POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS (PAHS) IN SEAFOOD CAUGHT OFF IN NAPOLI GULF (ITALY)

Abstract: Benzo(a)pyrene and other 12 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection in different seafoods (Merluccius merluccius, Arnoglossus laterna, Scomber japonicus, Eledone moschata and Penaeus kerathurus) collected along the coast of Napoli gulf (Italy). The results showed that Bap levels exceeded the limit fixed by EU Regulation 1881/2006 in several species and the concentrations of PAHs were higher in winter than in summer season. The presence of carcinogenic PAH in fish is dangerous to human health and should be seriously considered.

Abstract: Dioxins (PCDDs and PCDFs) and PCBs are a group of and toxic organo-chlorinated chemicals comprising hundreds of structurally related compounds (congeners) classified as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). It is acknowledged that 17 PCDD and PCDF congeners are of major concern due to their toxicity; 12 PCB congeners are also recognized to express dioxin-like toxicity and are thereby identified as DL-PCBs. Due to their high persistence and lipophilic nature, dioxins and PCBs tend to accumulate in fat and their bio-accumulation through the food chain may pose the risk of causing adverse effects to human health. For the general population, dietary intake is the most important pathway of exposure to the aforesaid environmental contaminants: meat, milk and dairy products, and fish and other seafood products contribute to total daily intake for more than 90 %. To prevent excessive human exposure to dioxins and DL-PCBs, the European Commission established maximum levels for dioxins and the sum of dioxins and DL-PCBs in an array of food components mainly of animal origin (Regulation EC 1881/2006). In this study, dioxins and DL-PCB concentrations were measured in buffalo milk collected from three impounded Campania farms producing milk with different contamination levels. The fate of contaminants in mozzarella cheese, whey, and whey cheese was also investigated. Analyses were carried out by HRGC-HRMS using US EPA Method 1613. The results of this study show the carry-over of the contamination from milk to its dairy products.
ENVIROMENTAL HYDROCARBON CONTAMINATION IN RICOTTA AND MOZZARELLA DI BUFALA CHEESE

Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), mainly formed by anthropogenic activities, are ubiquitous environmental contaminants. Due to environmental contamination and their chemical properties they migrate through the human food chain. Aim of this study was the evaluation of PAHs in ricotta and mozzarella di bufala cheese, produced by milk of buffalo collected in three farms, located in a high contaminated area in Campania because of a waste treatment plant and illegal waste incineration. 11 PAHs were identified both in milk and dairy products. Carcinogenic hydrocarbon benzo(a)pyrene were found in a range including 0.42- 12.96 μg/kg and dibenzo(ah)anthracene 0.21-10.08 μg/kg. Anthracene showed higher concentrations than the other PAHs (45.23-436.85 μg/kg).
SHELF LIFE OF THAWED CRUSTACEANS TREATED WITH SULPHITES

Abstract: The quality of fish and fish products is closely related to their freshness. Aim of this research was to evaluate the shelf life of thawed crustaceans (Aristeomorpha foliacea and Nefrops norvegicus) which had been treated with sulphites and frozen on board. Organoleptic characteristics and microbiological and chemical parameters were judged favourably up to day 6 and 7 for the shrimps and Norway lobsters, respectively.
DRY SALTED AND SMOKED TUNA PRODUCTS. CHEMICAL, RHEOLOGICAL AND NUTRITIONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Abstract: Since the presence of bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) is limited to some fishing areas and the species undergoes a high fishing pressure the commercial answers to this situation might be the diversification of the commercial offer. The commercial value of this species, especially in oriental market, has prompted researches aiming at fully exploiting the potential of this species through the production of innovative tuna based products. Sliceable dry salted and smoked tuna products were manufactured using whole muscles from fresh and frozen subjects. The shelf life was long enough to justify the industrial production (up to 3 months or more). No significant correlations were observed between sensory characteristics and physico-chemical parameters.

Abstract: “Colatura d’alici”is a speciality made in Cetara, a clear ,amber-coloured liquid that has sharp taste, prepared with the juice coming from the anchovy salting process. The anchovies are caught in the Gulf of Salerno between the mounths of March and July. The colatura is ready at the beginning of December. Histamine poisoning, a food-borne chemical intoxication caused by the consumption of food containing toxic levels of histamine, is a syndrome commonly associated with the consumption of seafood beloging to the Engraulidae and some fish families. Histamine and biogenic amine levels were determined in “colatura di alici di Cetara”. The amine was separated in a HPLC/FL system. Histamine level were lower than the law limits only in one of the examinated products. A reduction of the histamine and amine levels in colatura cetarese can be obtained using a determinate salt concentrations and changing way of seasoning.

Volatility fuels fraction of the estimated parameters and letkosti. Volatility characterizes the ability to switch fuels in vaporous state. Selecting indicators to assess the volatility depends on the chemical composition of fuel. The main measure letkosti etanolnogo fuel is vapor pressure. The most simple and cost-effective to improve cold start is putting in fuel lehkoletyuchyh components: butane, izopentanu, gas and other petroleum. It was investigated the influence of DEE on alcohol-gasoline blend, the results show that DEE positive impact on increasing vapor pressure to the desired minimum for starting the engine. But because the ether to 19%, then at such high levels can actively formed peroxide compounds, which is undesirable. Very promising is the use of propane-butane gas mixture as lehkoletyuchoyi gaseous component. Butanizovani spirit-petrol mixture can be recommended for use as alternative fuel vehicles after further study of their stability and himmotolohichnyh characteristics. Автомобильные бензины и альтернативные биологические топлива на основе этанола преимущественно предназначены для применения в двигателях внутреннего сгорания. При использовании альтернативного биологического топлива, особенно этанольного, возникает проблема недостаточной испаряемости бензина при низкой температуре, в результате чего в холодное время года двигатель может не запуститься. Пусковые свойства бензина зависят от содержания в них летучих фракций или летучих соединений. Проблему холодного запуска предлагается решать за счет использования пропан-бутановой смеси для повышения давления насыщенного пара. Для перспективного применения газов пропан-бутановой смеси легколетучего газообразного компонента необходимы дальнейшие исследования стабилизации такой композиции.

Abstract: The factors having an effect on the system of air transport in the Republic of Lithuania in connection with Lithuania’s membership in the European Union are discussed. The structure of the system of air transport of the country is presented, an analysis of the current situation and a strategic analysis of the development of the system is made, and the measures addressed at the long-range perspective are proposed.
