Monopoly and Economic Efficiency: Perspective from an Efficiency Wage Model  [PDF]

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to analyze the efficiency consequences of monopoly from the perspective of an efficiency-wage model based on Shapiro and Stiglitz (1984). An important innovation of our model is that a firm can raise the probability that a shirking worker is detected by increasing its effort or investment in the monitoring of workers. By comparing with the competitive equilibrium we find that monopoly is associated with higher unemployment rate and less monitoring. Surprisingly, however, monopoly is not necessarily dominated by perfect competition in terms of economic efficiency.

Abstract: This paper explores the empirical relationship between unemployment rate and product market competition in eighteen OECD countries through three sets of quantitative analyses. We find that the effect of competition on employment depends on the existing competition intensity and the relationship between the unemployment and competition appears to be inverted-N shape—in countries where existing competition intensity is either high or low, an increase in competition tends to reduce unemployment rate significantly; but for countries where existing competition intensity is moderate, intensified competition is more likely to increase unemployment rate significantly.

Abstract: In industry development strategy of electric vehicles, apart from concerns on the development of electric vehicles, we also need to consider the issue of charging facilities construction. Firstly, through analysis, this paper discusses the importance of AC charging points for electric vehicle development. By studying existing AC charging points on the market, it presents a low-cost smart AC charging system to reduce the cost investigated by power companies and operational bodies when laying of a large number of AC charging points. Compared with the conventional one, the proposed system has prominent features of low cost, small footprint and low investment.

In this paper, several existence results of multiple positive solutions are obtained for a boundary value problem with p-Laplacian, by applying a fixed point theorem in cones. The interesting point is that the nonlinear term f is involved with the first-order derivative explicitly.

Predicting the Growth in Tree Height for Building Sunshine in Residential District  [PDF]

Abstract: Residential greening constitutes a significant portion of the urban environment. Trees, as the largest entities in the tree-shrub-herb greening system, are the best choice for residential afforestation. Hence, tree arrangement in green space between buildings is significant, for which may exert negative impact on building sunshine. This study takes He Qingyuan residential area in Beijing as a case study to predict the growth in tree height between buildings to meet good sunshine requirements. The procedures were draw as follows: 1) models including building layout and trees were built using computer-aided design (Auto CAD). Afterwards, according to tree crown shape, tree height limits were determined for the same building layout; 2) and after that, the growth in tree height was predicted using the nonlinear height-diameter functions to meet the good sunshine requirements. The results allow us to determine which trees to plant between buildings in that the designers can predict the effects of future tree growth on building sunshine.

Abstract: The vacuum is not a state of empty space, but is populated by electromagnetic fluctuations at a lowest nonzero level, the Zero Point Energy (ZPE). As distinguished from conventional theories, such as that of the Standard Model, the present revised quantum electrodynamic theory (RQED) includes the ZPE in its field equations. This leads to new results far beyond those obtained from conventional theories such as those by Dirac and Higgs. Thus, the present theory results in massive elementary particles from the beginning, being independent of the theory by Higgs. This paper describes the background and results of RQED, summarizing the weak points of conventional theories, the unification of included fundamental concepts, the present basic field equations, new obtained results, and special points of experimental support. In other words, the new points stressed in this paper are in particular the relation between a nonzero electric field divergence in the vacuum and the ZPE, and a number of new experimentally supported results due to a nonzero ZPE energy density in the same state.

Abstract: Since the establishment of China’s capital market, it has been imperfect. Many listed companies misappropriating the capital market, and some of them want to expand the size through the capital market. It seems that enhance corporate value is impossible, too. However, companies want bigger and stronger cannot do without a strong leverage of the capital market, and enterprises to enhance their value can be counterproductive in the capital markets, improve the efficiency of capital markets. This paper analyzes Kangmei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, and the relationship between its financing and value growth in the Chinese capital market, research results exist mutually reinforcing mechanisms between capital market efficiency and core competitiveness of enterprises.

Abstract: Both theory and experiments indicate that the vacuum is not a state of empty space, but is populated by electromagnetic fluctuations at a lowest nonzero level, the Zero Point Energy (ZPE). This debouches into considerable changes of fundamental physics, as shown by a revised quantum electrodynamic theory (RQED) applied to elementary particles, and by a revised ZPE frequency spectrum applied to the expanding universe. The Standard Model based on a vacuum state of empty space is thus replaced by RQED, thereby resulting in massive elementary particles from the beginning, independently of the theory by Higgs. Also the basic properties of the Higgs-like particle detected at CERN can be reproduced by RQED. It further leads to new fundamental results beyond the theories by Dirac and Higgs, such as to a deduced value of the elementary net charge, magnetic confinement of charged particle configurations, intrinsic local particle charges, photon spin with a very small but nonzero photon rest mass, and needle-like particle-wave properties which contribute to the understanding of the photoelectric effect and two-slit experiments. The real macroscopic pressure due to the revised ZPE frequency distribution further influences the dynamics of the expanding universe, by the ZPE photon pressure gradient acting as dark energy, and the ZPE photon energy density acting as dark matter. This results in a model being consistent with the observed scale, the rate of expansion, and the stability of a flat expanding observable universe.
Moisture Control Methods in Silk Reeling Process of Tobacco Based on the Random Forest Regression  [PDF]

Abstract: The moisture control of materials in silk reeling technology of tobacco is regarded as the key factor influencing the inner quality of cigarette. In this paper, according to the statistical data of the silk reeling production line of Yunyan (Ruanzhen brand) of Qujing cigarette factory from June 2013 to May 2014, it is feasible to apply the random forest regression model to study the problem of moisture control theoretically. In the perfuming stage of silk reeling, a random forest regression model is established to describe the change of moisture content of finished cut tobacco in the export link of perfuming stage, aroused by several factors including incoming water content and different environment. According to the model, good moisture control in the export link of perfuming stage (accordance with the technological standards) can be realized by adjusting the regulating reference value of incoming moisture under specific workshop environments. In the drying stage of silk reeling, the most effective method of moisture control is to adjust the cylinder wall temperature by means of analyzing the correlation coefficients among variables which influence the moisture content of cut tobacco in the export link of drying stage and then establishing another random forest regression model. And this method is consistent with the traditional production experiences. In conclusion, these methods referred above provide strong theoretical basis for stable moisture control in the export link of perfuming stage.

Abstract: A theory elaborated by the author on revised quantum electrodynamics (RQED) is elucidated in a condensed form on special important points. The latter concerns the basic electromagnetic field equations in a vacuum state, the connection of this state with the Zero Point Energy (ZPE), the procedure of quantization, steady states of particle models, the concept of the individual photon, and examples on experimental support of the theory.
