A constru??o da subjetividade masculina e seu impacto sobre a saúde do homem: reflex?o bioética sobre justi?a distributiva
Braz,Marlene;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232005000100016
Abstract: this paper aims to reflect on male subjectivity construction and its impact in man's health. the essay methodology was chosen since we decided to evaluate and explores this issue. first, morbidity and mortality data were analyzed and disclosed an excess of male mortality that transcends the violence figures, already well studied by others researchers. the next part tries to establish a relationship between social and cultural issues related to male subjectivity construction and their contribution to male morbimortality prejudice. on the third part, using the bioethical perspective, how those problems result in unbalanced distributive justice as well as inequity in providing male population health care are discussed. in conclusion, one can realize that public health policies pay little attention to man's health and, as a consequence, settle unattainable health services.

"Like a porn movie": Notes on boundaries and bodies that matter in male sex clubs
Braz, Camilo;
Vibrant: Virtual Brazilian Anthropology , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1809-43412012000100005
Abstract: this article is based on ethnographic research carried out in male sex clubs in s?o paulo between 2006 and 2008. drawing on interviews conducted with club-goers and club owners, it discusses the recent segmentation of the sexual leisure market for men in the city, and the processes by which stereotypes and characteristics associated with virility are valued and performed. the possible effects of these processes on subjectivity constitution are also investigated. in sex clubs, sexual practices considered borderline, such as fist-fucking and other practices associated with bdsm, are material for specific and refined learning. the data gathered from interviews show that condom use and drug and alcohol consumption are subject to a sort of surveillance and control, especially when it comes to their questions of 'excess'. this control provides sex clubs with a sense of legitimacy, making them part of a viable erotic market. the intention here is to demonstrate the analytical interest of this control in the context of the construction of subjects and bodies that matter in these venues. like practices which evoke control or loss thereof, bodies and clubs need to have their excesses checked so that they are intelligible and desirable.
Hobbes Y Kant: De La Guerra Entre Los Individuos A La Guerra Entre Los Estados
Adelino Braz
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2003,
Abstract: The article takes the Kantian criticism to the political thought of Hobbes. It explains in the first place the logic of the desire of power in Hobbes and how this conducts to a state of war, or state of nature, that only can be finish under the threat of a sovereign, that receives from all the members of a community the right to defend them from others. Subsequently it explains the critics done by Kant to the hobbesian formulation of the state of nature, where it is assumed that just the establishment of the civil state, is sufficient to end to the state of war.

A distribui??o de indivíduos qualificados nas regi?es metropolitanas brasileiras: a influência do entretenimento e da diversidade populacional
Golgher, André Braz;
Nova Economia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-63512011000100004
Abstract: this paper is based theoretically on the discussion presented by florida, in particular two of his hypotheses. the first one states that the concentration of bohemians in an area signals an environment that attracts talented people. the second emphasizes that more tolerant societies are also more attractive to creative people. firstly, i analyzed the distribution of skilled individuals in all metropolitan regions in brazil. moreover, i studied empirically these two hypotheses with the use of panel analyses. levels of bohemia, which were used as a proxi for the first hypothesis, were positively correlated with the proportion of skilled individuals in the locality. however, i did not observe any significant correlation between population diversity, the proxy for the second hypothesis, and local levels of skills. lastly, i classified the metropolitan regions in brazil with the use of cluster analyses in similar groups.
Macho versus Macho: um olhar antropológico sobre práticas homoeróticas entre homens em S?o Paulo
Braz, Camilo Albuquerque de;
Cadernos Pagu , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-83332007000100009
Abstract: in this work, i intend to investigate homoerotic practices among men in s?o paulo city in sites for casual, group or anonymous sex, involving sometimes fetishisms and/or sadomasochism. preliminary field data, most of which collected in the internet, shed light on the existence of discourses that grant great value to masculinity in some of these contexts. my hypothesis is that such valorization must be taken into account so as to fathom out the processes of body materialization and subjectivity construction in each of these men.

Língua e poder: transcrevendo a quest?o nacional
Dias, Juliana Braz;
Mana , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132002000100001
Abstract: this article aims to analyze the debate taking place among a group of cape verdean intellectuals concerning the linguistic situation in cape verde. motivated by the problem of creating the image of a single and indivisible state in a context marked by linguistic plurality, this debate reveals how the question of language can act as an obstacle for developing countries in terms of attaining the social, political, economic and cultural organization represented by the nation-state. proposals to make creole a standard and official language are examined in order to expose the interests of the group promoting this standpoint, as well as the possible consequences of this kind of linguistic politics, which despite its impact on cape verdean society, remain silenced in the analyzed discourses.
