Competitividad y cohesión social: el caso de la industria del vestido en Yucatán
Canto Sáenz, Rodolfo;
Estudios sociales (Hermosillo, Son.) , 2011,
Abstract: the article takes the view that competitiveness and social cohesion are complementary variables. in yucatan non-inclusive models of economic growth have prevailed: the production of sisal during the twentieth century and the maquiladora industry for export, particularly clothing, in the last two decades. currently, the maquiladoras are leaving yucatan; nearly 100 companies have closed down and around twenty thousand jobs have been lost; however, there remain about two thousand micro and small businesses from the garment industry which are an important economic asset. the paper explores the possibility of moving towards an inclusive model of economic development that simultaneously promotes competitiveness (efficiency) and social cohesion (equity) in the garment industry with a resolute policy of promoting the development of technological capabilities and the formation of human capital, as an objective basis for improving workers' income and quality of life.

Zurba, Magda do Canto;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822011000400002
Abstract: in this study we have tried to understand the collective health through the modes of subjectivity related to the production of symptoms.the central focal point consists in understanding the creation and maintenance of patterns of sickness/health within everyday life. we identified potential treatment options for the psychologist within the context of health. accordingly, we identify epistemological aspects of practicing psychology based on a socio-historical concept of the subject. therefore, drawing on the premise of symptoms as a form of language, we propose a model of psychological intervention appropriate to the national politics of mental health, highlighting strategies of action for sus (sistema único de saúde or brazil's universal health care system) on three levels of patient-health complexity: low, medium, and highly complex. each level of psychological treatment in healthcare can be understood based on a dialectic understanding of the construction of the subject and the corresponding production of symptoms.
La muerte voluntaria en Yucatán durante el porfiriato
Canto Valdes, Luis Roberto;
Secuencia , 2012,
Abstract: this articie on suicide in yucatán during the porfiriato seeks to understand the preconceptions about suicides. this paper's contribucion lies in the fact that it incerprets the way these characters were perceived and described on the basis of articles in the 19th century press and judicial records analyzed in connection with the industrial boom at the time. suicides commonly elicited feelings of pity but before expressing this grief, efforts were made to find a reason that would explain why people had killed themselves. in this respect, the paper analyzes the cases of voluntary death in light of the modernizing effect of the time in order to obtain a better understanding of how this type of events occurred.
Gobernanza y democracia: De vuelta al río turbio de la política
Canto Sáenz, Rodolfo;
Gestión y política pública , 2012,
Abstract: taking as its starting point the concepts of governance of rhodes and kooiman, the article develops a critique of the theory of shared government between elected governments and civil society or market actors for its potentially adverse implications for democracy, such as the uncertainty regarding accountability of nongovernmental actors, the lack of presence of major groups of the population in the networks of actors and the absence of redistributive policies in the discourse of governance. on this basis, it argues the need to look back to the traditional political arena as an area of public statement, aggregation of social demands and the main option for political participation by large groups of the population in latin america. the paper argues that strengthening democracy goes through the development of politics, rather than by their escape into the networks of governance.

The 1957 regulations for the reform of the teaching of architecture initiated a process of successive changes in everyday practices in architecture courses that would culminate in a crisis in 1969. During the decade in which it was in force, the new system proposed by the reform proved incapable of introducing new teaching methods or democratising the way in which the schools were run, and remained bound by the authoritarianism of the Ministry of Education. However, its academic and administrative rigidity encouraged teachers and students to develop strategies, involving both planning and reflection and debate, aimed at promoting the social function of the architect as a professional concerned with the problems of society and the city, as opposed to the technocratic architect.In 1968 and 1969 the architecture schools in Lisbon and Oporto, like the university and society in general, politicised their discourse. Students and teachers openly called for major changes in school management, teaching methods and educational objectives, demanding a reform of the 1957 Reform.This text explores the critical moments in this process of growing political and social awareness amongst students, who sought to re
