Método para avalia??o da qualidade de processos construtivos em empreendimentos habitacionais de interesse social
Berr, Letícia Ramos;Formoso, Carlos Torres;
Ambiente Construído , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-86212012000200006
Abstract: the difficulties of controlling, maintaining and improving the quality of construction processes have been pointed out in several studies, despite the dissemination of the certification of quality management systems in brazil. in the case of the social interest housing subsector, construction companies operate in a context of high level of activities and limited profit margins, which demands the quality of processes to be controlled in order to avoid waste. this research work proposes a method for assessing quality of construction processes in terms of conformance in social interest housing projects. the processes that most affect the quality of housing projects were identified based on the literature, on the perception of experts, and on complaints from users. the data obtained results in a set of quality indicators related to the conformance of construction processes. the main contribution of this investigation is the proposed method, and the indicators of process compliance obtained during its implementation. data were collected in projects from the metropolitan region of porto alegre, and from caxias do sul, and pelotas, in the state of rio grande do sul.

The First Metacarpal is the Thumb First Phalange: EvoDevo Implications
Valenzuela,Carlos, Y; Berríos-Loyola,R; Canals,M;
International Journal of Morphology , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-95022009000400004
Abstract: we examined the status of the first metacarpal bone whose shape, fetal and post-natal development correspond to those of the thumb proximal phalanx. galen already described this, circa 170 ce. our radiographic data confirm that the pre-axial (radial or anterior) side of the hand matures, later than the post-axial (ulnar or posterior) side, both, pre- and post-natally. a new perspective on thumb primate and human ontogeny is discussed and comparative observations on the evolutionary development (evodevo) of the thumb and the first toe are proposed along with a nomenclature honoring galen's original proposition.

Abstract: background: cardiovascular risk factor (rf) assessment is essential to prevent and predict cardiovascular disease. the presence of rf at early ages, are determinant for the presence of atherosclerosis later in life. aim: to determine the rf profile of young subjects with high carotid intima media thickness (cimt). material and methods: we studied 689 subjects (50% women, mean age 36±6 years) from santiago, chile. we determined body mass index (bmi), waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting serum lipids, blood glucose and c-reactive protein. cimt was assessed by ultrasound using an automatic border recognition software. results: body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure and serum lipids were significantly higher among subjects located in the higher cimt quartile. also, subjects in the higher quartile of cimt had a higher prevalence of three or more rf compared with the lower quartile (p = 0.01). finally, individuals with three or more rf showed three times more risk of being in the higher cimt quartile, than subjects with no rf (odds ratio = 3.1, p < 0.01). conclusions: there is a negative influence of cardiovascular rf on cimt among young subjects.
