The NAIRU, unemployment and the rate of inflation in Brazil
Lima, Elcyon Caiado Rocha;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402003000400011
Abstract: this paper estimates the brazilian nairu (nonaccelerating inflation rate of unemployment) and investigates several empirical questions: the stability of coefficients of the brazilian price phillips curve, the behavior of the nairu along time, and error bands for the nairu. this article innovates, with respect to previous research work done for brazil, because it estimates error bands for the nairu and adopts econometric models that, in our judgment, deal more adequately with the still recent instability of the brazilian economy. we estimate two different state-space models: one with a time-varying nairu and another in which the nairu is changing over time according to a hidden markov chain specification. the study presents some new evidence on several questions. it shows that while the slope of the brazilian price phillips curve is stable the nairu has not been stable. it concludes that there is a statistically significant relationship, with correct sign, between deviations of unemployment from the nairu and inflation. it also shows that, after the second semester of 1995, there is no significant evidence that the nairu has been different from the observed unemployment rate.

Abstract: Using tools and techniques from geometric control theory, namely Hermann-Nagano theorem, we prove controllability result for a mechanical system consisting of a planar double inverted pendulum fixed to a wheeled cart that can move linearly along a horizontal track.
Endothelial progenitor cells and integrins: adhesive needs
Francisco Caiado, Sérgio Dias
Fibrogenesis & Tissue Repair , 2012, DOI: 10.1186/1755-1536-5-4
Abstract: The cardiovascular system is the first functional organ system to develop in the vertebrate embryo and is required for embryonic survival to regulate multiple homeostatic functions in the developing embryo [1]. New blood vessel formation (neovascularization) is an essential mechanism determining the formation, but also the maintenance, of the cardiovascular system. It is thought to depend mainly on two processes, angiogenesis and vasculogenesis.Angiogenesis is the process by which new vessels are formed by the activation, proliferation and migration of endothelial cells (ECs). Vasculogenesis is defined as the process by which new vessels are generated, by the migration and differentiation of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 positive (VEGFR-2+) mesodermal precursors, termed angioblasts and/or hemangioblasts, into ECs that coalesce to form a primary vascular plexus during embryonic development [2].The existence of an equivalent process during adulthood - postnatal vasculogenesis - has been intriguing vascular and hematologic researchers since the early 20th century, when the first studies describing blood vessel formation from peripheral blood (PB) and bone-marrow (BM) mononuclear cells were published. These studies suggested the existence of a population of cells in the PB and/or BM capable of generating ECs when cultured under specific conditions [3-5]. However, it was only in 1997 that Asahara et al. [6] isolated and characterized CD34+ or VEGFR-2+ cell populations for the first time, derived from PB capable of differentiating into ECs in vitro when plated on fibronectin (FN) and exposed to angiogenic growth factor stimuli, namely vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Accordingly, using an in vivo animal model of hind limb ischemia, these authors showed that CD34+ and VEGFR-2+ cells were incorporated into newly formed vessels and acquired the expression of EC antigens. These cells where thus termed endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) [6]. In accor

Revista Educa??o Especial , 2009, DOI: 10.5902/1984686x813
Caiado, Ana Paula Sthel;Rossetti, Claudia Broetto;
Psicologia Escolar e Educacional , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-85572009000100010
Abstract: in this study we explore the use of rule games in school as a strategy to ease the development of cooperative relationships. according to the psychogenetic approaches, rule games allow exchanges among equals based on reciprocity, favoring cooperation. we then analyzed the routine of two schools, considering what was provided before the games and the cooperative tendencies of the students. the first stage of data collect we used an interview guide for the pedagogic professionals and an observation protocol. these instruments were important to the characterization of schools related to the use of rule games. in a second phase we investigated aspects related to learner’s cooperative trend. the data were systematized in a descriptive way. the results demonstrated that the higher presence of rule games in context of constructive school was followed by a higher cooperative performance of its learners.

On stability and stabilization of elastic systems by time-variant feedback
M. I. Caiado,A. V. Sarychev
Mathematics , 2005,
Abstract: We study a class of elastic systems described by a (hyperbolic) partial differential equation. Our working example is the equation of a vibrating string subject to linear disturbance. The main goal is to establish conditions for stabilization and asymptotic stabilization by applying a fast oscillating control to the string. In the first situation studied we assume that system is subject to a damping force; next we consider the system without damping. We extend the tools of high-order averaging and of chronological calculus for studying stability of this distributed parameter system.
Impacts of the U.S. subsidy to soybeans on World prices, production and exports
Brand?o, Ant?nio Salazar P.;Lima, Elcyon Caiado Rocha;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032006000400002
Abstract: this paper specifies and estimates an econometric model of the soybean market (grain, oil and meal) to assess the effects of u.s. domestic support to soybeans on world soybean prices, production and exports. the model divides the world into five regions (modules): argentina, brazil, the european union, the united states (us) and the rest of the world (row). there are interactions between the modules through the international prices and the net exports of each soybean product. the international prices of grain, oil and meal are endogenous and are determined equating net exports of the first four modules (argentina, brazil, european union and the u.s.) to net imports of the row. the analysis is conducted eliminating the u.s. domestic support to soybeans and simulating the impacts on the variables of interest. the simulations show a significant impact of the us subsidy to soybeans on world prices and net exports of the four selected regions.
