Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-879X2002001000018
Abstract: the effect of dose and volume of a perimuscular injection of bothrops jararacussu venom on myonecrosis of skeletal muscle was studied in mice. an increase of the venom dose (0.25 to 2.0 μg/g) at a given volume (50 μl) resulted in an increase in plasma creatine kinase (ck) levels 2 h after injection. plasma ck activity increased from the basal level of 129.27 ± 11.83 (n = 20) to 2392.80 ± 709.43 iu/l (n = 4) for the 1.0 μg/g dose. histological analysis of extensor digitorum longus muscle 4 h after injection showed lesion of peripheral muscle fibers, disorganization of the bundles or the complete degeneration of muscle fibers. these lesions were more extensive when higher doses were injected. furthermore, an increase in volume (12.5 to 100 μl) by dilution of a given dose (0.5 μg/g) also increased plasma ck levels from 482.31 ± 122.79 to 919.07 ± 133.33 iu/l (n = 4), respectively. these results indicate that care should be taken to standardize volumes and sites of venom injections.

Pulsed ultrasound therapy accelerates the recovery of skeletal muscle damage induced by Bothrops jararacussu venom
Saturnino-Oliveira, J.;Tomaz, M.A.;Fonseca, T.F.;Gaban, G.A.;Monteiro-Machado, M.;Strauch, M.A.;Cons, B.L.;Calil-Elias, S.;Martinez, A.M.B.;Melo, P.A.;
Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-879X2012007500033
Abstract: we studied the effect of pulsed ultrasound therapy (ust) and antibothropic polyvalent antivenom (pav) on the regeneration of mouse extensor digitorum longus muscle following damage by bothrops jararacussu venom. animals (swiss male and female mice weighing 25.0 ± 5.0 g; 5 animals per group) received a perimuscular injection of venom (1 mg/kg) and treatment with ust was started 1 h later (1 min/day, 3 mhz, 0.3 w/cm2, pulsed mode). three and 28 days after injection, muscles were dissected and processed for light microscopy. the venom caused complete degeneration of muscle fibers. ust alone and combined with pav (1.0 ml/kg) partially protected these fibers, whereas muscles receiving no treatment showed disorganized fascicules and fibers with reduced diameter. treatment with ust and pav decreased the effects of the venom on creatine kinase content and motor activity (approximately 75 and 48%, respectively). sonication of the venom solution immediately before application decreased the in vivo and ex vivo myotoxic activities (approximately 60 and 50%, respectively). the present data show that ust counteracts some effects of b. jararacussu venom, causing structural and functional improvement of the regenerated muscle after venom injury.

Calil, Ana Maria;Sallum, Elias Aissar;Domingues, Cristiane de Alencar;Nogueira, Lilia de Souza;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692009000100019
Abstract: the objective of this study was to identify the body regions most affected in traffic accident victims and to map the trauma and severity of the lesions. a systematic literature review using key words related to traffic accidents, transportation accidents, wounds and injuries found a total of 248 articles. the electronic bases lilacs, medline, and paho were surveyed between the years 1990 and december 2006. this review emphasized a series of conclusive studies about the most frequent body regions involved and the major injuries occurring in these situations. it also indicated information gaps in the brazilian literature. we believe that these findings are valuable for pre-hospital and intra-hospital teams and point the way to new investigations.
A Rainha Comilona: dialogismo e memória na escritura escolar
Calil, Eduardo;
Bakhtiniana: Revista de Estudos do Discurso , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S2176-45732012000100003
Abstract: this article discusses the relationship between dialogism and memory, considering the act of the writing process as the object of investigation. characterized as a study of an ethnolinguistic nature, we propose a link between the notions of "semantic memory" and "object memory". the proposed link uses textual genetics and enunciation linguistics as reference, espousing the hypothesis that the writer's dialogic and intersubjective condition generates the activated content during the begetting and formulation of an idea. to this end, we analyze the initial minutes of the process of writing a fictional story, performed (and filmed) in an elementary school context, in which the participants are two newly literate students (6-year-olds). the recollection of this dynamic reveals not only how the title was conceived and the importance of the context of literacy, but also and especially the role of fortuity and unpredictability for an understanding of how it works.

Abstract: oral erasures in stepmother and the two sisters: writing process of a recently literate dyad eduardo calil federal university of alagoas abstract belonging to the field of studies about the creation of texts in school (text genetics) and enunciative processes (linguistics of enunciation), the present article offers a discussion about the oral erasures that emerge during the writing of an invented story, when two recently literate pupils (seven-year-old girls) elaborate and write together a school assignment. based on considerations about the chance emergence of these erasures along the flux of the speech and about the interlocutory and inter-discursive dialogism that constitutes the speech of these pupils, the text describes some forms of their manifestation, which are accompanied by comments that preclude or justify the inclusion of an element in the position of another. respecting the ethnolinguistic characteristics, the process of creation of texts was filmed in a classroom in the city of s?o paulo and transcribed using the software eudico linguistic annotator (elan). the transcription carried out, by associating and synchronizing the simultaneity of the various elements (linguistic, modulative, discursive and gestural) that emerged in the flux of speech, allowed the identification of different types of comments, characterized as pragmatic, textual and semantic. the analysis emphasizes, on one side, the hazard and the instant of its occurrence and, on the other, the interlocutory and inter-discursive dialogism present in the mode of speech of these pupils. the intersubjective disagreement identified in the dialogue text highlights one term, questioning it and commenting it, so that it can be substituted, inserted, or suppressed from the final text. the fortuitous and dialogical character of the feedback of the writers about what was said characterizes the oral erasure, and is the testimony of the subjective positions that singularize both the writing process and
Partido de Representa??o Popular: estrutura interna e inser??o eleitoral (1945-1965)
Calil, Gilberto;
Revista Brasileira de Ciência Política , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-33522011000100013
Abstract: the purpose of this paper is to discuss the structuring of the partido de representa??o popular [popular representation party] between 1945 and 1965, with emphasis on its internal organization and its election insertion. the main hypothesis is that the party effectively configured as a national party of anti-communist, anti-democratic and fascist character. data on the structure of its party directories at municipal and state levels are analyzed, as well as information on the expansion of its organizational structure over the period, and the election results it obtained. based on these data and analyses, it is possible to conclude that the party actually reached a national structure, both in organizational terms and in relation to the electoral results obtained, although a significant proportion of its vote has remained concentrated in the most developed and populous states.

This article discusses the relationship between dialogism and memory, considering the act of the writing process as the object of investigation.
