Abstract: at the present moment the definition of thermic comfort conditions is a developing theme in the international community, although this area of knowledge is incipient in portugal. nowadays, this topic is considered critical to the welfare, health and productivity of occupants of buildings. this study was based on the hypothesis that a model of thermic comfort could be applied to the job of clerk in a car park in lisbon or if the model of subjective analysis would be more suitable for areas already occupied. on the other hand, we aimed to assess whether there are significant differences in the application of both models during summer and winter, as well as analyze possible correlations between a number a variables. based on a bibliographic reviews, we created a questionnaire for subjective evaluation of thermic comfort and support for variables in the prediction model of comfort. we also developed an observation form to collect variable architectural characteristics and special technical facilities. the research was conducted during two field campaigns between 2009 and 2010. it was applied to fifty-three workers (whole sample) in eleven parks (the same in two different seasons: summer and winter). we made collections of environmental variables continuously, covering all the working shifts. the results validate the prediction model of comfort but with low correlation, especially in winter. we concluded the subjective rating scales provide reliable and comparable data on the subjective aspects of thermic comfort. after analyzing the data, we observed that there is acceptability and tolerance from the workers, regarding the thermic environment of their workplace. on the other hand, there are the ones who are unsatisfied by the prediction model of comfort which shows a thermic environment unsuitable to their activities. the results of the environmental variables were not within the legal values. this happened with temperature and humidity values such as the correlation be

Revista de Ciências Agrárias , 2008,
Abstract: in the azores the production of sugar beet for industrial uses is exclusive of the island of s. miguel where along the last century it has occupied areas up to 300 meters and slopes inferior to 7 %. the used area varied between 3000 hectares in the sixties and 200 hectares at present. the productivity is variable being situated between 20 and 90 tons per hectare. in the azores the sinaga is responsible for the transformation and distribution of the products of the sugar beet. using a linear programming model to explain the behaviour of farmers in the azores it was possible to conclude that the price of sugar beet influences the quantity produced of beetroot while the price of the milk has a reduced influence; and that the biggest effect in the increase of production is got by the increase of cultivable area and with technical support.

Revista Contabilidade & Finan?as , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-70772003000400005
Abstract: this article presents the results of a comparative study about one form of business combination, defined both by the international and brazilian accounting standards. the research compares the main pronouncements and accounting standards - issued by international and brazilian accounting boards - related to business combination in accordance with the purchase method. the study also includes a practical case for this form of business combination, based on the international and brazilian accounting standards. finally, the study shows that brazilian accounting boards do not issue any explicit pronouncement about business combinations (purchase method) and that these forms of business association are practiced by brazilian companies and are regulated by brazilian laws. the study also demonstrates that brazilian companies carry out business combinations through the purchase method in the same way as defined by international accounting standards.

Abstract: in the azores, dairy farming is the dominant activity of the primary sector, being forestry the remaining activity mainly dominated by cryptomeria japonica and eucalyptus globulus. these two species are those that present greater economic interest, being cryptomeria the most exploited in the region. the aim of this paper is to analyze the competitiveness of the forest activity regarding dairy farming, taking into account soil and climatic conditions, different technological alternatives and market and regulatory environment. we develop and apply a linear programming model with 123 variables and 77 restrictions. the purpose is to include 10 different types of soil and climatic condiditions, and 3 different management types of forests. the model is calibrated with statistic analysis for wage values, in order to minimize the error between actual and simulated land use. conflicts between forest activity and dairy farming are mapped and analyzed. we conclude that a reduction of 4% of the milk gross margin can lead to an increase of more than 50% in forest land use.
