Quercitrin from Ixora coccinea Leaves and its Anti-oxidant Activity

Abstract: One method has been developed to isolate quercitrin from Ixora coccinea leaves, which depends on fractionation of defatted hydro-alcoholic extract by different polarity solvents followed by purification through column chromatography. Isolated quercitrin has been characterized by using UV, IR, Mass spectral data, NMR data and also confirmed by using HPTLC and elemental analysis. The isolated quercitrin was shown a challenging potency to scavenge DPPH free radicals and also nitric oxide free radicals with very low IC50 value.
Antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of isolated constituents from the bark of Polyalthia longifolia

Abstract: The bark of Polyalthia longifolia is traditionally reputed to lower blood pressure, stimulate respiration and help in fever and skin diseases, diabetes, hypertension and vitiated conditions of vata and pitta. Preliminary phytochemical investigation of various extracts of the bark of Polyalthia longifolia showed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids and carbohydrates. An attempt has been made to isolate flavonoids and perform antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the same. We carried out DPPH radical scavenging assay, nitric oxide scavenging assay, metal chelating activity and reducing power activity in antioxidant activity. In antimicrobial activity, we used six microorganisms, which included two Gram positive, two Gram negative bacteria and two fungi. Both the isolated flavonoids exhibited a concentration-dependant free radical scavenging capacity. Isolated compounds showed promising results against various micro-organisms in comparison with standard drugs (Penicillin, Gentamicin and Ketoconazol).

Abstract: This paper, two Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models using radial basis function (RBF) nets are developed for the design of Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antennas (ACMSA) for different number of design parameters. The effect of increasing the number of design parameters on the ANN model is also discussed in this work. The performances of the models when compared are found that on decreasing the number of design parameters, accuracy of the model is in-creased. The results given by the prepared models are comparable with the results of the IE3D software. So, these models are accurate enough to measure the design parameters of ACMSAs. Thus the neural network approach elimi-nates the long time consuming process of finding various designing parameters using costly software packages.

Abstract:

The unsteady incompressible viscous flow of a Generalised Maxwell fluid between two coaxial rotating infinite parallel circular disks is studied by using the method of integral transforms. The motion of the fluid is created by the rotation of the upper and lower circular disks with different angular velocities. A fractional calculus approach is utilized to determine the velocity profile in series form in terms of Mittag-Leffler function. The influence of the fractional as well as the material parameters on the velocity field is illustrated graphically.

Abstract:

This paper presents a study of visco-elastic flow of an incompressible generalized Oldroyd-B fluid between two infinite parallel plates in which the constitutive equation involves fractional order time derivative. The solutions of field equations are being obtained for the motion of the said fluid between two parallel plates where the lower plate starts to move with steady velocity and the upper plate remains fixed in the first problem and the upper plate oscillates with constant frequency and the other being at rest in the second problem. The exact solutions for the velocity field are obtained by using the Laplace transform and finite Fourier Sine transform technique in terms of Mittag Leffler and generalised functions. The analytical expression for the velocity fields are derived and the effect of fractional parameters upon the velocity field is depicted graphically.

Abstract: In this paper an attempt has been made to study the unsteady incompressible flow of a generalized Oldroyd-B fluid between two oscillating parallel plates in presence of a transverse magnetic field. An exact solution for the velocity field has been obtained by means of Laplace and finite Fourier sine transformations in series form in terms of Mittage-Leffler function. The dependence of the velocity field on fractional as well as material parameters has been illustrated graphically. The velocity fields for the classical Newtonian, generalized Maxwell, generalized second grade and ordinary Oldroyd-B fluids are recovered as limiting cases of the flow considered for the generalized Oldroyd-B fluid.

Abstract: Carbon nanofibers and nanotubes are promising to revolutionise several fields in material science and are a major component of nanotechnology. Further market development will depend on material availability at reasonable prices. Nanotubes have a wide range of unexplored potential applications in various technological areas such as aerospace, energy, automobile, medicine, or chemical industry, in which they can be used as gas adsorbents, templates, actuators, composite reinforcements, catalyst supports, probes, chemical sensors, nanopipes, nano-reactors etc. In this paper, recent research on carbon nanotube composites are reviewed. The interfacial bonding properties, mechanical performance, electrical percolation of nanotube/polymer and ceramic are also reviewed.

Abstract: In present paper, an investigation has been made on the fluctuating flow of a non-Newtonian second grade fluid through a porous medium over a semi-infinite porous plate in presence of a transverse magnetic field B0. The governing equations have been solved analytically and the expressions for the velocity and stress fields are obtained. The free stream velocity U(t) fluctuates in time about a non-zero constant mean. The effects of the permeability parameter K and magnetic field parameter M on velocity field have been analyzed quantitatively with the help of figures. It is noticed that the velocity field asymptotically approaches free stream velocity as it goes far away from the plate.
Antimicrobial activity of Acanthus ilicifolius(L.)

Abstract: The antimicrobial activity of alcoholic, butanolic and chloroform extracts of leaves and roots of the plant Acanthus ilicifolius ware studied. Ampicillin and clotrimazole were used as standard antibacterial and antifungal agents respectively. The result of the study revealed that the alcoholic extract and chloroform extract of leaves exhibited strong inhibitory action against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus niger and moderate inhibitory action against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus vulgaris. The rest of the extracts showed moderate activity.
Effect of Industrial Sludge Application on Soil Nitrogen and Wheat Plant Response  [PDF]

Abstract: Wazirpur industrial area of Delhi generates a huge quantity of sludge per day, which is highly acidic in nature (pH 2.7 to 4.4) and contains macronutrients, micronutrients as well as toxic metals. A pot-culture experiment was conducted by taking the two soils (JNU and Chhattarpur) amended with sludge (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%), pretreated with lime (0%, 0.5% and 1%). Two wheat seedlings were planted per pot containing 3 kg sludge amended or control soil and the experiment was carried out till harvesting (four months) in a glass house. Lime treatments enhanced the N content in wheat plant in almost all cases. Sludge and lime treatments enhanced dry weight in wheat plants grown in Chhattarpur soil and dry weight increased with time. Maximum growth was observed in 0.5 lime treated and 20% sludge amended soils. But we have to take an account about any kind of metal toxicity before disposal of this waste to land.
