Communist heritage tourism and red tourism: concepts, development and problems
COSMIN CIPRIAN CARABA
Cinq Continents , 2011,
Abstract: The second part of the 20th century has been marked by thecompetition between capitalism and communism. The “Autumn of Nations”put an end to the Eastern Bloc, but each former communist country inCentral and Eastern Europe still possesses heritage sites reminding of the communist period. These heritage sites are turning into major tourist attractions, being sought by western tourists. Halfway around the world the Chinese Communist Party is trying to develop Red Tourism, a specific type of cultural tourism, based on heritage sites of the Chinese communist revolution. While the two tourism types use communist heritage as primary resource there are several differences between them. The study compares European communist heritage tourism with Chinese “Red Tourism”, analyzing their emergence, development and the problems they face, especially regarding heritage interpretation. This paper will try to provide a theoretical base for studying communist heritage tourism in former communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
RUSSIA AND ITS PIPELINE WEAPON

Annals of the University of Oradea : Economic Science , 2010,
Abstract: In this paper we intend to present the new power which is given to Russia upon EU due to her great natural resources and due to her control upon pipelines. Now Moscow can exert influence upon countries in Europe not through its revolutionary zeal and its tanks and army, but through its resources. And she knows how to use them and how make the EU dependent on her will: this is a new geopolitics, a 21-th century geopolitics, which is centered upon the control of gas pipelines in Central Asian states and upon EU states great dependence on Russian pipeline system.
Bizarre Parosteal Osteochondromatous Proliferation of the Skull in a Young Male  [PDF]

Open Journal of Radiology (OJRad) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojrad.2013.33022
Abstract:

Bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP), as defined by Nora and colleagues in 1983 (also called Nora lesion), is a rare lesion. About 160 cases of BPOP have been presented in the literature to date. The lesion is an exophytic outgrowth from the cortical surface consisting of bone, cartilage and fibrous tissue. These types of lesions have been reported mostly in the hands and feet. Localization at the level of the skull is extremely rare. We report a case of a young man with multiple Nora’s lesions with atypical localization in the skull and mandible.

Testing Business Cycles Asymmetry in Central and Eastern European Countries  [PDF]
Viorica Chirila, Ciprian Chirila
Modern Economy (ME) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/me.2012.36091
Abstract: The idea of business cycles asymmetry is not new in economic theory. According to business cycles asymmetry, a country’s economy behaves differently during economic growth periods as compared to economic recession periods. The results achieved by business cycles asymmetry testing are far from unanimous: some are positive, others are negative. Business cycles asymmetry has major econometric implications: business cycles cannot be modeled using linear models. This paper aims to test business cycles asymmetry in Central and Eastern European Countries, where few business cycles analyses, and especially business cycles asymmetry researches, have been conducted. The industrial production index was considered when testing business cycles asymmetry. We estimated business cycles using the Hodrick-Prescott filter and Mills’ test of asymmetry. Mira’s test was also employed to test results reliability. According to our results, business cycles in Central and Eastern European countries are not asymmetric.
"Sia funzion la rappresentazione". Carlo Lodoli and the Crisis of Architecture
Ungureanu, Cosmin
RIHA Journal , 2011,
Abstract: Similarly with the progressive turn from magic to sciences, architecture underwent a slow transformation starting with the last decades of the 17th century. Inevitably, the increase in rationality provoked the loss of the mythical component that still infused the Early Modern architectural theory. Carlo Lodoli's thought plays an important part in this process, as it carries forth the questioning of the authority of ancient knowledge, practice and aesthetics, while emphasizing the ethical function of architecture. This paper is an attempt to see Lodoli's theory through the lens of the coeval scientific achievements, while presenting him as an actor of the architectural crisis at the end of classical modernity.
Transaction Costs and Economic Performance: An Institutional Approach
Cosmin MARINESCU
Economia : Seria Management , 2012,
Abstract: The institutional arrangements, such as the property private order, market, law and other social institutions, governance, cannot function without certain costs. Such costs are not generally or necessarily measurable, but their identification helps understanding how the economic activity is organised and, therefore, appropriately explaining its performances. The study illustrates the fundamental theoretical research on the issue of transaction costs, as reflected in the institutional analysis entitled “Transaction Costs Economics”. The inherent connection between the transaction costs and the entrepreneurial activity indicates the need to restate and extend the neoclassical approach. The argument calls up the institutional context of the property rights, which are in fact decisive for the manifestation of entrepreneurship. The restatement of the approach relates to knowing the fact that the property rights and the transaction costs influence the entrepreneurial activity and, therefore, the overall economic performances.
Family and childcare support public expenditures and short-term fertility dynamics

Panoeconomicus , 2013, DOI: 10.2298/pan1303347e
Abstract: In a period of very low fertility, effective family and childcare support policy measures are needed. From a wide range of instruments available to government intervention, we focus on public expenditures effects on short-term fertility. Using a sample of 28 European countries in a panel framework, we found that there is a small positive elasticity of crude birth rate to cash benefits related to childbirth and childrearing provided through social security system. Different public services provided to ease the burden of parents and all other benefits in kind, means or non-means tested, are found to be insignificant. These results are robust to alternative methods of estimation. Controlling for country heterogeneity by religion and by culture, some particularly interesting differences in birth rate determinants were highlighted as well.
INFLATION AND COMPETITIVENESS, A VAR MODELLING APPROACH
Cosmin FRATOSTITEANU
Management & Marketing , 2010,
Abstract: VAR modeling in inflation forecasting has been widely used, and rathersuccessful, even if there have been several critiques of its exactness oraccuracy. This paper is structured into two sections. The first oneaccomplishes a general presentation of VAR modeling in forecastinginflation, and the second is focused on the results of this econometricapproach for inflation in Romania. Even if we considered methodologiescontaining inflation measured using CPI, CORE1 and CORE2, testing willonly be performed for the CPI Inflation.
