Psicologia USP , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-65642010000100010
Abstract: the first schizophrenia concepts contemplated unspecific definitions regarding the schizophrenic disorder. only in 1980 crow proposed the most well known classification concerning this disorder: the dycotomizationin subtypes i and ii or positive/negative, with symptoms of the positive syndrome presenting as hallucinations and delirium, and of the negative syndrome presenting as emotional blunting and poverty of speech. even though pharmacotherapy has presented advances in the treatment of this disease, psychotherapy is indicated to revert the social and interpersonal damages that this disorder causes. the aim of this study is to report a behavioral intervention, in a psychosocial attention center, in a 19 year-old patient, with the use of social ability training (sat) as a possibility in schizophrenia treatment. this procedure contributed to reduce the disease stereotype for this young woman, since it amplified her social rapport and allowed for advances in the psychological, social and vocational spheres.

Calais, Sandra Leal;Pacheco, Elisabeth M. de Camargo;

Abstract: this research characterized a psychology study course within a public university, by analyzing official course plans (1999), applicable to discipline and probation programs. the analysis revealed that in 4140 hours, 15.2% are connected domain disciplines, 32.5% basic disciplines, 25.4% specific disciplines, 7.2% pedagogical disciplines and 19.6% supervised probation programs. within basic single-theory disciplines, over multi-theory disciplines, 44% adopted a behaviorist approach, 19% adopted a psychosocial approach, 12.5% adopted an ethnological approach, 12.5% adopted a biological approach, 6% adopted a piagetian approach and 6% adopted the vital cycle theory; therefore the multi-theoretical approach would be the wiser choice. almost all disciplines of the connected domain type had psychology-related contents, which suggests the studies concern with the interrelation of the various disciplines. as far as the probation programs are concerned, the predominance of uni-theoretical approach suggests coherence in the advanced years of the studies.

Abstract: this study had the objective of evaluating and correlating the levels of work stress vulnerability and family support perception in doormen workers. 100 doormen of a medium sized, service provider company took part. a characterization questionnaire, the scale of vulnerability to the stress at work (event), and the inventory of perception of family support (ipsf) were used. the age average of the participants was 37,8 years old, who worked in the company around four years, and as doormen, an average of five years. the results showed an average score that was obtained in measuring general stress of event, suggesting that few stress factors were indicated on this doormen group. the ipsf also presented an average score, indicating that most of the participants have the perception of good family support. the analysis showed negative correlations between work stress vulnerability and family support, but statistically significant.

Abstract: background: speech perception of elderly, in silence and in the presence of background noise. aim: to characterize and compare the hearing abilities of elderly in a monaural speech perception test, in the presence and absence of background noise (speech discrimination test - sdt and speech perception in noise - spin). method: participants of this study were 55 subjects of both genders, 60 years old or above, distributed in two groups: control group (cg), constituted by elders with no hearing loss and study group (sg), constituted by elders with symmetrical sensorineural hearing loss. the spin test was used, initially with the presentation of a word list in silence and later in the presence of speech noise. results: no difference was observed between genders in the sdt and the spin test. correlation with age was observed only in the sdt for sg. a significant difference was observed when comparing the performance of the groups in the sdt and spin test. regarding the presence of substitutions in the articulation of words, it was observed that it occurred in both groups and was more frequent in spin test, especially for the sg. conclusion: the presence of the noise during the production of speech sounds is disadvantageous for elders, independently of the presence of hearing loss, but having a higher impact for those with hearing loss problems.

Abstract: purpose: to compare the sound localization ability of 40 preschool children with their parents' answers. the questionnaire answered by the parents investigated otitis media (om) episodes and symptoms that indicated the audiological and auditory processing disabilities. methods: after applying and analyzing the questionnaire's answers, two groups were formed: og (with om) and cg (control group). each group with 20 preschool children, of both genders, was submitted to the sound localization test in five directions (according to pereira, 1993). results: comparison between og and cg did not reveal statistically significant difference (p=1.0000). conclusion: om episodes during first infancy did not influence the sound localization ability in this preschool children study. although both used evaluation instruments (questionnaire and sound localization test) are cheap and easy to apply they are not sufficient to differ both tested groups.
