Design of the Ess RFQs and Chopping Line

Abstract: The chopping line is a critical part of the ESS linac in term of technical realisation of the choppers and preservation of the beam qualities. A new optimised design of the ESS RFQs and chopping lines is reported. The beam dynamics has been optimised with H- beam currents up to 100-mA to have safety margin with respect to the ESS goals. The first RFQ transmits almost 99.7% of the beam up to 2 MeV. The line with two choppers allows a perfect chopping between 2 bunches. The second RFQ accelerates the particles up to 5 MeV with a transmission close to 100%.

Abstract: A 5-MeV RFQ designed for a proton current up to 100-mA CW is now under construction as part of the High Intensity Proton Injector project (IPHI). Its computed transmission is greater than 99 %. The main goals of the project are to verify the accuracy of the design codes, to gain the know-how on fabrication, tuning procedures and operations, to measure the output beam characteristics in order to optimise the higher energy part of the linac, and to reach a high availability with minimum beam trips. A cold model has been built to develop the tuning procedure. The present status of the IPHI RFQ is presented.
Comparing P-stars with Observations

Abstract: P-stars are compact stars made of up and down quarks in $\beta$-equilibrium with electrons in a chromomagnetic condensate. P-stars are able to account for compact stars as well as stars with radius comparable with canonical neutron stars. We compare p-stars with different available observations. Our results indicate that p-stars are able to reproduce in a natural manner several observations from isolated and binary pulsars.

Abstract: We calculate the large scale polarization of the cosmic microwave background induced by the anisotropy of the spatial geometry of our universe. Assuming an eccentricity at decoupling of about $0.64 10^{-2}$, we find $\Delta T_{pol}/ T_0 \simeq 0.53 10^{-6}$ quite close to the average level of polarization detected by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe.

Abstract: This essay pretends to reflect about the "critic being", exploring the actual rol of the criticism, and searching how is that this criticism is changes and fitting to be funtional in a system we call reality. Then, for the purposes of this research, its necessary to differenciate between the constructive critic and non constructive critic, understanding the first one as a way or strategy that allows to mutate the current system, but one that at the end doesnt shift or create changes in the problematic origin or critic objects. And the second one, as a non proposing critic, as a descriptive report, which is considerate as a way to modify. So, constructive critic belongs and comes from nowadys society, and is in this way that system allows the critics and the critics create the possibility of a system cover mutation. Finally, to expose an example of this phenomeno, the neoliberal system would be seen under the non constructive vision as a ideology, and inside of itself as the arise of constructive critics, that suggest the Utopia's reinvidication.
Vacuum Stability for Dirac Fermions in Three Dimensions

Abstract: I investigate three dimensional abelian and non-abelian gauge theories interacting with Dirac fermions. Using a variational method I evaluate the vacuum energy density in the one-loop approximation. It turns out that the states with a constant magnetic condensate lie below the perturbative ground state only in the case of three dimensional quantum electrodynamics with massive fermions.

Abstract: We discuss the large scale polarization of the cosmic microwave background induced by the anisotropy of the spatial geometry of our universe. Assuming an eccentricity at decoupling of about $0.64 10^{-2}$, we find an average large scale polarization $\Delta T_{pol}/ T_0 = (0.5 - 1.0) 10^{-6}$. We suggest that the fortcoming polarization data at large scales from Planck will be able to discriminate between our proposal and the generally accepted reionization scenario.
On the Pulsar Emission Mechanism

Abstract: We discuss a general mechanism which allows to explain naturally both radio and high energy emission by pulsars. We also discuss the plasma distribution in the region surrounding the pulsar, the pulsar wind and the formation of jet along the magnetic axis. We suggest a plausible mechanism to generate pulsar proper motion velocities.
Light Curves of Swift Gamma Ray Bursts

Abstract: Recent observations from the Swift gamma-ray burst mission indicate that a fraction of gamma ray bursts are characterized by a canonical behaviour of the X-ray afterglows. We present an effective theory which allows us to account for X-ray light curves of both (short - long) gamma ray bursts and X-ray rich flashes. We propose that gamma ray bursts originate from massive magnetic powered pulsars.
