Geographic distribution and morphometric differentiation of Triatoma nitida usinger 1939 (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae) in Guatemala

Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2003,
Abstract: Triatoma nitida was found in 14 (0.4%) out of 3,726 houses located in six departments across Guatemala, which were surveyed from 1994 to 1998 by the man-hour collection method. Compared to previous information, the distribution of T. nitida in Guatemala has increased from five to nine departments; the species is present in mild climates at altitudes from 960 to 1,500 m. Fourteen percent of the intradomestic T. nitida were infected with Trypanosoma cruzi. The species was often found in conjunction with other triatomines (T. dimidiata and Rhodnius prolixus). The domestic and peridomestic presence of T. nitida in Guatemala was rare, but occasionally this species was colonizing human-made constructions. T. nitida appears to have a low importance as Chagas disease vector in Guatemala, as indicated by its scarce presence in the domestic habitats and defecation patterns. However, it clearly has potential to become a Chagas vector so we recommend an on-going study of the intradomestic presence of T. nitida following the control programs in Guatemala. Morphometric analysis of 47 T. nitida males from three localities showed quantitative differences between the populations, which indicates that geographic distance is an important factor in the structuring of T. nitida populations.

Journal of Arts and Humanities , 2013,

Abstract: This scientific essay proposes a set of theoretical considerations which permits to re-locate the protagonism of didactic in the construction of knowledge through the learning and teaching experience in the university education, since this institution forms the students within professional competences to participate in the productive working-process that society requires for its transformations. Therefore, to explain that the epistemological and methodological perspective of didactic allows teachers to act out teaching as a horizon of possibility for the teachers to interact with the student%u2019s subjectivity as a means of learning with significance and sense. Besides, we conceptualize the categories of didactic to interpret the specificities which fundament them in order to comprehend that didactic is also a relational space that involves attitudes, methods and procedures that reflects its theoretical principals. In order words, the educational action which emerges from didactic requires of onto-epistemological positions that incentive to search the unity of theory to integral, reflective, situated and committed practice to concrete situations related to the academic and social context. Finally, we attempt to present some reflections on the professional teaching practice within the university scholar context that contribute to approach the social request and the strategic objectives of our Polytechnic and Territorial University through the students%u2019 integral formation in the scientific and humanistic dimensional in response to the strategic lines according to %u201CSimón Bolivar′s%u201D National Project, 2007-2013%u201D.
Santamaría,Dulce María;
Letras , 2006,
Abstract: the idea behind this article is centered upon confirming, after a careful and thorough study of most of the works of ana teresa torres, the importance of memory, which by means of temporal devices, constructs or deconstructs a story. this paper also tries to show the artful way in which the narrator brings together memory and time. the theory that underlies the development of this article is the author herself, bachelard, da cunha, russo and thompkins - to name a few. following a documentary methodology, the analysis was carried out in three different levels: syntactic, semantic and pragmatic, from a structural perspective. based on this support, and on the experience of reading the author?s works, it was possible to establish that in torres`s texts, memory, as well as time, is transformed into ludic acts that give a fixing element to her stories and involve the readers in their actions.
