Cima,CIF; Freitas,RSA; Lamas,MCM; Mendes,CASL; Neves,AC; Fonseca,C;
Revista Portuguesa de Clínica Geral , 2011,
Abstract: introduction: it is necessary to know the chronic prescription, with a view towards the implement of measures to control, to prevent their complications and to optimise the available resources. the aims of that study were: to determine the proportion of adult patients chronically-medicated in the north of portugal; to characterise the consumption, as far as the type and number of medicines are concerned, and to analyse their association with age, gender, professional situation, marital status and type of family. methodology: transversal analytical study with gather of data through questionnaires. random sample of 45 doctors? patients of health centres from the north of portugal. variables studied were consumption of chronicle medication, type of medicines, number of medicines, demographic variations. used test chi-squared, a=0,05. results: consumption?s prevalence = 58,1%. average number of medicines per patient = 2,94. the most used medicines were those from the cardiovascular and nervous system groups. there was found an association between chronicle consumption and females, elder ages, jobs (retired or housekeepers) and single-element families. the average number of medicine rises with the age. there is a relation between the age and most of the studied pharmacological groups. discussion: this study allowed confirming, in a bigger population, the results in literature and reinforces the necessity of optimising the prescription of medicines.
Spatial Analysis with myGeoffice.org: The Pb Jura Lake, Switzerland, Contamination Case  [PDF]
Joao Negreiros, Ana Neves
Journal of Geoscience and Environment Protection (GEP) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/gep.2019.72007
Abstract: Protecting groundwater from lead contamination is an important public-health concern and a major national environmental issue worldwide. This article addresses myGeoffice Web Internet service for geographers, in general, and geo-statistics researchers, in particular, with the famous water contamination case at Jura lake, Switzerland (a typical rural-urban region). Based on 189 samples of lead (Pb), five key investigation steps for a scientific perspective of any pollution incident are presented: Descriptive analysis (including nearest neighborhood, G(h) and Kernel techniques), spatial autocorrelation (Moran location scatterplot and Moran I) and Ordinary Kriging (OK) interpolation. The uncertainty and cost assessments issues are exceptionally tackled with Indicator Kriging (including the conditional cumulative distribution function, Shannon local entropy, probabilistic intervals and E-type estimation) and Gaussian geo-simulation. The total lead pollution exhibited patterns of high and low levels of concentrations along the all lake, leading to the conclusion that water is unsuitable for human consumption, in general, and unsuitable for any living organism, in particular sub-areas. It is also hoped that future GIS readers will follow this approach for their spatial cases with myGeoffice.
O comunismo mágico-científico de Alves Redol
Etnográfica , 2007,
Abstract: considering ethnography?s relevance in new social realism, this article focuses the case of the writer alves redol, an emblematic personality of that literary movement. through an analysis of the making-of an ethnographic sensibility in redol, we reflect upon the communist meaning of such sensibility and the effect it had on redol?s own representations of the people and the nation. then we will confront such representations with redol romantic aspiration towards a primitive communism but also his desire for an industrial labourization of the rural life, to conclude that redol overstepped the city/country dichotomy and moved away from both urban and rural imaginary, a move that reached his maximum eloquence in the figure of mitchurin, the main-star of a vida mágica da sementinha.

Uma Comiss?o da Verdade no Brasil? Desafios e perspectivas para integrar direitos humanos e democracia
Neves, Raphael;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452012000200006
Abstract: this paper aims to evaluate the creation of the national truth commission in brazil and its effort to integrate human rights and democratic means to account past violations. first, it tries to establish a normative view according to which the amnesty law enacted in 1979 is not valid because it violates what rainer forst calls a "basic right to justification". in addition it reviews and challenges the normative foundations of the decisions of the inter-american court of human rights, which recently condemned the brazilian state. according to the court's view, the only legitimate way a country has to make violations of human rights accountable is by means of criminal justice. this perspective, the article argues, is too narrow and must include truth commissions as well.
A defesa institucional numa institui??o total: o caso de um centro de internamento de menores delinquentes
Análise Social , 2007,
Abstract: this essay is based on ethnographic work carried out over about a year in an institution for the internment and re-education of under-age delinquents - the centro educativo de santo antónio (st. anthony's educational centre). the essay analyses and discusses the linkages between institutional defence, identified as a core process in the day-to-day organization of the education centre, and the re-education process, which is an integral part of the institution's objectives. this idea of institutional defence is rooted in adolphe prins' social defence project, in weber's concept of bureaucracy and in the logic of managerialism, which is important currently not only in the sphere of juvenile law-making as in the educational sphere.
