Abstract: During the period that corresponds to the mixing dentition, great alterations in the dental archs occur. It is observed that it is an intense phase in the children’s growth and some alterations of normality can happen. Therefore, it is the odontopediatrician’s duty to diagnose and treat, whenever possible, the morphological and functional alterations which are characteristic of the dentition development. The purpose of this research was to evaluate, through clinical exam of a random sample of 495 children from 7 to 9 years of age, resident in Londrina – Pr., the most frequent characteristics observed in the mixing dentition period. The results showed: presence of open bite, anterior cross bite, posterior cross bite, antero-inferior and antero-superior crowding, and different face standards. The results were elaborated through graphs, illustrating the prevalence percentage of the characteristics that were found in this research. It can be concluded that innumerable alterations occur in this phase which is not static, but dynamic.
