Communication and traceability game: a way to improve requirements elicitation process teaching

Abstract: requirements elicitation process is important to guarantee the quality of software applications. in software engineering, requirements elicitation process has been taught by means of traditional methods. games have been used to improve teaching of some issues in software engineering, but elicitation has not been the center of this way of teaching. as a way to deal with problems in requirements elicitation process teaching, we create in this paper "communication and traceability game" and we summarize the results of applying this game to several groups of students.
The UNC-method: a problem-based software development method

Abstract: software engineers use development methods to guarantee on-time delivery, keeping to budget and quality in their software applications. there are two kinds of development methods: plan-driven and agile methods. both of them still have problems; these refer to resolving problems instead of thinking about them, they use informal or semi-formal artefacts and they leave consistency management to the analysts. the unc-method (a problem-based software development method) is defined in this paper. the unc-method is currently being developed in the universidad nacional de colombia; it has been used by students from the school of systems as part of their training in methodological software development during the last five years. the unc-method is a mixture of well-known artefacts (i.e. uml diagrams and graphical user interfaces) and non-traditional approaches (e.g. cause-and-effect diagram, kaos goal diagrams and pre-conceptual schemas) used in trying to overcome the aforementioned problems. a case study is also used for exemplification purposes.

Abstract: El lenguaje desempe a un papel importante en el dise o y evaluación de proyectos, especialmente cuando se trata de identificar y enunciar problemas y objetivos. Aunque no se propone formalmente, en algunos ámbitos se reconoce que existen estructuras para expresar objetivos y problemas ligados con una organización. Sin embargo, no se suele plantear una relación directa entre ellas o, si se requiere, se plantean de forma intuitiva. Esta relación es importante porque permite a los miembros de la organización plantear soluciones a los problemas que se liguen con sus objetivos estratégicos. Por ello, en este artículo se presenta una propuesta innovadora para establecer las relaciones lingüísticas entre los problemas de una organización y sus objetivos. Además se muestran algunos ejemplos.

Abstract: Los ingenieros de software emplean los métodos de desarrollo para garantizar la entrega puntual, el cumplimiento de los presu-puestos y la calidad de las aplicaciones de software. Existen dos tipos de métodos de desarrollo: los dirigidos por planes, y los á-giles. Ambos, aún presentan problemas: se refieren a la solución en lugar de pensar en el problema, usan artefactos formales o semiformales y dejan el manejo de la consistencia en manos de los analistas. En este artículo se define UNC-Method, un méto-do de desarrollo de software basado en problemas, que se viene desarrollando en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia y que se usa en la Escuela de Sistemas como parte del entrenamiento en desarrollo metodológico de software a los estudiantes de di-cha universidad durante los últimos cinco a os. UNC-Method combina artefactos tradicionales del desarrollo de software (como los diagramas de UML y las interfaces gráficas de usuario) con enfoques no tradicionales en dicha disciplina (como los diagra-mas causa-efecto, los diagramas de objetivos de KAOS y los esquemas preconceptuales) en un esfuerzo por resolver los proble-mas antes mencionados. SELECCIóN DE UN MODELO CóPULA PARA EL AJUSTE DE DATOS BIVARIADOS DEPENDIENTES

Abstract: modeling problems involving bivariate dependent data is very important in many areas, such as finance, actuary, reliability and survival analysis. in the literature, some copula models have been widely used to modelling dependent multivariate distributions, among which stands out the archimedean copula class. this paper presents a methodology to select from some archimedean copula models the one that fits the best to a dependent dataset, using goodness-of-fit plots, q-q plots and cramér-von mises goodness-of-fit test. we illustrated the methodology using simulated data and data from insurance claims. the results showed that the data insurance fits to a bivariate model based on the so called frank's copula with lognormal marginals.
SELECCIóN DE UN MODELO CóPULA PARA EL AJUSTE DE DATOS BIVARIADOS DEPENDIENTES

Abstract: El modelamiento en problemas que involucran datos bivariados dependientes es muyimportante en diversas áreas del conocimiento, tales como: finanzas, actuaría, confiabilidad y análisis de supervivencia. En la literatura, se conocen algunos modelos cópula que han sido ampliamente utilizados para modelar distribuciones multivariadas dependientes, entre los cuales se destaca la clase de cópulas Arquimedianas. En este artículo, se presenta una metodología para seleccionar entre algunos modelos cópula Arquimedianos el que mejor se ajusta a un conjunto de datos dependientes, utilizando gráficos de bondad de ajuste, gráficos cuantil cuantil (Q-Q plot) y la prueba analítica de bondad de ajuste de Cramér-von Mises. Se realizó una aplicación de la metodología con datos simulados y utilizando datos de siniestros en pólizas de seguro. Los resultados mostraron que los datos de seguros se ajustan a un modelo bivariado basado en la cópula Frank con marginales lognormales.

Abstract: trust is one of the critical success factors for organizational improvement. several authors have discussed trust models, but they are based on the characteristics of particular problems. however, in analyzing relevant literature using a state-of-the-art methodology, similarities were found that might allow generalization. this is the reason that this article provides a review of the state-of-the-art in trust on an organizational level. we also summarize the results of this review. the research goal is to establish common ground elements under the concept of trust. as future work, we plan to formulate a unified model of trust. some elements such as trustee, trustor, and trust factors are shown as results of this state-ofthe- art review.

Abstract: the traditional methodology assumes independence between competing failure modes to estimate the reliability function, but recent studies have shown that when this assumption is incorrectly assumed, usually gives pessimistic estimates. this paper intends, through a simulation study, to explore the effect caused by such a situation in the cases of two competing lognormal failures and two competing weibull failures. it is appreciated from the results that, when the dependence is ignored, there are no significant differences between the true reliability function and the estimated reliability function assuming independence.

Abstract: software engineering teaching has been traditionally worked with conventional methods like magisterial classes and practical projects. these strategies have been centered in teachers as learning sources, though they have permitted professional formation through four decades, but they apart student-centered learning strategies, like games, case studies, and simulations. in this paper we propose ?consistency game?, a way to achieve students learning from a playful experience; the game works with the concept uml (unified modeling language) diagrams consistency. uml is, nowadays, the most accepted standard for information systems modeling in software engineering.

Abstract: oo-method is an object-oriented method for automated code generation. in order to develop a software application by using oo-method, the analyst must subjectively create the diagrams included in oo-method. in this task the analyst must invest too much effort. on the other hand, pre-conceptual schemas are controlled-language-based diagrams for knowledge representation. also, pre-conceptual schemas are previous diagrams to conceptual schemas and they are designed for automatically obtaining uml diagrams. in this paper, we take advantage of pre-conceptual schemas and we propose a set of rules for obtaining oo-method diagrams from these schemas. we also exemplify the proposal with a case study
