Abstract: to evaluate the short period climatic variations impact over amazonic mangrove ecosystem, studies were carried out on the northeast coast of para state. sediments, surficial and interstitial waters were collected and examinated throughout salinity, ph and eh (mv) measurements; mineralogical determination using x-ray diffraction and electronic microscopy. chemical analysis of dissolved sulfides, sulfate and chloride, among others were made in samples collected seasonally, under spring and neap tides conditions. the seasonal chloride variations in the interstitial waters shows 20 g/l during the dry season and less of 10 g/l in the season; the concentration in surficial are higher at neap tides (rainy season) and spring tide (dry season). the dissolved sulfides were found only at 10 cm, indicating sediment exposure to the atmospheric oxygen advectives fluxes. the dissolved iron rates increases between 0-10 cm and the ph tends to neutrality. the saturation of interstitial waters at dry season is indicated by evaporitic minerals: gypsum and halite. the pluviometric variations are responsible by gradual changes in the nutrient and physical chemical properties of surficial and interstitial waters, into the saline equilibrium control at coastal waters, in the salinization and desalinization of sediments and the distribution of mangrove vegetation at the estuary. the prolonged exposure of sediments during the dry season and the morphological characteristics contribute to the total or partial oxidation of surficial sediments, modifying the mineralogy of sediments and the physical chemical characteristics of interstitial waters.

Abstract: purpose: verify, from a morphologic and tensional view point, the effect of the 10% aqueous extract of aroeira-do-sert?o on the colonic anastomosis, during the occurrence of 10% acetic acid induced colitis, in wistar rats. methods: there were used 48 wistar rats, distributed in two groups. all animals were subjected to induction of colitis by aqueous solution of 10% acetic acid. twenty-four hours later, the animals were subjected to laparotomy, transverse total colotomy and end-to-end anastomosis with 5-0 polypropylene. group a (vehicle), animals treated with carboxymethylcellulose based vehicle. group b (aroeira), animals treated with 10% aroeira aqueous extract. both treatments were by means of enema. groups a and b were distributed in subgroups a3, a7, a14 and a21; b3, b7, b14 and b21, according to the foreseen euthanasia date (days 3, 7, 14 and 21). on these dates, the animals were relaparotomized, the colonic segment containing the anastomosis was ressected, subjected to the pressure test and then to the histological analysis. for the morphologic study, the slides were dyed with hematoxilin-eosine and the healing status was evaluated based on a score chart that ranked from 0 to 16. the higher the score, the better the healing. results: on the evaluation of the morphologic study, which quantifies the evolution and degree of healing, as a final result of the healing process, the group aroeira was superior to the group vehicle (p<0,05) on the twenty-first day, showing higher velocity on tissue repair that occurs by regeneration and not by fibrosis. with respect to the tension test, there was a statistically significant difference on day 3, with predominance of the group aroeira over the group vehicle (p<0,05). conclusion: the 10% aroeira-do-sert?o aqueous extract, has healing activity on the colonic anstomosis during the occurrence of 10% acetic acid induced colitis. it improves the resistance to tension on the colonic anastomosis zone on the 3rd day.

Abstract: understanding the genetic parameters of the productive characters associated to the morphological is of utmost importance in selecting promising plants for peach palm breeding aiming at heart palm production. since bactris gasipaes is a perennial palm tree with a destructive production character, the repeatability coefficient is a desirable strategy to apply. thus, the repeatability coefficient was estimated among eight morphological characters and eight heart of palm production characters, using peach palm from the embrapa eastern amazon's germ plasm collection. sixty-five plants were evaluated with different number of stems per plant. repeatability coefficient, minimum number of stems, and determination coefficients were obtained by means of variance analysis against a variation factor with a variable number of observations. four morphological characters presented repeatability coefficients ranging from 0.5317 to 0.6716, showing regularity in plant behavior from one measurement to the other. however, only leaf raquis length showed a number of measurements necessary to allow predictions with 95% confidence. all the productive characters showed low repeatability scope (0,1030 to 0,2202), indicating irregularities in plant superiority, and also showing high measurement numbers. therefore, leaf raquis length may be used in the selection of peach palm for heart of palm production.
