Revista PRETEXTO , 2011,

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate four isolates of the antagonist fungus dicyma pulvinata in terms of its compatibility with chemical pesticides and adjuvants products, and the efficiency of these isolates as biocontrol agent against south american leaf blight (microcyclus ulei) of rubber tree (hevea sp.) under field conditions. isolates compatibility with chemical pesticides and adjuvants was evaluated on mycelial growth and fungus sporulation in vitro. to assess the efficiency of the antagonist against m. ulei under field conditions, the four isolates were compared to the control by the fungicide mixture propiconazol + mancozeb. the assays showed incompatibility of the antagonistic fungus with the fungicides benomyl, carbendazim, mancozeb, propiconazol, besides the insecticide-acaricide endosulfan. two of the adjuvants tested did not affect the fungus development. it was demonstrated the action of d. pulvinata against m. ulei, in the field, especially for the isolates cen 62 and cen 93, which showed control levels similar to the fungicide standard treatment.
The spectrum of computerized tomography (CT) findings in central nervous system (CNS) infection due to Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii in immunocompetent children

Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de S?o Paulo , 2002,
Abstract: Cranial CT scans of eleven immunocompetent children with central nervous system (CNS) infection due to Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii were retrospectively reviewed. These children had an average age of 8.8 years and positive culture for C. n. var. gattii in cerebrospinal fluid. The most common signs and symptoms were headache, fever, nuchal rigidity, nausea and vomiting. No normal cranial CT was detected in any patient. Hypodense nodules were observed in all patients . The remaining scan abnormalities were as follows: nine had diffuse atrophy, six had hydrocephalus, and five had hydrocephalus coexistent with diffuse atrophy.

Movimento , 2010,

Abstract: appropriate boron (b) availability in soils favors root growth, and a sufficient supply of this micronutrient is very important for adequate rice development and yield in upland fields, depending on the cultivars and soil type. this study aimed at evaluating the influence of b addition on growth of roots and shoot of three upland rice cultivars. the experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, in 10 l pots containing 8 kg of an hapludox; the experiment was in a completely random 3 x 3 factorial design, with four replications. the treatments consisted of three rice cultivars (caiapó, primavera, and maravilha) and three b rates (0, 3 and 6 mg dm-3), as borax. the b rate of 6 mg dm-3 boron was deleterious to dry matter yield of both roots and shoot in upland rice. besides the greater absorption capacity, cultivar maravilha was more tolerant to high b doses in the soil, thus root length, diameter and surface were not negatively affected.

Abstract: this article discusses the theory and practice of health and education, beginning with the notion of the hegemony (in health education practice) of strategies linked to the notion that to grasp established knowledge always leads to the acquisition of new behaviors and practices. five different axioms have oriented education and health practices, either juxtaposed or at different moments: (1) the notion of overcoming the determination of knowledge over practices; (2) the determination of representations over practices; (3) the analysis of representations within the traditional framework of right and wrong; (4) reciprocity between representations and practices; and (5) the importance of considering practices amenable to re-elaboration through representations, thus situating experience in understanding subjects' illness processes, as well as the way subjects culturally construct illness. the article highlights the need for a link between social representations and illness-as-experience in health education practices.

Abstract: Este artigo discute a teoria e prática da educa o e saúde.

Abstract: surface lime application to an acid soil under no-till system and normal rainfall conditions increases yield and crop root growth near the soil surface, but the effects of lime sources like flue dust, sewage sludge and aqueous lime have not been fully investigated . the experiment aimed to evaluate the effects of surface application of different lime sources on soil chemical attributes of a clayey, dystrophic oxisol and black oat root growth and yield under a no-till system. evaluations were conducted two years after the lime materials were surface-applied. the treatments consisted of surface applications of centrifuged sewage sludge, flue dust, aqueous lime, dolomitic lime and an unlimed control arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. surface application of lime, flue dust, aqueous lime and sewage sludge increased soil ph, exchangeable ca, resin p and reduced the exchangeable al in soil. black oat root growth, above-ground dry matter and grain yield increased with surface applications of the different lime sources in no-till system.

Abstract: we report 19 cases of cryptococcosis in children, diagnosed in belém, pa. in nine patients the variety of the etiologic agent was studied and identified as cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii.the average age of these patients was 7.8 years (range, 5-13 years) there were 5 girls and 4 boys (ratio, 1.25:1). amphotericin b treatment (associated with fluconazole 3 or fluocytosine 1) was given but five (56%) of these patients died in the following three months. the existence of highly endemic areas of infection by var. gattii in pará, brazil and the severity of the disease due to this fungal variety are commented.
