Time Representation in Economics  [PDF]
Stefano Bosi, Lionel Ragot
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2012.21002
Abstract: In this paper, we study general polynomial discretizations in backward and forward looking, and the preservation of stability properties. We apply these results to the Ramsey model [4]. Its discrete-time version is a hybrid discretizations of a backward-looking budget constraint and a forward-looking Euler equation. Saddle-path stability is a robust property under discretization.
Conditions for the Upper Semicontinuous Representability of Preferences with Nontransitive Indifference  [PDF]
Gianni Bosi, Magali Zuanon
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2014.46048
Abstract:

We present different conditions for the existence of a pair of upper semicontinuous functions representing an interval order on a topological space without imposing any restrictive assumptions neither on the topological space nor on the representing functions. The particular case of second countable topological spaces, which is particularly interesting and frequent in economics, is carefully considered. Some final considerations concerning semiorders finish the paper.

Caminhos entre a literatura e a história
Bosi, Alfredo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142005000300024
Abstract: this essay summarizes the author's itinerary as historian of brazilian literature, theoretician of poetry and scholar of our cultural heritage. the initial moments of this career merit special attention: the study of croce's aesthetics, the first acquaintance with gramsci's marxist philosophy, the influence of christian existentialism in the late 1950s, and the political engagement in leftist politics in brazil in the 1960s and 70s. as professor of italian literature, the author has written theses on pirandello and leopardi, which remain unpublished. as a student of literary history, in the wake otto maria carpeaux's work, the author examines the dialectic relationships between ideology and poetry, and ideology and prose, which led to his concept of literature as resistance. when writing the dialectics of colonization, he immersed himself in the study of the tensions that distinguish the history of ideologies in brazil.
Fora sem dentro? Em torno de um poema de Jo?o Cabral de Melo Neto
Bosi, Alfredo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142004000100018
Abstract: the poem "na festa da casa-grande", by jo?o cabral de melo neto, focuses on the figure of a sugar cane mill laborer. melo neto's stylistic procedures closely bring to mind the pictorial techniques of joan miró, to which the poet dedicated an insightful essay. the use of intense, isolated figures and of brief melodic lines are in accordance with a surface-minded poetics, whose agenda differs from the classical perspective and its illusion of depth. such procedures, however, are valueless in themselves from an absolute viewpoint: they were used by the poet both in this poem (which turns sugar cane mill laborers into an empty thing) and in previous texts that pointed toward a vital attitude of resistance, either by the river or by the workers of brazil's northeast. what really makes the difference is the presence of an inner face, the voice of the poem, which is internal in o c?o sem plumas, o rio and morte e vida severina, but external in na festa na casa-grande, whose narrator is a congressman with a northeastern inflection. in the absence of perspective, this voice provides us with meaningfulness.
Economia e humanismo
Bosi, Alfredo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142012000200017
Abstract: this article aims to rebuild the history of economy and humanism movement, whose founder and theorist was the french dominican friar joseph-louis lebret. working initially with sailors and fishermen in his hometown, the breton port of saint-malo, he became aware of capitalist exploitation as represented by the large fishing boats that competed with the communal, small-scale fishing of the region. by studying the work of marx, lebret incorporated into christian social doctrine the notion of surplus value: hence his criticism of liberal economics. "human economy" begins with needs of the worker, not the profit calculations of the businessman. the survey teams of the economy and humanism movement studied living conditions in the poor neighborhoods of french cities after world war ii. coming to brazil, lebret guided similar surveys in s?o paulo, rio de janeiro, belo horizonte, and recife, preparing researchers to work with local governments. he visited 60 countries in the third world. by indication of dom helder camara, paul vi appointed him to the role of expert in social development issues at the second vatican council. shortly before his death in 1966, he helped to pen the encyclical populorum progressio.
Ant?nio Vieira, profeta e missionário: um estudo sobre a pseudomorfose e a contradi??o
Bosi, Alfredo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142008000300015
Abstract: this essay aims at analysing two ideological and semantic aspects of ant?nio vieira's works: the pseudomorphosis (theme of the first part) and the contradiction. the pseudomorphosis or false form is a figure through which the superficial layer of the text would not correspond to its deeper message: based on biblical prophecies and bandarra's ballads, vieira creates the image of a universal and christian fifth empire under which, however, one may distinguish the project of a vast portuguese empire. as to the contradiction (theme of the second part), vieira's missionary works reveal an acute contrast between the struggle for freedom of the indigenous people from maranh?o and the acquiescence in the enslavement of black africans. one may also perceive contradiction between this conformist attitude and the vehement defence of equality among all men created by the same god and redeemed by the same savior.

Raymundo Faoro leitor de Machado de Assis
Bosi, Alfredo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142004000200022
Abstract: raymundo faoro's work, machado de assis: the pyramid and the trapeze, studied the relationship between the narrator's situations and characters and the mindset of the social classes and status groups in imperial brazil. the framework of his interpretation of machado de assis resembles the structure of his own masterpiece, os donos do poder, which was strongly influenced by max weber's thought. according to faoro, we find in the work of assis both guilds (the trapeze) and classes (the pyramid). in addition, the novelist distances himself in values and from the bourgeoisification of the elites in the second empire. this article also points to a universalizing dimension of classical "moralism", which faoro identifies as one of the pivots of assis' fictional perspective.
Baudelaire mau vidraceiro
Bosi, Viviana;
Alea : Estudos Neolatinos , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-106X2007000100008
Abstract: baudelaire?s theoretical and poetic work deals repeatedly with the question of representation, either critizing the "brickmason?s" realism, or a certain kind of sugary romanticism. in paris spleen: little prose poems, this discussion assumes an ethical configuration, when, in "the bad glazier", the poet rebels against the mechanism of reproduction itself, both from the artistical point of view and from the social point of view. comparing this text with the one written by his friend and publisher arsène houssaye, who had published his poem in prose "the glazier?s song" about a similar theme, we may notice that two conceptions of mimesis are conveyed, each one revealing a very different perspective on poetics and life.
