El Museo de La Plata en el avance del conocimiento geológico a fines del Siglo XIX

Abstract: the contributions of the la plata museum to the geological knowledge of argentina, began after this institution was founded in 1884, as an aftermath of the exploratory trips began by f.p. moreno in 1873. the geological studies of the la plata museum, organized by moreno, covered the andean region between puna and tierra del fuego, but with their main focus in the patagonian andes, took relevance from 1893 onwards when they became related to geographic explorations aimed at fixing the boundary between argentina and chile. as a result in about ten years the geographic and geological basis of extense and almost unknown regions were established. the study of the area between the ultima esperanza inlet and lago belgrano was mainly due to r. hauthal, who defined its general stratigraphy and published the first geological map of the cordilleran region between c. 49° 30' and 52° s. the general geological scheme north of lago buenos aires, to río negro, was established by santiago roth. the stratigraphic succession, facies and structural changes through the argentine-chilean cordillera at the latitude of lago nahuel huapi and lago lacar was studied by l. wehrli, whilst at the latitude of neuquén and mendoza is mainly due to c. burckhardt, with the contribution of r. hauthal for the region between the atuel and diamante rivers. important collections of mesozoic and cenozoic invertebrates, plants and vertebrates were made in these large areas, which were studied, respectively, by c. burckhardt, f. favre, w. paulcke, o. wilckens, f. lahille y h. ihering, by f. kurtz, and by f. p.moreno, a. mercerat, a. s. woodward, r. lydekker and f. ameghino.

Abstract: the geological contributions made by horacio harrington between 1934 y 1974 are characterized by their broad thematic range and excellence. the published works were devoted to regional geology, paleontology, stratigraphy, and to theory, teaching and outreach of the geological sciences. studies on regional geology were mainly focused, within argentina, to the sierras australes and precordilleran regions. for other countries they comprised the chilean region of antofagasta and atacama, eastern paraguay and uruguay. devoted to larger areas were his studies on morphostructural units, cambrian, ordovician, silurian, devonian, regional geology of south america, argentina, paraguay, and uruguay. studies on paleontology included detailed surveys on invertebrate systematic, biostratigraphy and paleobiogeography of trilobites and brachiopods, mainly from the paleozoic of argentina and, marginally from bolivia and colombia, and contributions to the volumes on trilobites and cnidarians of the treatise on invertebrate paleontology. harrington's contributions to theory, teaching and outreach were mainly focused in the development and foundation of basic concepts of the geosciences and to the spatial and temporal meaning and classification of geological events.

Abstract: Las colecciones de invertebrados fsiles del Museo de La Plata comenzaron en 1884, como resultado del trabajo de F. P. Moreno, C. Burmeister y R. Hauthal. En 1895 se cre la Seccin Paleontologa con S. Roth como jefe. El primer paleontlogo de invertebrados fue Carlos Burckhardt. En 1906 el Museo pas a formar parte de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata y, en 1924, luego del fallecimiento de S. Roth, Angel Cabrera fue Jefe y Profesor de Paleontologa. En 1934 Joaqun Frenguelli fue incorporado al Museo y Paleontologa fue dividida en dos divisiones, una de Vertebrados y otra de Paleozoologa Invertebrados y Paleobotnica, con A. Cabrera y J. Frenguelli, respectivamente, como jefes. Entre 1937 y 1942 Horacio J. Harrington tambin trabaj en el rea. En 1941 A. F. leanza fue Jefe de la Seccin Paleontologa Invertebrados y entre 1947 y 1948 Jefe de Divisin. Entre 1958 y 1966 la posicin de Profesor de Paleontologa Invertebrados y Paleobotnica fue sucesivamente ocupada por P. N. Stipanicic y H. H. Camacho. El 1966 el rea fue dividida y A. J. Amos fue designado Jefe de la Divisin Paleozoologa Invertebrados. A partir de 1970 las investigaciones micropaleontolgicas se hicieron importantes con la presencia de R. C. Whatley. En la dcada de 1960 recomenzaron las investigaciones en invertebrados del Mesozoico. En 1976 se comenz a implementar una estrategia de largo alcance con el objetivo de atender los temas ms relevantes sobre los invertebrados del Paleo- Meso-y Cenozoico. En los 35 aos siguientes se incorporaron a la coleccin 23.000 taxones y 200.000 ejemplares. The collection of fossil invertebrates in the La Plata Museum began in 1884, as a result of F. P. Moreno, C. Burmeister and R. Hauthal work. In 1895 was created the Paleontological Section headed by S. Roth. The first invertebrate paleontologist was Carl Burckhardt. In 1906 the museum became part of the National University of La Plata, and starting in 1924, after Roth's death, Angel Cabrera became Head and Professor of Paleontology. In 1934 Joaqun Frenguelli was incorporated to the museum and Paleontology was divided in two Departments, one of Vertebrate Paleontology and the other of Invertebrate Paleozoology and Paleobotany, with A. Cabrera and J. Frenguelli heading each of them. Between 1937 and 1942 Horacio J. Harrington was also working on invertebrate fossils. Starting in 1941, A. F. Leanza became head of the Invertebrate Paleontology Section and in 1947 and 1948 Head of Division. Abstract: The aim of this work was to evaluate the corrosion resistance of AuPdAgIn alloy, submitted to laser beam welding, in 0.9% NaCl solution, using electrochemical techniques. Measures of the open circuit potential (OCP) versus time were applied to electrochemical experiments, as well as potentiodynamic direct scanning (PDS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) on AuPdAgIn alloy, submitted to laser beam welding in 0.9% NaCl solution. Some differences observed in the microstructure can explain the results obtained for corrosion potential, Ecorr, and corrosion resistance, Rp. EIS spectra have been characterized by distorted capacitive components, presenting linear impedance at low frequencies, including a non-uniform diffusion. The area of the laser weld presented corrosion potential slightly superior when compared to the one of the base metal. The impedance results suggest the best resistant corrosion behavior for laser weld than base metal region. This welding process is a promising alternative to dental prostheses casting.
Dielectric Spectroscopy Analyses of SrBi4Ti4O15 Films Obtained from Soft Chemical Solution

Abstract: SrBi4Ti4O15 (SBTi) thin films were deposited by the polymeric precursor method on Pt bottom electrodes. The obtained films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and dielectric spectroscopy analyses. The capacitance-voltage (-) characteristics of perovskite thin film showed normal ferroelectric behavior. The remanent polarization and coercive fields were 5.4 C/cm2 and 85 kV/cm, respectively. Dielectric spectroscopy was employed to examine the polycrystalline behavior of ferroelectric material and the mechanisms responsible for the dielectric performance of the thin film.

Abstract: the electrochemical behavior of the enzyme peroxidase (hrp) was investigated using the hydrogen peroxide as enzymatic substrate and the 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-asa) as mediator of electrons on graphite electrodes. several parameters were optimized, namely, the applied potential to the amperometric technique fixed in -0.125v, the 0.1 mol l-1 phosphate-citrate buffer at ph 5.0 as supporting electrolyte and the proportion between the 5-asa and h2o2 in 1:7, among others. it was observed the catalysis of the oxidation reaction of the h2o2 in the presence of the enzyme hrp and 5-asa. the oxidation product was reduced in the electrode surface, evidencing a significant increase in the intensity of the cathodic current.
