Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management , 2008,
Abstract: Moisés Calderón1, Tove Brandt21Section of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Royal Brompton Hospital, Imperial College, NHLI, London, UK; 2Group Clinical Development, ALK-Abelló A/S, H rsholm, DenmarkAbstract: Immunotherapy is the only treatment for allergy that has the potential to alter the natural course of the disease. Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for grass pollen-induced rhino-conjunctivitis has been developed to make immunotherapy available to a broader group of allergic patients. In the largest clinical programme ever conducted with allergen-specific immunotherapy, over 1,700 adults and 260 children have been exposed to Grazax . Grazax is formulated as an oral lyophilisate (tablet) for sublingual administration, containing 75,000 SQ-T standardized allergen extract of grass pollen from Phleum pratense. Grazax is indicated for treatment of grass pollen-induced rhinitis and conjunctivitis in adult patients with clinically relevant symptoms and diagnosed with a positive skin prick test and/or specific IgE test to grass pollen. In phase I trials doses from 2,500 to 1,000,000 SQ-T were tested. All doses were well tolerated and 75,000 SQ-T, with approximately 15 μg major allergen protein, was chosen as the optimal dose. Three phase III trials are ongoing, one being a long-term trial. Results from GT-08 trial first and second treatment years showed a reduction of 30% and 36%, respectively, in daily rhino-conjunctivitis symptom scores and a reduction of 38% and 46% of daily rhinoconjunctivitis medication scores compared with placebo over the entire grass pollen season. Subjects treated with Grazax also had an increased number of well days and improved quality of life, and more subjects experienced excellent rhino-conjunctivitis control. The most common adverse events related to Grazax are local reactions, such as pruritus, edema mouth, ear pruritus, throat irritation, and sneezing. We conclude that Grazax is efficacious and safe for treatment of rhino-conjunctivitis due to grass pollen allergy. Keywords: sublingual immonotherapy, grass pollen allergy, rhinoconjunctivitis, immunotherapy, tablet

Dynamic Stability and Thermodynamic Characterization in an Enzymatic Reaction at the Single Molecule Level
Moisés Santillán
Quantitative Biology , 2010, DOI: 10.1016/j.physa.2011.05.032
Abstract: In this work we study, at the single molecular level, the thermodynamic and dynamic characteristics of an enzymatic reaction comprising a rate limiting step. We investigate how the stability of the enzyme-state stationary probability distribution, the reaction velocity, and its efficiency of energy conversion depend on the system parameters. We employ in this study a recently introduced formalism for performing a multiscale thermodynamic analysis in continuous-time discrete-state stochastic systems.
El silbo gomero. Tradición viva de la cultura canaria y Patrimonio de la Humanidad
Plasencia Martín, Moisés
PASOS : Revista de Turismo y Patrimonio Cultural , 2007,
Abstract: The Silbo Gomero is a substitute, a contracted form, spontaneous and a non-conventional language. It is able to transmit and to interchange a limitless range of messages over long distances by means of whistles, being reproduced by the sonorous characteristics of a spoken language. At the present time this primary language is the Spanish spoken in the Canary Islands. Government of Canary has recently implemented a large number of activities which started with the intention to show the Silbo Gomero as an artistic source and to encourage scientific research on this whistled language. One of the most significant measures taken by General Direction for Cooperation and Cultural Patrimony has to do with a proposal to UNESCO in order to consider the Silbo Gomero as a Master Piece of the Oral and Intangible World Heritage

An explicit quasiplatonic curve with field of moduli $\mathbb Q(\sqrt[3]{2})$
Moisés Herradón Cueto
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We give an example of a regular dessin d'enfant with field of moduli $\mathbb Q(\sqrt[3]{2})$, thus providing an explicit example of a regular dessin d'enfant with non-abelian field of moduli, answering a question in [1]. We also prove that the underlying curve has non-abelian field of moduli. In the last section, we note that two examples in previous literature can be used to find examples of regular dessins d'enfants with non-abelian field of moduli. The main result is explained in further detail in the first author's master's thesis [7].
Oxidation of Benzoin Catalyzed by Oxovanadium(IV) Schiff Base Complexes

Chemistry Central Journal , 2013, DOI: 10.1186/1752-153x-7-3
Abstract: In recent years, vanadium complexes have attracted much attention for their potential utility as catalysts for various types of reactions.Active and selective catalytic systems of new unsymmetrical oxovanadium(IV) Schiff base complexes for the oxidation of benzoin is reported. The Schiff base ligands are derived between 2-aminoethanol and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde (H2L1) or 3-ethoxy salicylaldehyde (H2L3); and 2-aminophenol and 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde (H2L2) or 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde (H2L4). The unsymmetrical Schiff bases behave as tridentate dibasic ONO donor ligands. Reaction of these Schiff base ligands with oxovanadyl sulphate afforded the mononuclear oxovanadium(IV) complexes (VIVOLx.H2O), which are characterized by various physico-chemical techniques. The catalytic oxidation activities of these complexes for benzoin were evaluated using H2O2 as an oxidant. The best reaction conditions are obtained by considering the effect of solvent, reaction time and temperature. Under the optimized reaction conditions, VOL4 catalyst showed high conversion (>99 %) with excellent selectivity to benzil (~100 %) in a shorter reaction time compared to the other catalysts considered.Four tridentate ONO type Schiff base ligands were synthesized. Complexation of these ligands with vanadyl(IV) sulphate leads to the formation of new oxovanadium(IV) complexes of type VIVOL.H2O.Elemental analyses and spectral data of the free ligands and their oxovanadium(IV) complexes were found to be in good agreement with their structures, indicating high purity of all the compounds.Oxovanadium complexes were screened for the oxidation of benzoin to benzil using H2O2 as oxidant. The effect of time, solvent and temperature were optimized to obtain maximum yield. The catalytic activity results demonstrate that these catalytic systems are both highly active and selective for the oxidation of benzoin under mild reaction conditions.
