to a one-dimensional problem, if some conditions are satisfied. We propose some modifications that (a) guarantee mass conservation in the model (what is not assured in its original form) and (b) correct undesired behaviors that appear when there are irregularities in the surface of the static phase. We also show that a similar model can be deduced both from the principle of mass conservation (first equation) and a simple thermodynamic model (from which the exchange equation can be obtained). Finally, we solve the model numerically, using different velocity profiles and studying the influence of the different parameters present in this model.
