Abstract: The article aims at suggesting a dialogue between some theoretical concepts often used on Latin-American political participation and social movement literature, namely: political project, political culture, hybridism and frame. Taking into account the theoretical debate on political culture and democracy in Latin America weanalyze three social movements emerged in Argentine in the 90’s and the beginning of the XXI Century. After discussing some of the characteristics of these social movements we argue that such movements represent an innovation to the meaning of political participation and democracy and that this innovation allows us toquestion, to some extent, what has been generally treated by the literature as the Latin-American traditional political culture.
Poder simbólico e protesto: uma análise das representa es dos governos brasileiros e argentinos sobre as a es do MST e do movimento piquetero

Espacio Abierto , 2012,
Abstract: The article aims to identify and analyze representations produced by governments in Brazil and Argentina to classify social protest and its protagonists between 2000 and 2005. Working with the concept of "nomination power" (Bourdieu, 2007), the study analyzes speeches by executive power representatives regarding protest actions, published in newspapers from 2000 to 2005. Through thematic content analysis, the speeches of ministers, presidents and spokesmen are examined in the categories of: protest actions of MST and the piqueteros; MST and piqueteros as political actors; and official reactions by the government to such actions

Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-80342010000300012
Abstract: purpose: to investigate the existence of hearing impairments in infants with phenylketonuria with early diagnose and treatment, and to compare the audiological findings with those of their normal peers. methods: vocal and pure-tone audiometry and acoustic immitance tests were conducted in 63 children, 30 from a control group, with mean age of 8.1 years, and 33 from a study group, with phenylketonuria and mean age of 7.7 years. the study group was subdivided according to diet control: 15 subjects had adequate (mean age of 8.1 years) and 18 had inadequate diet control (mean age 7.2 years). statistical analysis used t-test or anova. results: audiometry showed that, in the control group, 83.3% of the subjects had normal hearing, and 16.7% had uni- or bilateral conductive hearing loss. in the study group, 66.7% of the subjects presented normal hearing, and 33.3% had conductive hearing loss. immitance measures showed normal results in 91.7% of the children from the control group, and in 72.7% of the subjects with phenylketonuria. differences were found between the groups regarding hearing thresholds, acoustic reflexes, speech reception thresholds, and speech recognition. no differences were observed between the results of phenylketonuria subjects with adequate and inadequate diets. conclusion: children with phenylketonuria early diagnosed and treated presented worse conductive hearing thresholds, speech reception threshold and speech recognition when compared to their normal peers, as evidenced in pure-tone and vocal audiometry.
"Escute, pai": diálogos entre filhos(as) e pais em can??es populares brasileiras

Abstract: the relationships between parents and their children configure a specific part of the relationship between generations, as they occur on the nucleus of the family, which is a social institution linked together by dependency, responsibility and emotional bounds. several songs which have these relationships as a theme are grouped on the album como nossos pais (2008) (like our parents). this album exemplifies a tendency, also present in the phonographic industry, of the preservation of musical production, as it presents several recordings from dates varying between 1966 to 1988. from this album, we have selected three songs that clearly fits the scenario of a son/daughter speaking to his/her father: papai me empresta o carro (dad lend me the car) (by roberto de carvalho and rita lee); já fui (i'm gone) (by marina lima and ant?nio cícero); pai (father) (by fábio jr.). in an analysis that articulates contributions from sociology and psychology, we reveal how these songs show different moments of the process, with their contradictions, through which the youth conquers maturity and autonomy. we also show how these songs reflect the social transformations on the configuration of the family and sexual behavior. we also discuss, based on the typology proposed by tatit, how these songs deal differently with the relationship between lyrics and melody.

Policy Contexts of Social Work in Britain: the wider implications of 'New' Labour and the 'New Legal Regime'
Penna, Sue
Social Work and Society , 2003,
Abstract: Several commentators have expressed disappointment with New Labour's apparent adherence to the policy frameworks of the previous Conservative administrations. The employment orientation of its welfare programmes, the contradictory nature of the social exclusion initiatives, and the continuing obsession with public sector marketisation, inspections, audits, standards and so on, have all come under critical scrutiny (c.f., Blyth 2001; Jordan 2001; Orme 2001). This paper suggests that in order to understand the socio-economic and political contexts affecting social work we need to examine the relationship between New Labour's modernisation project and its insertion within an architecture of global governance. In particular, membership of the European Union (EU), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Trade Organisation (WTO) set the parameters for domestic policy in important ways. Whilst much has been written about the economic dimensions of 'globalisation' in relation to social work rather less has been noted about the ways in which domestic policy agenda are driven by multilateral governance objectives. This policy dimension is important in trying to respond to various changes affecting social work as a professional activity. What is possible, what is encouraged, how things might be done, is tightly bounded by the policy frameworks governing practice and affected by those governing the lives of service users. It is unhelpful to see policy formulation in purely national terms as the UK is inserted into a network governance structure, a regulatory framework where decisions are made by many countries and organisations and agencies. Together, they are producing a 'new legal regime', characterised by a marked neo-liberal policy agenda. This paper aims to demonstrate the relationship of New Labour's modernisation programme to these new forms of legality by examining two main policy areas and the welfare implications they are enmeshed in. The first is privatisation, and the second is social policy in the European Union. Examining these areas allows a demonstration of how much of the New Labour programme can be understood as a local implementation of a transnational strategy, how parts of that strategy produce much of the social exclusion it purports to address, and how social welfare, and particularly social work, are noticeable by their absence within policy discourses of the strategy. The paper details how the privatisation programme is considered to be a crucial vehicle for the further development of a transnational political-economy, where capital acc

Quantum dynamics of two-dimensional vortex pairs with arbitrary total vorticity
V. Penna
Physics , 1999, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.59.7127
Abstract: Quantum dynamics of a vortex pair is investigated by considering the pair Hamiltonian within various, unequivalent algebraic frameworks. First the vortex pair spectrum is constructed in the standard contest of the e(2)-like dynamical symmetry and its degeneracy is thoroughly examined. Then the Berry phase phenomenon is studied through an su(1,1) realization of the pair Hamiltonian when its parameters are assumed to be time-dependent, whereas the Feynman- Onsager quantization conditions are recovered by means of symmetry arguments within a third approach based on a magneticlike description of the vortex pair. Finally, it is shown how recasting the dynamical algebra in terms of two-particle realization of both su(2) and su(1,1) provides the correct approach for the quantization of the model Hamiltonian accounting for the pair scattering from a disklike obstacle.
