Nevadensin: Isolation, chemistry and bioactivity

Abstract: Nevadensin (5,7-dihydroxy-6,8,4′-trimethoxyflavone) has already established itself as a promising natural bioactive substance that bears the potential to become a novel "natural lead" in drug discovery programmes. The bioflavonoid exhibited a wide range of significant biological activities including hypotensive, anti-tubercular, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and anti-cancer activities. This review deals with natural sources, isolation, chemistry and biological activities of the flavonoid in detail. The present resume is aimed to boost the ongoing researches on pharmaceutically potential natural "lead molecules" in drug discovery programmes.

Abstract: The Papaveraceae, informally known as the poppy family, are an ethnopharmacologically important family of 44 genera and approximately 760 species of flowering plants. The present work offers a review addressing the detailed chemistry and pharmacology of Argemone mexicana L. regarded as one of the most significant plant species in traditional system of medicine. The plant is used in different parts of the world for the treatment of several ailments including tumors, warts, skin diseases, inflammations, rheumatism, jaundice, leprosy, microbial infections, and malaria. Interestingly, the plant is the source of a diverse kind of chemical constituents although alkaloids are mostly abundant. Beyond pharmaceutical efficacies, certain plant parts also show toxic effects as well. Hence, an up-to-date information on the chemical and pharmacological knowledge on this plant may be helpful to guide researchers anticipating to undertake further investigations in these directions. The present review covers literature up to 2012 and enlists 111 references.

Abstract: In the title compound, C32H28F2N2O2, the tetrahydropyridine ring adopts a distorted boat conformation. The two fluorophenyl groups are attached to the tetrahydropyridine ring in a trans orientation. The dihedral angle between the planes of the fluoro-substituted rings is 57.0 (1)°. The amino group and carbonyl O atom are involved in intramolecular hydrogen bonding. In the crystal, weak C—H...O, C—H...F and C—H...π interactions link the molecules into columns along [010].

The chlorophenyl rings are inclined to one another by 55.2 (1)°, while for the fluorophenyl rings the dihedral angle is 80.7 (1)°. The amino group and carbonyl O atom are involved in an intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, weak C—H...O, C—H...F and C—H...Cl interactions link the molecules into a three-dimensional network.

Abstract:

The digha is located at the border of West Bengal and Orissa state. It has both fresh and saline waterbodies rich in aquatic vegetation and several kinds of birds in the harbours in all the seasons. Grassland areas, rice fields, herbs, shrubs and trees located in and around the water bodies provide food and shelter for these birds. Total number of 86 bird species belonging to 10 orders and 35 families were recorded during the 2-year long study period. Passeriformes is the dominant order of birds. But the future of this avian fauna is in danger due to unchecked growth of tourism related hotel industry and urbanisation of the city.

Abstract: Mining in India has developed haphazardly with a significant part of mining activities being informal or unauthorised. Open cast quarries, coal washeries, thermal power plants, coke-oven plants, etc., contribute to serious air and water pollution. The aim of this paper is to assess the QoL of residents living in Jharia coalfield. In this study, QoL domains are analysed considering the social, cultural, environmental, health and economic condition of the study areas. A path model has been developed to analyse the cascading effect on domains. The purpose of investigating path model with overall quality of life was to contribute to the subjective wellbeing literature by analyzing the predictors of OQoL in the sample population. Therefore, OQoL was used as the dependent variable of a regression analysis using four domains as variables and leveraging path analysis method to arrive at the causal model.
