Diagnósticos enfermeros priorizados en atención primaria
Brito Brito,Pedro Ruyman;
Enfermería Global , 2009, DOI: 10.4321/S1695-61412009000200008
Abstract: the objective of this study is to prioritize, according to frequency and importance, nursing diagnoses used in primary health care. a cross-sectional observational descriptive study was carried out by means of a survey distributed to 18 nurses of two basic areas of health care. the analysis of the information was carried out after the organization of the surveys into tables and adding up the frequency and importance values. the priority was stated following the above mentioned values. the main results obtained were a list of priority diagnoses for health care that included: acute pain, ineffective managing of the therapeutic regimen, risk of infection, chronic pain, nutritional imbalance of excess, anxiety, deterioration of the cutaneous integrity, risk of falls, risk of unstable glucose, and weariness in the performance of the caregiver?s role. we must emphasize the priority that the participants have given to biophysical problems, which coincides with the results of other studies and makes evident the difficulties of the identification and approaching of psychosocial problems.
Exercise and cognitive function: a hypothesis for the association of type II diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer's disease from an evolutionary perspective

Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome , 2009, DOI: 10.1186/1758-5996-1-7
Abstract: The great evolutionary biologist Theodosius Dobzhansky once said: "Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution". Along this line, I will put forward a hypothesis for the association of type II diabetes mellitus (DM2) and Alzheimer disease (AD) from an evolutionary perspective. This hypothesis contends that the close interplay between physical activity/exercise and cognitive function was selected for during the course of evolution, but the absence of sufficient physical activity typical of modern societies provoked a rupture of the evolutionary relationship of exercise and cognitive function thereby producing the fundamental metabolic features of DM2 which in the brain over a protracted time span lead to the neuropathology of AD. I will begin by posing the issue of the association of DM2 and AD and then proceed with a brief review of the endurance running hypothesis for the evolution of man. Next, the neurobiological and neurobehavioral effects of exercise/physical activity will be discussed and then I will present the hypothesis. Lastly, directions for further research on the basis of the hypothesis will be suggested.Although both physical activity and exercise involve bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles, exercise, but not physical activity, incorporates a goal for the physical activity namely to improve or maintain physical fitness. Be that as it may, in the present paper physical activity and exercise will be used interchangeably.DM2 and AD are common in the elderly population the world over. Since these two disorders are both chronic and progressive, their combined economic burden on society has skyrocketed pari passu with the aging of the population. Therefore, DM2 and AD have become two of the most important diseases in the geriatric health care practice.The prevalence of DM2 in people older than 65 years in Western societies is 8.5% [1] and the corresponding figure for AD is about 30.0% at 80 years [2]. Thus, the prevalence rates o
O deslocamento da popula??o brasileira para as metrópoles
Brito, Fausto;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142006000200017
Abstract: the aim of this article is the analysis of the brazilian urbanization process during the second half of the 20th century. for this purpose it is important to take note that the 1970 demographic census indicated that the urban population had surpassed the rural population for the first time. the rapid contemporary urbanization due to intense internal migration concentrated the urban population in the larger brazilian cities and metropolitan areas. during the last two decades, however, the growth rates of the larger cities has declined due to lower fertility rates and, more importantly, decreasing number of immigrants. indeed, the metropolitan area of s?o paulo, for example, presented negative net migration for the 1995-2000 period. although internal migration trends do not point to a process of "hipermetropolitanization", it must be taken into account that as of 2000 40% of the country?s urban population still inhabited the larger metropolitan areas.
Tiempo y memoria. Representaciones de/desde lo femenino En una novela de Ana Pizarro
Letras , 2009,
Abstract: the article proposes an analysis of how the perspective offered by gender studies becomes a rigorous and coherent strategy to approach novels of feminine authors. this option is chosen since it allows and appreciation of the artistic-aesthetic value of discourse, as it provokes reflection upon social issues. in this sense, the novel la luna, el viento, el a?o, el día (the moon, the wind, the year, the day) (1994), of the chilean writer ana pizarro, has been selected because it evidences a complex textualization of time and memory as representation of concerns and questionings that underlie in the cultural imaginary. in order to theoretically support this study, an appeal has been made to statements by ricoeur (1995), kermode (1983), rivas (2004) and hintze (2007), among others. it is concluded that the procedures of narrative construction exhibited in the text account for the links between the feminine and the appraisal of memory as an instance that recuperates and elaborates temporality.
