Bruno Pinheiro
CEM : Cultura, Espa?o & Memória , 2012,
Abstract: History as a school subject, which has been considered according to some studies to be used for the transmission of political ideals, gathers the necessary prerequisites to promote society’s laicization. Therefore, using the subject of history as an example, we aim to evaluate whether the current Portuguese teaching has developed a religious education that supports the legislation implemented one hundred years ago, which was designed to separate the state from the church. To do so we compared Estado Novo (period of society’s laicization regression) and current History curriculums using as a source of information the manuals adopted in 1951 for the second cycle of secondary education and the most used manual in 2009 for the third cycle of basic education. This study allowed us to conclude that in 2009 the subject of history still did not present a religious education fully adapted to the current educational needs.
Reis, Bruno Pinheiro W.;
Revista de Sociologia e Política , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-44782003000200004
Abstract: this article initiates a theoretical and methodological discussion on the problems raised in robert d. putnam's making democracy work, published in 1993. looking at its structural logic as well as its analytical affinities with earlier literature, the paper focuses specifically on the theoretical and empirical meanings of the concepts of "social capital" and "confidence". it concludes by identifying a research agenda that, while promising, is also evidently "immature", both from the point of view of the theory's empirical operationalization as well as in relation to a need for more precise analytical specification of the meaning of its central categories.

G?del and the Incompleteness of Arithmetic  [PDF]
Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2016.68042
Abstract: People normally believe that Arithmetic is not complete because GÖdel launched this idea a long time ago, and it looks as if nobody has presented sound evidence on the contrary. We here intend to do that perhaps for the first time in history. We prove that what Stanford Encyclopedia has referred to as Theorem 3 cannot be true, and, therefore, if nothing else is presented in favour of GÖdel’s thesis, we actually do not have evidence on the incompleteness of Arithmetic: All available evidence seems to point at the extremely opposite direction.

Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Cardiovascular , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-76382004000100007
Abstract: objective: to evaluate the efficacy of the extended vertical transseptal approach in mitral valve reoperation with a small left atrium. method: from january 2001 to december 2002, 15 patients with previous mitral operations, small left atrium and atrial fibrillation underwent mitral valve surgery through an extended vertical transseptal incision. there were nine women and six men. their ages ranged from 22 to 48 years. the main surgical indication was mitral prosthetic dysfunction in six patients, pure mitral regurgitation in five and mitral stenosis with regurgitation in four. three patients had associated aortic regurgitation and one patient had associated tricuspid regurgitation. nine patients (60%) were in congestive heart failure function class iii (nyha) and six patients (40%) in function class iv. results: in all patients this approach provided excellent exposure. the cardiopulmonary bypass time ranged from 65 to 150 minutes (mean = 95 minutes). the mitral valve was replaced in 15 patients, the aortic valve in three and the tricuspid valve in one. one patient died secondary to cardiogenic shock and multiple organ failure (hospital mortality 7.1%). another patient had pneumonia in the postoperative period (morbidity 6.7%). ten patients remained in atrial fibrillation, three regained sinus rhythm and one was in nodal rhythm. the mean hospital stay was 8.2 days. twelve patients (85%) have been in nyha functional class i and two patients (15%) in functional class ii. actuarial survival rate at 22 months is 92.5%. conclusion: the extended vertical transseptal approach provides excellent mitral valve exposure without inherent complications.
Abstract: This article aims to sketch a diachronic analysis of a centenary process that must not be reduced to its micro-computerized version: the e-learning. If its historical process was started by the emissions supported by radio-broadcasters, was reinforced during World War II due to the use of educational films applied to the Army training and was affirmed by the mass use of multimedia micro-computers connected to telematic networks in the late twentieth century, then it is relevant to know the evolution of the theoretical, technological and pedagogical means used in the e-learning process. This historical approach intends also to understand the role played by the the nature, mission and methods of the distance education and educational technology in the shaping process of the e-learning’s educational rationale.

Abstract: During the early modern era, the city of Porto was the scenario of several popular uprisings, which have come to attract the interest of Portuguese historiography. This historiography however tends to analyse each riot as an isolated phenomenon, losing sight of important broad aspects which led to all these popular uprisings. Thus, this study aims to examine comparatively three riots in the city of Porto (1592, 1661, 1757), based on the existent descriptions of these popular uprisings. It was thus possible to conclude that, beyond the riots in the city of Porto, there were many clear motivations, featured places, leaderships and consequences encouraging their outbreak
Pinheiro, Bruno Botelho;Fiorelli, Alfredo Inácio;Gomes, Otoni Moreira;
Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Cardiovascular , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-76382009000100007
Abstract: objective: to assess the effects of ischemic postconditioning on left ventricular function in isolated rat hearts. methods: twenty-four wistar rats were used. these hearts underwent perfusion by modified langerdorff method and distributed into three groups: gi - control (n=8); gii - three cycles of postconditioning of 10/10s (n=8); giii three cycles of postconditioning of 30/30s (n=8). after a 15min stabilization period, all hearts underwent 20min of global ischemia following 20min of reperfusion. in the times 0 (control), 5, 10, 15 and 20min of reperfusion, the heart rate (hr), the coronary flow (cof), the systolic pressure, the (+dp/dt max) contractility and (-dp/dt max) velocity of relaxation were measured. data were analyzed by anova method followed by tukey's test for differences between groups and p < 0.05 was considered significant. results: the hr (bpm) decreased in all groups after 20min of reperfusion without statistical differences among them (gi 232.5+36.8; gii 241.8+46.7; giii 249.4+40.4;p>0.05). the same occurred with the systolic pressure (mmhg) (gi 132.6+49.3; gii 140.8+43.1; giii 112.6+33.2; p>0.05), coronary blood flow (gi 18.5+4.6; gii 21.4+4.4; giii 22.1+9.0; p>0.05) and -dp/dt max (mmhg) (gi 1490.6+512.0; gii 1770.4+406.6; giii 1399.1+327.4; p>0.05). the +dp/dt max (mmhg) decreased significantly in all groups except in group ii (gi 1409.0+415.2, gii 1917.3+403.1, giii 1344.8+355.8) (gii vs gi, p= 0.04; gii vs giii, p= 0.02). conclusion: the ischemic postconditioning by three cycles of reperfusion/ischemia of 10/10s demonstrated to be effective for preservation of the myocardial contractility in isolated rat hearts which had undergone 20min of ischemia.
