Abstract: ten sugarcane clones obtained from crossings carried out in 1985 in camamu, state of bahia, were evaluated in a trial in the jaú region, state of s?o paulo, brazil. the trial started in february, 1991 and used a complete randomized block design with six replications. statistical analyses for cane and sugar yield (t/ha) and sugar content (pol % cane) were performed with four harvest means. data on number of stalks, stalk weight, yield decline index, fiber % cane and flowering intensity, are also shown. according to these characteristics compared to two varieties used as control, sp70-1143 and sp71-1406, the clone iac85-3229 showed good potential with possibility of inclusion in varietal management studies for other regions of the state of s?o paulo.

Abstract: sugarcane clones obtained from crosses made in 1982 in camamu, state of bahia, were evaluated in a trial carried out in a "terra roxa estruturada" at da barra mill, barra bonita, state of s?o paulo. the trial started in january, 1987, using a randomized complete block design with four replications. statistical analysis for cane and sugar yield (t/ha) and sugar content (pol % cane), were performed with four harvest means. data or number and weight of stalks, flowering intensity and fibre % cane, are presented in comparison with four control varieties: cb47-355, iac67-112, na56-79 and sp71-1406. the clones iac82-3092 and iac82-3258 showed promising results and in condition to be included in the varietal management studies for the state of s?o paulo. selection made on second harvest or two first harvests mean showed the best results.

Abstract: a number of sugarcane clones obtained in crosses made in 1980 and 1981, was tested in three locations with oxisol soils at ribeir?o preto region. the commercial varieties sp70-1143, na56-79 and iac64-257 were used as controls in trials and evaluated for agricultural and industrial traits on the average of three harvests. the best clone in the experiments was iac80-2094, which has been indicated for early harvest period with good yield and fiber content, but with heavy tasseling and susceptibility to rust. other early maturing clone was iac81-2004, which showes good fiber content and stem borer tolerance, however it does show, in natural conditions in the field, frequent symptoms of rust. thus, in spite of both clones show superior agricultural and industrial traits, these problems of diseases above mentioned do not recommend their inclusions in the varietal management for other regions in the state of s?o paulo, brazil.

Abstract: twelve iac sugar cane clones derived from crossings carried out in 1982, were evaluated from 1990 to 1994, at three sites of the ribeir?o preto/ region, in rhodic hapludox soils. experimental trials were set up using a complete randomized blocks design, with six replications per site. cane and sugar yield (t.ha-1), stalk sugar content, stalk fiber content and stalk number were estimated in all four growing seasons. iac82-2045 the clone significantly outperformed control varieties and other experimental clones regarding yield potential, revealing intermediate sugar content and being proper for mid to late season harversting. genetic parameter estimates have shown significant genotype x environment interactions, mostly for cane and sugar yield potentials.

Abstract: seven experiments were conducted on "terra-roxa-misturada" areas of the state of s?o paulo to study the effects of several fertilizer treatments on dry beans (phaseolus vulgarisl.). phosphorus increased the yields in all of the experiments, nitrogen, in five, and potassium, in none of them. the addition of a mixture containing sulfur and micro-nutrients (zn, cu, b and mo) to a npk fertilizer induced insignificant yield increases in four localities. although not significantly, liming depressed the yields in all of the experiments.

Abstract: water deficit is one of the major factors limiting the production of sugarcane, especially in areas where there is a prolonged period of water deficiency, such as the west central brazilian region. one way to overcome this problem is to cultivate resistant or tolerant varieties. an experiment was set up at the jalles machado sugar mill, located near goianésia, goiás state, brazil, to evaluate agronomic performance of several sugarcane families. a comparative analysis was carried out among the families under two irrigation regimes, one under regular environmental conditions and another under monthly irrigations during the period of water deficiency. evaluated families consisted of 25 progenies planted in a factorial design with three replications with 20 plants each. the first ratoon crop was evaluated for four yield components, stalk height, stalk diameter, stalk number and brix. by analysis of variance, stalk number and stalk height were influenced by water stress conditions during the initial growth phase, and for stalk diameter and brix, water regime had no effect on the average expression of the characters during the growth phase. the method of classification in four categories proved to be adequate. some families had high values for stalk diameter, stalk number and stalk height under water stress conditions. this study showed that it is possible to select sugarcane families under water deficit conditions associated with higher stalk diameter, stalk number and stalk height.

Abstract: four experiments were conducted in different parts of the state of s?o paulo to study the effect of some green manure species on the yield of dry beans in the fall planting period. the green manures were sown in october and cut about three months later. dry beans were sown between february 12 and march 4 of the following year. all the experimental plots received mineral fertilizer. in the average of the four experiments, the control plots produced 374 kilograms per hectare of air-dry beans. while the effect of sorghum vulgarewas practically null and those of dolichos lablabe, tephrosia candidaand cajanus cajanvaried fron +42 to +49%, that of crotalaria junceareached +85%.