A poiêtikê technê como instrumento meta-filosófico
Brito, Humberto;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2012000100003
Abstract: i will argue that aristotle's inquiry into poiêtikê technê should be taken as an inquiry into a meta-philosophical vocabulary. i claim that the main advantage of such a vocabulary is that of making explicit a conceptual contiguity between a number of problems concerning action theory, rationality, collective cognition, as well as that of affording indirect intelligibility to how human communities share dispositions.
Yoga en el Tratamiento de Adicciones: La Experiencia de Dos A?os de Práctica de Yoga con Pacientes del Centro de Rehabilitación Takiwasi
Psicoperspectivas , 2010, DOI: 10.5027/psicoperspectivas-Vol9-Issue2-fulltext-90
Abstract: this article aims to present in detail and from an experiential view the use of yoga practice as a complementary therapeutic technique in the treatment of addictions. considering that, despite the increasing popularity of this practice, there are few detailed descriptions of its use in clinical settings, this article provides an overview of the philosophy and practice of yoga, its physical and psychological benefits, its practice in a particular clinical context - the treatment of addictions-, and, finally, the view of the patients on the role of yoga in their rehabilitation process.
Uma proposta de vigilancia em saúde do trabalhador com a ótica de gênero
Brito, Jussara;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X1997000600013
Abstract: this paper deals with differences and inequalities. the current workers' health surveillance model is discussed, pointing to the need for a gender perspective in this area. the article maintains that certain classical notions should be reviewed and that risk maps can be more useful if they are capable of identifying exposure according to gender, thus enhancing the different kinds of division of labor under which they operate. women workers' proposals are placed alongside sociological analyses in terms of the interface between production and reproduction and the debate over the gender perspective in the health-disease process. the paper concludes with an attempt to establish a new approach to workers' health surveillance, highlighting the centralness of work and the inter-subjectiveness of determining the relationship between production and health.
Trabalho e Saúde Coletiva: o ponto de vista da atividade e das rela??es de gênero
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232005000400012
Abstract: insofar as work is a fundamental activity in life, we try to show the importance of gaining a better understanding of its dimensions for incorporation into analyses of the set of collective health problems. this is why we have adopted approaches that explore the concept of the activity of work, together with studies of gender relations, bearing in mind that in both cases the aim is to underline the different dimensions of work. using the activity of work concept, we get closer to the non-standardizable, changeable and variable nature of life and work situations. we use the concept of health in canguilhem?s work, which draws attention to the active relationship between the individual and his environment (of work), with a view to outlining a debate on the possibility of creating health norms. the materials dealing with gender-based division of labor - basic material of gender relations - combine with the issues raised by the concept of the activity of work, which also provide elements to a better perception of the health/work relationship. at the interface of these two points of view (work as activity and as the embodiment of gender relations) we come face to face with the importance of the experience of workers in the generation of knowledge concerning health and the need for multiple forms of intervention.
Transi??o demográfica e desigualdades sociais no Brasil
Brito, Fausto;
Revista Brasileira de Estudos de Popula??o , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-30982008000100002
Abstract: this article examines the idiosyncrasies of demographic transitions in brazil caused by the extreme disparities among regions and socioeconomic groups. while ubiquitous, demographic transition in brazil shows a number of different facets. it is far from being a neutral process and creates opportunities as well as broad socioeconomic disparities. because of differences in fertility rates by ses, those in lower-income brackets constitute the fastest growing populational group, as well as the group with the youngest age distribution. this article argues that socioeconomic differences are related to demographic disparities. therefore, the development of public policies to improve the well-being of the poorest may help increase demographic dividends for the entire population.
Uma abordagem relacional ao valor da marca
Revista Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gest?o , 2010,
Abstract: brands are not just a sign. brands are not just elements that position products and companies. for many years, brands have been regarded as links between products/companies and their customers. however, this view has dramatically changed inasmuch as brands are now considered partners of the relationships they establish with consumers. in this line, this working paper develops a holistic model on the basis of a relational perspective of brand equity.
