On the geometry of horseshoes in higher dimensions
Carlos Gustavo Tamm de Araujo Moreira,Waliston Luiz Lopes Rodrigues Silva
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: The criterion of the recurrent compact set was introduced by Moreira and Yoccoz to prove that stable intersections of regular Cantor sets on the real line are dense in the region where the sum of their Hausdorff dimensions is bigger than 1. We adapt this concept to the context of horseshoes in ambient dimension higher than 2 and prove that horseshoes with upper stable dimension bigger than 1 satisfy, typically and persistently, the adapted criterion of the recurrent compact set. As consequences we show some persistent geometric properties of these horseshoes. In particular, typically and persistently, horseshoes with upper stable dimension bigger than 1 present blenders.
Limits of permutation sequences through permutation regularity
Carlos Hoppen,Yoshiharu Kohayakawa,Carlos Gustavo Tamm de Araújo Moreira,Rudini Menezes Sampaio
Mathematics , 2011,
Abstract: A permutation sequence $(\sigma_n)_{n \in \mathbb{N}}$ is said to be convergent if, for every fixed permutation $\tau$, the density of occurrences of $\tau$ in the elements of the sequence converges. We prove that such a convergent sequence has a natural limit object, namely a Lebesgue measurable function $Z:[0,1]^2 \to [0,1]$ with the additional properties that, for every fixed $x \in [0,1]$, the restriction $Z(x,\cdot)$ is a cumulative distribution function and, for every $y \in [0,1]$, the restriction $Z(\cdot,y)$ satisfies a "mass" condition. This limit process is well-behaved: every function in the class of limit objects is a limit of some permutation sequence, and two of these functions are limits of the same sequence if and only if they are equal almost everywhere. An important ingredient in the proofs is a new model of random permutations, which generalizes previous models and is interesting for its own sake.

Abstract: this study aimed to demonstrate the viability of using path analysis of post harvest resistance in salad tomatoes type (lycopersicon esculentum), analyze the variables key involved and guide the selection of material for breeding programs. we applied a randomized complete block design, with three replications and ten fruits per plot. data analysis adopted is a causal diagram illustrating the resistance considering post harvest as basic variable and the explicatory variables: fruit mean diameter, peduncle scar diameter, mesocarp thickness, soluble solids content and ph. we perform the variance analysis, genotypic correlations, the multicolinearity diagnosis, and the display of genotypic correlations through path analysis. path analysis of post harvest it is efficient, suggesting that their use is not restricted to the productive characters. the peduncle scar diameter and the fruit mean diameter are the characters that more explained the variations of post harvest resistance in tomato salad type. increases in post harvest resistance can be obtained through indirect selection by peduncle scar diameter. this increase will be higher if among the fruits with smaller peduncle scar diameter, the fruits with higher fruit mean diameter would be selected.
On the Lagrange and Markov Dynamical Spectra for Geodesic Flows in Surfaces with Negative Curvature
Sergio Augusto Roma?a Ibarra,Carlos Gustavo T. de A. Moreira
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We consider the Lagrange and the Markov dynamical spectra associated to a geodesic flow on a surface of negative curvature. We show that for a large set of real functions on the unit tangent bundle and for typical metrics with negative curvature and finite volume, both the Lagrange and the Markov dynamical spectra have non-empty interior.
On the Lagrange and Markov Dynamical Spectra
Sergio Augusto Roma?a Ibarra,Carlos Gustavo T. de A. Moreira
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: We consider the Lagrange and the Markov dynamical spectra associated to horseshoes on surface with Hausdorff dimensions greater than 1. We show that for a "large" set of real functions on the surface and for "typical" horseshoes with Hausdorff dimensions greater than 1, then both the Lagrange and the Markov dynamical spectrum have persistently non-empty interior.
Ordering and phonons in Ba$_3$CaNb$_{2}$O$_9$ complex perovskite

Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1016/j.materresbull.2013.05.005
Abstract: In this work we performed a detailed investigation about ordering in \bcn perovskite. The sintering temperature and time were changed to obtain samples with different ordering. The order parameters were probed by Raman spectroscopy based on a partial disordered model. To use the partial disordered model correctly we performed {\it ab initio} calculations in \bcn to assign the optical phonons. The results showed that sintering temperature improves order while sintering time is not so efficient to promote order.

Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2010000100008
Abstract: post-polio syndrome (pps) in individuals with polio longer than 15 years is characterized by weakness and/or muscle fatigue, deficit of deglutition and breath and periodic limb movements (plm) during sleep. we undertook a review of 99 patients with pps, and assessed the frequency of plm through polysomnographic recordings at our sleep disorders unit. the total number of plm, total time of sleep (tts), efficiency of sleep (efs), awaking index (ai) and apnea-hypopnea index (ahi) were analyzed. sixteen patients presented plm in excess of 5 for the entire night. when comparing these with the group without plm, a correlation was found (p=0.001). significant difference was found for the correlation of the parameters: iah, id, tts and efs when compared the two groups. there is a close relationship between pps and plm.

Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1808-86942011000400010
Abstract: otorhinolaryngology residents' quality of life must be investigated during medical residency. work-related factors impacting their lives, such as depression, sleep deprivation and excessive work load may impact the well-being of these individuals. objective: to assess and discuss the quality of life of otorhinolaryngology resident physicians in distrito federal (reuni-orl). materials and methods: cross-sectional study, the quality of life of each individual was assessed by means of a questionnaire specifically designed for this purpose - whoqol-bref, proposed by the who. results: males had better psychological scores when compared to females (p= 0. 013). mean scores comparison among the years in residency were statistically significant only in the psychological domain when comparing the first and second years (p=0. 046), in which 2nd-year residents had the higher scores. conclusions: despite constant changes to the ent program (reuni-orl) in the distrito federal, aiming at improving work and training conditions for residents, there still is a psychological burden in their first year of residency
