Role of metabolic control on diabetic nephropathy
Macedo Célia Sperandéo,Capelletti Sonia Maria,Mercadante Maria Cecília Salgado,Padovani Carlos Roberto
Acta Cirurgica Brasileira , 2002,
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: The aim of this investigation was studying the influence of glucose metabolic control on diabetic nephropathy. The authors observed the effect of acarbose, insulin, and both drugs on the metabolic control and development of mesangial enlargement of kidney glomeruli in alloxan-diabetic rats. METHODS: Five groups of Wistar rats were used: normal rats (N), non-treated alloxan-diabetic rats (D), alloxan-diabetic rats treated with acarbose (AD), alloxan-diabetic rats treated with insulin (ID), and alloxan-diabetic rats treated with insulin plus acarbose (IAD). The following parameters were evaluated: body weight; water and food intake; diuresis; blood and urine glucose levels; and the kidney lesions: mesangial enlargement and tubule cell vacuolization. Renal lesions were analysed using a semi-quantitative score 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after diabetes induction. RESULTS: Diabetic rats showed a marked increase of glycemia, urinary glucose levels, diuresis, water and food intake, and weight loss, while the treated diabetic rats showed significant decreased levels of these parameters. The most satisfactory metabolic control was that of diabetic rats treated with acarbose + insulin. There was a significant mesangial enlargement in diabetic rats compared to normal rats from the third up to the 12th month after diabetes induction, with a significant difference between the animals treated with acarbose + insulin and non-treated diabetic rats. A difference between the animals treated with acarbose or insulin alone and non-treated diabetics rats was not seen. CONCLUSIONS: The authors discuss the results stressing the role of diabetic metabolic control in the prevention of diabetic nephropathy.

Hydration structure analysis of lysozyme amyloid fibrils by thermally stimulated depolarization currents (TSDC) technique
Maria Grazia Bridelli,Rosanna Capelletti
Spectroscopy: An International Journal , 2008, DOI: 10.3233/spe-2008-0339
Abstract: Thermally stimulated depolarization currents technique has been employed to investigate the conformation of hen egg white lysozyme in native and amyloid form, in the state of powder at very low hydration level. The technique, able to detect the current generated by thermally activated reorientation of water dipoles previously oriented by an electric field, exploits H2O dipoles, belonging to the solvation shell, as a probe to gain information on the protein conformation.

Educa??o geográfica: a psicogenética e o conhecimento escolar
Castellar, Sonia Maria Vanzella;
Cadernos CEDES , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-32622005000200005
Abstract: on the bases of the theoretical conceptions of psychogenetics, this paper explores learning and didactics in school geography. it thus presents some aspects of geographical thought, which it articulates with the pedagogical knowledge. it then proposes a new reading of the didactics in the teaching of geography grounded on the assumptions of the theories of piaget.
Política social e democracia: reflex?es sobre o legado da seguridade social
Teixeira, Sonia Maria Fleury;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 1985, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X1985000400002
Abstract: the article tends to approach the social political field from the citizenship development. as it is understood the roll of the rights and duties is established among the citizens whose condition is confered. in this way, the author tries to show that the social politics are state's interventions conditioned by the existent necessity and from the historical context in which they arise. thus, they can assume different forms such as the social assistance, social security and the state social welfare. the predominancy of either one of these forms in each society has shaped different models of state's intervention refering to the social questions, in more developed countries which differ according to the major or minor justice and impartiality of the social services advantageous systems. in latin america, the development of social policies faced specific problems that are analysed by the author.
Processos de forma??o e aprendizagem no meio rural: o continuum família-escola
De Vargas, Sonia Maria;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782003000300008
Abstract: this article seeks to give visibility to the training process of rural lay teachers and to understand how this group of professionals continues to exist. it distinguishes the components of this process in the countryside, experienced by the social subjects/social actors who develop simultaneously the activities of students and of rural workers, making it necessary to reveal the relations existing between the macro social context and education in the countryside. in this sense, it emphasises the importance of the differentiated use which the rural family makes of the school space and services, establishing a strict relationship between the two institutions not only with reference to the appropriation of school knowledge but also with reference to the services and practices which the school can offer to the family, above all to the rural mother worker. in the same way as the school makes use of the different spaces available in the community - like the teacher's house, the church or the community hall - in order to carry out its specific functions, the rural family establishes with the institution school - the presence of the state in the community - a specific use which serves their immediate needs. in the article, the testimonies of the teachers are revisited and, on the basis of their memories of schooling and professional practice, certain significant questions are analysed in order to broaden the discussion on rural education.
Programa Integra??o: avan?os e contradi??es de uma proposta de educa??o formulada pelos trabalhadores
Rummert, Sonia Maria;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782004000300010
Abstract: the text analyses the integration programme, developed by the workers central trade union organisation (cut), within the context of the programme of professional qualification (pnqr). it deals specifically with the way in which this programme was implemented by the telecommunication workers' trade union in rio de janeiro, focusing on the problem of telecommunications in brazil and its repercussions on workers and on their representative entities. the contradictions inherent in cut's option for the role of executor of a policy of workers' education, embodied in the national programme of professional qualification (planfor), implemented by the state under the hegemony of neoliberal inspiration are also discussed. the advances and limitations of the theoretical-methodological contributions of the integration programme to the education of adult and young workers are also dealt with, giving special emphasis to their potential.
