The Romanians’ Preferences for Life Insurance and Optional Private Pension Products. A Regional Analysis
Ingrid Mihaela Dragota,Bogdan-Vasile Ileanu
Romanian Journal of Regional Science , 2011,
Abstract: In an international context, Romania had a special position, with both positive and negative aspects in its evolution. Even during a crisis period, starting with 2008, Romania life insurance penetration rate had a continuous growing trend, but it has lagged behind other countries, from Europe or from other continents. The statistics for Romania proved that more steps must be done, primarily in terms of people’s mentality to recognize the usefulness of this sector. Based on our field research of 870 respondents in a nationally representative statistical survey of urban environment in Romania, a binary logit model identified the age, the education level, income per capita and gender as predictors for the probability a life insurance policy to be chosen against an optional private pension. Different result between regions suggests as adequate a regional approach in future management plans regarding life insurance penetration
INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL COMPONENTS AS CAUSES OF REGIONAL DISPARITIES. A CASE STUDY IN ROMANIA
Bogdan-Vasile Ileanu,Alexandru Isaic-Maniu,Claudiu Herteliu
Romanian Journal of Regional Science , 2009,
Abstract: Starting from a Logit model developed in the past we try to provide empirical support for counties disparities regarding intellectual capital factor influence. The study presents some correlation between economic performance, structure of activity in the county and intellectual components: human capital, organizational capital and customer capital. Because of various differences between counties we may consider that specific models are more indicated to analyze local behaviour. Also the results can give important information about association of counties by factor development and can also show the gaps between administrative organization forms with main purpose: a future more efficient investment and development.
THE CURRENT STATE AND DYNAMICS OF REGIONAL DISPARITIES IN ROMANIA
Zizi Goschin,Daniela-L. Constantin,Monica Roman,Bogdan-Vasile Ileanu
Romanian Journal of Regional Science , 2008,
Abstract: The paper aims to highlight the dynamics and current state of regional disparities in Romania, discussing both inter-regional disparities -between the eight development regions, corresponding tothe NUTS II level- and intra-regional disparities -between the counties (corresponding to theNUTS III level) included in each region. The analysis of regional disparities has been based on aseries of data and indicators provided by Romanian official statistics for 2000 and 2005, processedby various statistical methods. We constructed a new variant of the relative distances rankingmethod adapted to the objective of our study, so as to make it possible to measure simultaneouslythe intra and inter-regional disparities. Based on a multidimensional index of inequality, the 41Romanian counties plus Bucharest municipality have been ranked and included into four majordevelopment categories, according to their relative position in economic development. Gini index,Herfindahl index and Theil index have been also employed, showing a low level of concentration, which suggests a relatively low amplitude of both inter-regional and intra-regional disparities.
THE ESTIMATION OF DIMENSION AND FACTORS OF SCHOOL ABANDON
Tudorel ANDREI,Alina PROFIROIU,Andreea Iluzia IACOB,Bogdan-Vasile ILEANU
Revista Roman? de Statistic? , 2011,
Abstract: During the transition period, in Romania, the dimension of school abandon had risen. The main goals of the study are: to estimate the school abandon rate by each educational level in Romania, to identify the factors which affect school abandon on urban and rural areas and at development regions level; to analyze the causes of earlier school abandon. In the same time, the analysis had also followed the temporal component, by including in the database the last decade statistical information. The school abandon was measured as the difference between the numbers of pupils/students found at the end of the school year and the same category enrolled at the beginning of the same year.
Non-negative global weak solutions for a degenerate parabolic system modeling thin films driven by capillarity
Bogdan-Vasile Matioc
Mathematics , 2011,
Abstract: We prove global existence of nonnegative weak solutions for a strongly coupled, fourth order degenerate parabolic system governing the motion of two thin fluid layers in a porous medium when capillarity is the sole driving mechanism.
Recovery of Stokes waves from velocity measurements on an axis of symmetry
Bogdan-Vasile Matioc
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We provide a new method to recover the profile of Stokes waves, and more generally of waves with smooth vorticity, from measurements of the horizontal velocity component on a vertical axis of symmetry of the wave surface. Although we consider periodic waves only, the extension to solitary waves is straightforward.
A characterization of the symmetric steady water waves in terms of the underlying flow
Bogdan-Vasile Matioc
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: In this paper we present a characterization of the symmetric rotational periodic gravity water waves of finite depth and without stagnation points in terms of the underlying flow. Namely, we show that such a wave is symmetric and has a single crest and trough per period if and only if there exists a vertical line within the fluid domain such that all the fluid particles located on that line minimize there simultaneously their distance to the fluid bed as they move about. Our analysis uses the moving plane method, sharp elliptic maximum principles, and the principle of analytic continuation.
A gradient flow approach to a thin film approximation of the Muskat problem
Philippe Laurencot,Bogdan-Vasile Matioc
Mathematics , 2011, DOI: 10.1007/s00526-012-0520-5
Abstract: A fully coupled system of two second-order parabolic degenerate equations arising as a thin film approximation to the Muskat problem is interpreted as a gradient flow for the 2-Wasserstein distance in the space of probability measures with finite second moment. A variational scheme is then set up and is the starting point of the construction of weak solutions. The availability of two Liapunov functionals turns out to be a central tool to obtain the needed regularity to identify the Euler-Lagrange equation in the variational scheme.
Hele-Shaw flow in thin threads: A rigorous limit result
Bogdan-Vasile Matioc,Georg Prokert
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: We rigorously prove the convergence of appropriately scaled solutions of the 2D Hele-Shaw moving boundary problem with surface tension in the limit of thin threads to the solution of the formally corresponding Thin Film equation. The proof is based on scaled parabolic estimates for the nonlocal, nonlinear evolution equations that arise from these problems.
Non-negative global weak solutions for a degenerated parabolic system approximating the two-phase Stokes problem
Joachim Escher,Bogdan-Vasile Matioc
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: We establish the existence of non-negative global weak solutions for a strongly couple degenerated parabolic system which was obtained as an approximation of the two-phase Stokes problem driven solely by capillary forces. Moreover, the system under consideration may be viewed as a two-phase generalization of the classical Thin Film equation.
