Detecting Periodicity Associated with the Alpha-Helix Structure Using Fourier Transform  [PDF]

Abstract: Alpha helix is a common type of secondary structure in the protein structure that consists of repeating helical turns. Patterns in the protein sequences that cause this repetitive pattern in the structure have long been sought. We used the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) to detect the periodicity signals correlated to the helical structure. We studied the distribution of multiple properties along the protein sequence, and found a property that showed strong periodicity correlated with the helical structure. Using a short-time Fourier transform (STFT) method, we investigated the amplitude of the periodical signals at each amino acid position. The results show that residues in the helix structure tend to display higher amplitudes than residues outside of the helices. This tendency is dramatically strengthen when sequence profiles obtained from multiple alignment were used to detect the periodicity. A simple method that predicted helices based on the amplitude yielded overall true positive rate (TPR) of 63%, 49% sensitivity, 72% specificity, and 0.22 Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC). The performance seemed to depend on the length of helices that the proteins had.

Abstract: The mixed linear programming model is commonly recognized to be an effective means for searching optimal reservoir operation policy in water resources system. In this paper a multi-objective mixed integer linear programming model is set up to obtain the optimal operation policy of multi-reservoir water supply system during drought, which is able to consider the operation rule of reservoir-group system within longer-term successive drought periods, according to the basic connotation of indexes expressing the water-supply risk of reservoir during drought, that is, reliability, resilience and vulnerability of reservoir water supply, and mathematical programming principles. The model-solving procedures, particularly, the decomposition-adjustment algorithm, are proposed based on characteristics of the model structure. The principle of model-solving technique is to decompose the complex system into several smaller sub-systems on which some ease-solving mathematical models may be established. The objective of this optimization model aims at maximizing the reliability of water supply and minimizing the maximum water-shortage of single time-period within water- supply system during drought. The multi-objective mixed integer linear programming model and proposed solving procedures are applied to a case study of reservoir-group water-supply system in Huanghe-Huaihe River Basin, China. The desired water-shortage distribution within the system operation term and the maximum shortage of single time-period are achieved. The results of case study verifies that the lighter water-shortage distributed evenly among several time-periods can avoid the calamities resulted from severe water shortage concentrated on a few time-periods during drought.

Abstract: Based on ServiceBSP model, a hierarchical resource load balancing algorithm with Multi-Agent is put forward in this paper which achieves the goal of dynamic load balancing and favorable Fault-tolerant. The algorithm calculates the load value according to the attributes of resource and scheduling tasks relies on the load value, while updating the load information dynamically depending on Multi-Agent. The method avoids frequent communications on load information. Furthermore, the paper introduces the function of agents, relations and communications among agents in details. Finally, by comparing response time and distribution of load using proposed method with other available methods such as without no load balancing and load balancing only giving regards to CPU, the experimental simulation shows that the load balancing based on Multi-Agent possesses superior performance on response time and load balancing.

IEC61850 is the most promising standard for design of power utility communication networks and automation systems. On the other hand multi-agent systems are attracting growing interest for different applications of power engineering. This paper presents the possibility that IEC61850 could be applied to build intelligent agents for power engineering applications. The paper investigates the correlation between IEC61850 and multi-agents and presents IEC61850 service tracking as a scenario. First, briefly introduces reporting and service tracking; then, investigates agents, intelligent agents and the characteristics of intelligent agents; last, analyzes the characteristics of service tracking and compares it with intelligent agents. And analysis shows that IEC61850 could be applied to build intelligent agents, which represents a significant step forward for MAS to apply in power engineering.

Design of Off-grid Home Photovoltaic Power System in Shaanxi Region  [PDF]

Abstract: Shaanxi province has three land forms which are Shaanxi’s northern plateau, Guanzhong plain and Qinba mountain land in the south of Shaanxi province. So the climate type is also divided into three types and the solar energy resources distribution has a big gap between different regions. PV modules, as the core component of off-grid home photovoltaic power system, their output power are mainly influenced by sun radiation, array tile angle, temperature and so on. Based on the reasons above, in order to apply off-grid home photovoltaic power system in Shaanxi region, this paper designs different systems with different configuration, and makes the performance prediction. The results show that the capacity of PV modules reaches to the largest in Shaanxi northern region, reach minimum in Shaanxi southern region and the output power in the winter is less than in the summer and reach minimum in the spring and autumn. In light of the characteristics above, this research select different type and configuration in different areas systematically, and the performance analysis shows that the configuration can meet the basic life demand of power to the people whose power is not available.

Abstract: A new tetradentate unsymmetrical Schiff base, C20H15BrN2O2, has been synthesized from 4-bromo-o-phenylenediamine and salicylaldehyde in refluxing ethanol. The dihedral angles between the two hydroxyphenyl rings and the bromo-o-phenylenediiminatoin group are 68.6 (1) and 8.7 (1)°; the dihedral angle between the two hydroxyphenyl rings is 70.3 (1)°. There are two relatively strong intramolecular of O—H...N hydrogen bonds.
Affect Factor Analysis of the Chinese Government Administrative Costs -- Empirical Analysis Based on the Data from 1978 to 2010

Abstract: At present our government administration cost has increased year by year, its growth far beyond the growth of economic and financial. This paper makes use of SPSS software, using multiple regression analysis, conduct research on the influence factors of the governmental administractive costs, based on statistical data between 1978-2010, and make nation as a research sample. The results show: the financial revenue and expenditure level, the level of economic development, the scale of the government are the main factors affecting growth of government administrative costs, with which is positive correlation. Conclusion: The key to lower government administrative costs is to reduce administrative management fee share in the government revenue and expenditures, shrinking government scale, transforming the government functions. Abstract: A method of robust speech endpoint detection in airplane cockpit voice background is presented. Based on the analysis of background noise character, a complex Laplacian distribution model directly aiming at noisy speech is established. Then the likelihood ratio test based on binary hypothesis test is carried out. The decision criterion of conventional maximum a posterior incorporating the inter-frame correlation leads to two separate thresholds. Speech endpoint detection decision is finally made depend on the previous frame and the observed spectrum, and the speech endpoint is searched based on the decision. Compared with the typical algorithms, the proposed method operates robust in the airplane cockpit voice background.
