Abstract: El propósito de este estudio fue investigar la presencia de Helicobacter pylori, realizar la caracterización del polimorfismo -31 del gen de la interleucina 1-β humana y establecer si existe asociación entre la presentación de alguno de los genotipos y la severidad de las manifestaciones clínicas en una población colombiana. Se analizaron biopsias gástricas provenientes de 71 pacientes, mediante histopatología y métodos moleculares (PCR y PCR-RFLP). Los resultados mostraron que el 97,2% de los pacientes presentaba alteraciones de la mucosa gástrica. La presencia de H. pylori se demostró en 44 pacientes y la frecuencia de los genotipos de IL-1B: TT, CT y CC fue de 12,7%, 60,6% y 26,8% respectivamente. No se encontró asociación entre los genotipos de la región polimórfica -31 del gen IL-1B y el grado de alteración de la mucosa gástrica en la población estudiada. Abstract: Introducción: el aceite esencial extraído de especies del género Eucalyptus, entre estas Eucalyptus tereticornis, ofrece un importante potencial para el control de hongos patógenos e insectos plaga y de importancia médica. Objetivo: evaluar la actividad anti-insecto (aguda, crónica y repelente) de una emulsión aceite/agua del aceite esencial de Eucalyptus tereticornis, en función de su composición química y fraccionamiento. Métodos: se prepararon emulsiones aceite/agua con aceite esencial previamente extraído, separado y caracterizado, y 2 de sus fracciones (A y B). Se evaluó su actividad anti-insecto mediante bioensayos con Drosophila melanogaster. Se determinó la fitotoxicidad foliar sobre plántulas de Phaseolus vulgaris. Resultados: el aceite completo mostró considerable actividad repelente e insecticida aguda que guarda relación con su composición química. La actividad insecticida aguda de las fracciones disminuyó de manera notable con respecto a la mostrada por el aceite completo, sin embargo, no se observaron efectos significativos sobre la actividad repelente. En ningún caso se presentó fitotoxicidad foliar sobre frijol. Conclusión: el aceite esencial de esta especie de eucalipto posee actividad anti-insecto considerable y podría formularse directamente como insecticida para el control de insectos de interés agrícola y médico. Introduction: the essential oil extracted from Eucalyptus species, including Eucalyptus tereticornis, offers significant potential for control of fungal pathogens and insect pests and medical importance. Objectives: to evaluate the anti-insect activity (acute, chronic and repellent) of an oil/water emulsion of Eucalyptus tereticornis essential oil in terms of their chemical composition. Methods: oil/water emulsion was prepared with essential oil previously extracted, separated and characterized, and two of its fractions (A and B). Their anti-insect activity was evaluated through bioassays on Drosophila melanogaster. Foliar phytotoxicity was evaluated on seedlings of Phaseolus vulgaris. Results: the complete oil showed considerable acute repellent and insecticide activity related to its chemical composition. The acute insecticidal activity of the fractions decreased significantly if compare with that of the whole oil , but neither significant effects on the repellent activity nor phytotoxicity on the bean leaves were observed. Conclusions: the essential oil of this eucalyptus species has considerable anti-insect properties and could be formulated as an insecticide for the control of insects of agricultural and medical signif

Abstract: this article delivers the final results obtained from the baseline on the issue of citizenship in 2006, resulting from the incorporation of social research to project entitled citizenship competences: "citizens with everything and everybody", developed since 2004 and up to the present by the family compensation fund of caldas, confamiliares. the results presented here and the generalizations possible in the analysis, applied to the educative context of basic secondary and middle education of the department of caldas, since the groups surveyed, resulting from sampling, were distributed in public institutions of the majority of its municipalities. these findings are also applicable to the context of workers linked to the compensation fund, without excluding that contained generalizations can be closely related to measurements on the same subject and for the same group (business partners and citizens), developed by the undp and other research entities of the caldas. in order to carry out abovementioned diagnosis study approximately 230 surveys were executed divided into two groups. the experience in the city of bogota was used as a methodological model, consistent with the governing period of the mayor antanas mocus, as well as measurements performed in the cities of cali and medellin.

Abstract: helicobacter pylori caga protein, the caga gen product, has been considered as a virulence factor associated with a considerable increase risk for develops severe gastric illness. the purpose of this research was to design a molecular and bioinformatics strategy that allowed the establishment of phosphorylation status of the tyrosine residue of the caga protein. the amplification and sequencing of the variable fragment region of caga in the positive caga samples were used to do the bioinformatics analysis in order to establish the characteristics of the epiya motifs. the presence of the epiya-a and epiya-b motifs, followed by one or two epiya-c repetitions, similar to those reported previously for occidental countries were set up. from the different bioinformatics applications that were employed only one group of tools proved to be useful to characterize the repeated units presents in the caga protein.

Abstract: the origin and development of the neotropical rainforest are still a mystery. angiosperms, which dominate modern forests, originated during the early cretaceous (~140 ma). during the cretaceous, however, the neotropical forest was dominated by gymnosperms and ferns. it was not multi-stratal and had a low photosynthetic potential. the fall of a meteorite 65 ma ago transformed the neotropics. forests that evolved after the meteorite event became multistratified. the canopy was dominated by angiosperms and had high photosynthetic potential, similar to modern tropical forests. over the past 60 m.y., the climate of the tropics has varied greatly, with pronounced global warmings and coolings. forest diversity increased during the warmings and decreased during the coolings. in the last 10 m.y., the savannas have greatly expanded. the fossil record suggests that extant tropical plants already had the genetic variability to cope with high temperatures and co2 levels.
Design and Analysis of a Single-Camera Omnistereo Sensor for Quadrotor Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs)

Abstract: We describe the design and 3D sensing performance of an omnidirectional stereo-vision system (omnistereo) as applied to Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs). The proposed omnistereo model employs a monocular camera that is co-axially aligned with a pair of hyperboloidal mirrors (folded catadioptric configuration). We show that this arrangement is practical for performing stereo-vision when mounted on top of propeller-based MAVs characterized by low payloads. The theoretical single viewpoint (SVP) constraint helps us derive analytical solutions for the sensor's projective geometry and generate SVP-compliant panoramic images to compute 3D information from stereo correspondences (in a truly synchronous fashion). We perform an extensive analysis on various system characteristics such as its size, catadioptric spatial resolution, field-of-view. In addition, we pose a probabilistic model for uncertainty estimation of the depth from triangulation for skew back-projection rays. We expect to motivate the reproducibility of our solution since it can be adapted (optimally) to other catadioptric-based omnistereo vision applications.
