GASIFICACIóN DE BIOMASA PARA PRODUCCIóN DE COMBUSTIBLES DE BAJO PODER CALORíFICO Y SU UTILIZACIóN EN GENERACIóN DE POTENCIA Y CALOR
CARLOS AUGUSTO ESTRADA,ALBERTO ZAPATA MENESES
Scientia Et Technica , 2004,
Granada,Alberto; Estrada,Victoria; Pinto,Diana; Borrero,Elizabeth; Carrasquilla,Gabriel;
Revista de Salud Pública , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0124-00642005000200008
Abstract: objectives: this article describes the difficulties encountered in obtaining information about health services, sanitation and health insurance coverage supply, use and coverage regarding a sample of colombian municipalities during 1991-2000. the availability of information is also analysed in terms of decentralisation and municipal development. methods: this was a cross-sectional study of a random stratified sample of 495 colombian municipalities; information regarding the variables of interest was requested at municipal and departmental level and from national sources. a scale was constructed for measuring the availability of information at local level. non-parametric statistics were used for testing differences in availability of information in terms of certification and municipal category. results: applying the scale revealed 51% availability of data regarding health service supply, 39% for data regarding service use and 45% for both types of information (supply and demand taken together). no information was available in 32% of the municipalities. information was more readily available in non-certified and less developed municipalities. conclusions: study findings provided indirect evidence of difficulty in obtaining information regarding health systems at both municipal and departmental levels; this represents an important obstacle for health system management and evaluating performance, as well as for research and widening knowledge (and availability to such knowledge) in this area.

Scientia Et Technica , 2009,
Rodríguez,Carlos Alberto; Prieto Pinto,Frank A;
Innovar , 2009,
Abstract: the present article analyses the differences between two samples of colombian and french university students regarding their beliefs about entrepreneurship, as well as their degree of sensitivity for undertaking an entrepreneurial project once they have finished their studies. a brief description of azjen's theory of planned behaviour (tpb) is given, serving as conceptual basis for applying such tool. the methodology used for collecting the information is then given, as are the results obtained; some conclusions and recommendations are then made.
Billetes como fómites de bacterias con potencial patógeno para el hombre Paper Currency as Fomite for Bacteria with Human Pathogenic Potential
Carlos Alberto Betancur,Santiago Estrada,María Teresa Ceballos,Elisa Sánchez
Infectio , 2010,
Introduction: Paper currency is one of the articles of highest circulation worldwide. In Colombia, the raw material for its manufacture is 100% cotton fiber, which gives it a porous structure that allows bills to lodge different types of debris and enables microbial colonization of this paper. Aim: Determine the presence of bacterial contamination and its type in bills circulating in the city of Medellin. Materials and methods: Out of convenience, 101 bills were selected for microbiological examination from December 2008 to May 2009. This analysis included the isolation of the bacterial microbiota present on both surfaces of the notes, using the swab technique and performing the taxonomic classification of the isolates obtained. Results: 91.1% of the evaluated bills presented microbial contamination for a total of 124 isolates. The genus most frequently isolated corresponded to Bacillus; it was isolated in 65 cultures (52.4%). 41.9% of the isolates corresponded to bacteri

Delbem, Alberto Carlos Botazzo;Tiano, Gilberto Carlos;Alves, Karina Mirela Ribeiro Pinto;Cunha, Robson Frederico;
Journal of Applied Oral Science , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-77572006000400004
Abstract: objetives: the aim of this study was to verify the anticariogenic effect of acidulate solutions with low naf concentration, using ph-cycling model and bovine enamel. material and methods: enamel blocks were submitted to the surface microhardness (smh) test and randomly divided in 12 experimental and one placebo groups. the blocks were submitted to ph cycling for 7 days, with daily applications once/day of 0.05% naf and 0.1% naf and twice/day of 0.02% naf solutions. four different ph: 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 were used. next, smh test was again used to determine the surface microhardness percentage change (%smh). data obtained for %smh were homogeneous and passed through variance analyses and tukey's test (5%) as far as fluoride concentrations and ph. results:the results showed that ph influenced %smh in 0.02% naf and 0.05% naf solutions with ph 4.0, which had less mineral loss compared to ph 7.0 (p<0.05). the 0.02% naf - ph 4.0, and 0.05% naf - ph 7.0 groups showed similar results (p>0.05). a dose-response relationship was observed among the tested solutions, with better anticariogenic effect for the 0.1% naf solution. conclusion: the results suggest that the addition of citric acid to acidulate mouth rinses reduce mineral loss.
