Knowledge governance, innovation and development
Burlamaqui, Leonardo;
Revista de Economia Política , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572010000400002
Abstract: this paper aims to be a very preliminary effort to contribute to a better understanding of the interaction among innovation, competition and intellectual property policies from an evolutionary-developmental perspective. as such, it seeks to build a more coherent framework within which the discussions of both institution building and policy design for development can proceed. in order to accomplish that, the paper introduces the concept of "knowledge governance" as an alternative analytical and policy-oriented approach, and suggests that from a public policy/public interest perspective, and within an evolutionary framework, it is a better way to address the problems concerning the production, appropriability and diffusion of knowledge. in doing so, it also intends contribute to broaden the ongoing discussions on the "new developmentalism".
Innovation, competition and financial vulnerability in economic development
Burlamaqui, Leonardo;Kregel, Jan;
Revista de Economia Política , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572005000200002
Abstract: the financial sector has been viewed traditionally as either providing the "oil" for the "wheels of commerce" or as a parasite on the real sector of the economy where real productivity gains provide for increasing real wages and per capita incomes. the present paper takes a different route and attempts to an analysis of financial institutions on a par with the production sector of the economy. it also develops a link which amalgamates "the knowledge-based" perspective on firms' operations with schumpeterian financial leverage to exploit productivity enhancing innovations, and minsky's tendency towards financial fragility. the analysis also leads to some policy recommendations concerning financial regulation, risk management and financial institution's building.

Revista Brasileira de Inova??o , 2003,
Abstract: This article intends to contribute with the ongoing effort towards a conceptualarticulation among the theories of competition and innovation developed underthe research program of Evolutionary Economics, the Resource-Based View inStrategic Management and the Post-Keynesian perspective on commitments anddecision-making under uncertainty. It makes three main points: (i) it underlinesthe convergence and complementarities of the central propositions of EvolutionaryEconomics and the Resource-Based View; (ii) it brings out the convergence betweenthe economics of uncertainty developed by the post-Keynesian research programand the commitment-capabilities approach pioneered by Penrose, Ghemawat, Teeceand Pisano; (iii) it suggests that contemporary models of the strategy-making processesand strategic management are developing propositions that should beabsorbed by this same conceptual framework.The article thus concludes for the feasibility and usefulness for developing aStrategic Theory of the Firm grounded in the relationships among competition,innovation, competitiveness, decision-making under uncertainty, the inevitabilityof strategic commitments and the search for strategic liquidity.

Abstract: The Interactive Digital Television (iDTV) has facilitated and expanded the communication and interaction in activities of knowledge acquisitions, entertainment and recreation in Distance Learning field. This new way of teaching and learning has been called t-Learning. In this context, the Learning Objects (LOs) have an important role to assist in the electronic courses’ development. Due the fast progress of e-Learning, some efforts to standardization have appeared in order to enable the reusability of educational contents and interoperability among systems, and one of these standards is the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM). Therefore, the main goal of this work is to present an extension of SCORM aiming to adapt it in order to improve the search and navigation of LOs with educational content for t-Learning. That will be done through an authoring tool named T-SCORM ADAPTER, which will be able to apply this extension in a fast and efficient way.

Sensors , 2012, DOI: 10.3390/s120201572
Abstract: This article presents a novel closed loop control architecture based on audio channels of several types of computing devices, such as mobile phones and tablet computers, but not restricted to them. The communication is based on an audio interface that relies on the exchange of audio tones, allowing sensors to be read and actuators to be controlled. As an application example, the presented technique is used to build a low cost mobile robot, but the system can also be used in a variety of mechatronics applications and sensor networks, where smartphones are the basic building blocks.

Abstract: The effects of cutting plant age (21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63 and 70 days) on dry matter (DM) yield, and radiation use efficiency (RUE) of Axonopus aureus, during dry season, were evaluated under natural field conditions. DM yields, absolute growth rate (AGR), crop growth and relative growth rates and leaf area increased consistently with growth stage. The relations between DM yield and AGR with cutting plants age were described by the quadratic regression model. The maximum DM yield, AGR and RUE were estimated at 62.6; 47.8 and 51.7 days of regrowth, respectively. The response of forage yield to incident photosynthetically active radiation was quadratic and maximum value estimated at 487.7 MJ/m2, which corresponded to 796.7 kg of DM/ha.
