Abstract: cystic fibrosis (cf) is a lethal autosomal recessive genetic disease caused by mutations in the cf transmembrane conductance regulator (cftr). mutations in the cftr gene may result in a defective processing of its protein and alter the function and regulation of this channel. mutations are associated with different symptoms, including pancreatic insufficiency, bile duct obstruction, infertility in males, high sweat cl-, intestinal obstruction, nasal polyp formation, chronic sinusitis, mucus dehydration, and chronic pseudomonas aeruginosa and staphylococcus aureus lung infection, responsible for 90% of the mortality of cf patients. the gene responsible for the cellular defect in cf was cloned in 1989 and its protein product cftr is activated by an increase of intracellular camp. the cftr contains two membrane domains, each with six transmembrane domain segments, two nucleotide-binding domains (nbds), and a cytoplasmic domain. in this review we discuss the studies that have correlated the role of each cftr domain in the protein function as a chloride channel and as a regulator of the outwardly rectifying cl- channels (orccs).

Abstract: einstein's paper on the quantum theorem of sommerfeld and epstein [1,2], published in 1917, proposes a generalization of the quantization rule of bohr, sommerfeld and epstein for multi-dimensional integrable systems. einstein also points out that non-integrable systems could not be quantized with such rules. this observation indicates for the first time the non-triviality of the semiclassical limit of chaotic systems and can be considered a pioneer in the theory of quantum chaos.
GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF DESERT SHEEP UNDER GRAZING CONDITIONS IN NORTH KORDOFAN STATE

Abstract: The experiment was conducted to study the effect of changing the nomadic husbandry practices during summer with feed supplementation and water restriction on the performance, carcass characteristics of desert sheep (Hamari sub type). Thirty desert sheep of about 8 month age were randomly allocated to three groups (ten animals each, 5 males and 5 females), group (A) watered daily and supplemented with concentrates, (B) watered daily only and (C) watered every 2- 3 days and was considered as control (the normal nomadic husbandry). The results included that average final live weights were significantly (P<0.05) different among the groups and were not significantly affected by sex but males in group A were heavier than the other two groups. The tail length, height at withers, heart girth, chest depth and body length were significant (P<0.05) different between the three groups. The average daily live weight gain was significantly (P<0.05) different among the groups, and the highest rate of gain was in A followed by B and C, respectively. The average daily live weight gains obtained were significantly (P<0.05) different between females and males of groups A, B and C. The males gave higher daily live weight gains than females. These results concluded that management strategy which involves shorter watering intervals and feed supplementation will probably reflect positively on the performance of Hamari sheep under range conditions.
Comparative Morphological Studies on the Lacrimal Apparatus of One Humped Camel, Goat and Donkey

Abstract: The purpose of current study was to describe the comparative topography and morphology of the lacrimal gland and its drainage apparatus in one humped camel, goat and donkey. The lacrimal apparatus gross anatomy studied on four camels head 4-10 years age, four goats’ head 1-3 years age and four donkeys head 2-6 years age. The lacrimal gland was irregular flattened and elongated lobular in shape, pink in color with characteristic indented borders composed by three lobes the main caudal, coma shape lateral and cranial lobes in camel, while it was flattened and oval in shape, light brown in colour possessed two distinct parts, a body and appendage-like part in goat, whatever, it was ovoid in shape, light brown in colour in donkey. The lacrimal gland was larger in size in donkey and goat than that of camel in relation to body weight. The dorsal and ventral lacrimal puncta were absent and the lacrimal duct started blindly at the medial part of the upper and lower eye lids in camel, while in goat and donkey, the dorsal and ventral lacrimal puncta appeared slit like openings, they were lead to lacrimal sac. The nasolacrimal duct ran in the osseous lacrimal canal rostrally, with a slight curve at its origin. It passed the lacrimal, zygomatic and maxillary bones. It passed through the maxillary sinus and then traversed the nasal cavity in a curved descending fashion, covered only by the nasal mucosa and a thin connective tissue membrane on the lateral surface of ventral nasal concha. The nasolacrimal duct opened at the medial wall of the nasal vestibule at the junction between the mucous membrane and skin by the nasal opening of the nasolacrimal duct that was very minute in camel and goat while it was clearly observed in donkey.

Abstract: Viroids are the smallest pathogens of plants. They are the cause of serious diseases on economic plants worldwide. Prevention and detection of the pathogens are the best method to reduce the economic loss from viroid infection. During last decade, genetics and molecular biology techniques have gained an increasing presence in plant pathology research. The purpose of this review is to highlight the most upgrade molecular biology techniques that have been used and studied recently. Most relevant published reports and hand skilled techniques have presented here with emphasis on suitable Viroid detection technique should be used for Sri Lanka.
