Analysis of Studies from 2000-2010 in Real Option Theory and Application to OM  [PDF]

Abstract: Traditional project investment methods, such as the discounted cash flow (DCF) with a fixed static plan, are no longer sufficient to assist the corporate strategies of seizing opportunities and profitability. The option pricing formula includes a theoretical framework for pricing financial options, assuming that the risk in a financial hedged position is zero, if the option is adjusted continuously in a short position. Hence, the real options revolution arose in response to the dissatisfaction of corporation practitioners with traditional capital budgeting techniques, such as standard discount cash flow. This paper analyzes relevant articles from the “Journal of Operations Management” and “Management Sciences” as related to real options theory in the field of operations management. The goal of this study is to review and identify the gaps in application to real option theory in their studies. Finally, this paper provides suggestions for future researchers.
The Impact Mechanism of Consumer-generated Comments of Shopping Sites on Consumer Trust

Abstract: The author aims at studying the influence of consumer-generated comments of the shopping sites on consumer trust. The research divides consumer-generated comments into four types: service comments, product and price comments, self-display comments and after-action comments. With the survey result of 166 college students, the author finds that online shoppers’ trust are influenced by consumer-generated comments of the shopping websites significantly. The data is analyzed by SPSS 15.0 and LISREL 8.8. The results show that product and price comments, the self-display comments, and after-sale action comments influence consumer trust to shopping sites remarkably.

Abstract: The author aims at studying the influence of comments and recommendation on online shopping behaviours. With 285 study subjects, the author used experimental research design to study comments and recommendation system on online shopping experience, online shopping satisfaction, online shopping intention and items chosen. The data is analyzed by SPSS 15.0 and LISREL 8.8. The results show that comments and recommendation influence online shopping experience, online shopping satisfaction and online shopping intention directly. Online shopping experience and online shopping satisfaction influence online shopping intention significantly. There is remarkable positive relation between online shopping intention and items chosen.
Personality's Influence on the Relationship between Online Word-of-mouth and Consumers' Trust in Shopping Website

Abstract: This paper did a survey on 162 college students, with an aim to find out the role of consumers’ personality in their trust in the website as far as the online word-of-mouth is concerned. All the data collected are analyzed by SPSS 15.0 and LISREL. It shows that there is a significant difference between the introverted consumers and the extroverted consumers viewing their attitude towards online word-of-mouth. When the online word-of-mouth is affecting the consumers’ trust in shopping websites, the introverted and extroverted influence exist difference.

Abstract: The oral microbiome is one of most diversity habitat in the human body and they are closely related with oral health and disease. As the technique developing,, high throughput sequencing has become a popular approach applied for oral microbial analysis. Oral bacterial profiles have been studied to explore the relationship between microbial diversity and oral diseases such as caries and periodontal disease. This review describes the application of high-throughput sequencing for characterization of oral microbiota and analyzing the changes of the microbiome in the states of health or disease. Deep understanding the knowledge of microbiota will pave the way for more effective prevent dentistry and contribute to the development of personalized dental medicine.
Track Processing Approach for Bearing-Only Target Tracking

Abstract: This paper mainly studies angle-measurement based track processing approach to overcome the existing problems in the applications of traditional approaches for bearing-only target locating and tracking system. First, this paper gives suited data association algorithms including track initiation and point-track association. Moreover, a new tracking filtering association gate method is presented through analysis of the target motion characteristics in polar coordinates for improving bearing-only measurement confirming efficiency of real target and limiting false track overextension with the dense clutter. Then, by analyzing the feasibility of using multi-model technology, the IMM is adopt as filtering algorithm to solve existing problem in bearing-only tracking for complicated target motion in two dimensional angle plane. As the results, the two dimensional bearing-only tracking accuracy of real target is improved and false tracking is greatly limited. Moreover, computation cost of IMM is analyzed in view of the real-time demand of bearing-only tracking. Finally, this paper gives some concrete summary of multi-model choosing principle. The application of the proposed approach in a simulation system proves its effectiveness and practicability.
Data Association Approach for Two Dimensional Tracking Based on Bearing-Only Measurements in Clutter Environment

Abstract: This paper mainly studies angle-measurement based data association algorithm to overcome the existing problems in the applications of traditional association approaches for bearing-only target locating and tracking system. First, this paper proposes a fast track initiation approach for the system using a single passive sensor. In this approach, the rules of screening out threatening targets are set by analyzing the characteristics of target motion in two dimensional bearing-only coordinates. And the track initiation of threatening targets is implemented in the shortest time based on a modified heuristic algorithm using these rules. Then, other target tracks are initialized based on a logic-based algorithm in two dimensional bearing-only coordinates as a supplement. At last, by deeply studying different point-track association algorithms and comparing the association effect between JPDA and NNDA in bearingonly coordinate, suitable angle-measurement based association algorithm is presented. As the results, the confirming efficiency of the bearing-only measurements is improved and false tracking with the dense clutter is limited. The application of this algorithm has effectively resolved the track association problem of the bearing-only tracking using a single passive sensor. The application of the proposed approach in a simulation system proves its effectiveness and practicability.

Abstract:

Standards of highway conservation and maintenance are improved gradually following the improvement of requirements of road service. Before obvious damage such as obvious cracking (blocktransverse, longitudinal ) and rutting emerge, inconspicuous distress (micro-cracks, polishing, pockmarked) is generated previously. These inconspicuous distresses may provide basis and criteria for pavement preventive maintenance. Currently most of preventive conservation measures are determined by experienced experts in maintenance and repair of road after site visits. Thus method is difficult in operation, and has a certain amount of instability as it is based on experience and personal knowledge. In this paper, camera and laser were used for automated high-speed acquisition images. Methods to preprocess pavement image are compared. The pretreatment method suitable for analyze micro-cracks picture is elected, an effective way to remove shadow is also proposed.

An ICME Approach for Optimizing Thin-Welded Structure Design  [PDF]

Abstract: Integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) is an emerging discipline that can speed up product development by unifying material, design, fabrication, and computational power in a virtual environment. Developing and adapting ICME in industries is a grand challenge technically and culturally. To help develop a strategy for development of this new technology area, an ICME approach was proposed and implemented in optimizing thin welded structure design. The key component in this approach is a database which includes material properties, static strength, impact strength, and failure parameters for a weld. The heat source models, microstructure model, and thermo-mechanical model involved in ICME for welding simulation were discussed. The shell elements representing method for a fusion weld were introduced in details for a butt joint, lap joint, and a Tee joint. Using one or multiple solid elements representing a spot weld in a shell model was also discussed. Database building methods for resistance spot welding and fusion welding have been developed.
