In Situ Hydroxyapatite Synthesis: Influence of Collagen on Its Structural and Morphological Characteristic  [PDF]
Luis C. Mendes, Geysy L. Ribeiro, Raphaella C. Marques
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2012.38083
Abstract: Hydroxyapatite (HA) was synthesized in situ by the precipitation method, with and without the presence of collagen (COLL), to study its influence on HA’s structural and morphological characteristics. The material was characterized by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The Ca/P molar ratio was influenced by collagen addition—1.89 and 2.38 for samples without and with collagen, respectively. The WAXD pattern revealed better resolution and intensity besides higher crystallinity degree of the HA in the presence of collagen. The photomicrographs showed a strong influence of collagen on the HA morphology.
Réplicas topográficas nas narrativas de viagem sobre a índia

Etnográfica , 2010,
Abstract: in this article, i intend to examine the ways in which travel accounts about india perform, the meanings they carry and translate, and their impact at the level of perceptions and discursive practices in the international tourism encounter in kolkata (the capital of the state of west bengal, india). the scrutiny of the style of narratives used by the western tourists, approached in this city during 2004-2007, revealed a characteristic, transversal to most of the accounts, which is the attempt towards the reproduction of stylistic techniques of the travel literature genre by using replicas of style, terms, manifested contents and meanings, in a cumulative way.
As redes importam para o acesso a bens e servi?os obtidos fora de mercados?
Marques, Eduardo C. L.;
Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092009000300003
Abstract: this article discusses the role of social networks and sociability in the access by poor people to goods and services obtained outside of markets. the article uses qualitative information from a research about social networks of poor individuals living in segregated places in s?o paulo, as well as middle class individuals used as a control. the results show the importance of networks and suggest that the helps that mediate the accesses depend upon the types of ties and trust involved, as well as the cost of helping. the observed processes tend to reiterate inequalities, establishing circularities of poverty reproduction.

Strength in power sports: the latest scientific results
MáRIO C. MARQUES
Journal of Physical Education and Sport , 2011,
Abstract: Problem Statement: During the last decades, strength and power training has been a major issue for, coaches, athletes and researchers. Unfortunately, despite the increasing professionalization of coaches and athletes, thereis little research data concerning performance in elite athletes. Several studies showed that a specific strengthtraining program can improve athletes’ maximal force and power production, reduce the incidence of injury, andcontribute to faster injury recovery times, thereby minimizing the number of missed practice sessions andcompetitions. To our best knowledge, however, there is no apparent consensus on the appropriate method ofstrength and muscular power training to enhance performance, especially in typically power sports. On this, some questions remain unresolved and there have focused objective of our study: How much strength does anathlete need? Is the maximum strength the key for success? Is the muscular power the main issue?Approach: Therefore, the aim of this study focuses on a literature scientific search extended about strength inpower sports specifically. Results: Studies in this area continue to contradict because they differ markedly in terms of design factors, including mode, frequency, intensity, frequency of training, and training history of subjects.Conclusions/Recommendations: We can conclude that once a given level of strength training intensity hasbeen reached in trained athletes, the appropriate physiological adaptations may well be optimized and thattraining beyond this limit provides no further benefits
Réplicas topográficas nas narrativas de viagem sobre a índia Topographical replicas in travel narratives about India
Sandra C. S. Marques
In this article, I intend to examine the ways in which travel accounts about India perform, the meanings they carry and translate, and their impact at the level of perceptions and discursive practices in the international tourism encounter in Kolkata (the capital of the state of West Bengal, India).
A priori estimates for the Yamabe problem in the non-locally conformally flat case
Fernando C. Marques
Mathematics , 2004,
Abstract: Given a compact Riemannian manifold, with positive Yamabe quotient, not conformally diffeomorphic to the standard sphere, we prove a priori estimates for solutions to the Yamabe problem. We restrict ourselves to the dimensions less than or equal to 7, where the Positive Mass Theorem is known to be true. We also show that, when the dimension is greater than or equal to 6, the Weyl tensor has to vanish at a point where solutions to the Yamabe equation blow up.

Statistics , 2013,
Abstract: We describe briefly in this note a procedure for consistently estimating the marginal likelihood of a statistical model through a sample from the posterior distribution of the model parameters.
