A Function Equation Related to the Pseudo Smarandache Function

Abstract: First of all, this paper studied the properties of the well-known F. Smarandache function S(n) , then studied the positive integer solutions of a new function equation Z(n) + S*(n) - 1 = kn, k≥1 involving both of the Pseudo Smarandache function and the dual Smarandache function. Used the elementary number theory and combinational method while the property of the Pseudo Smarandache function Z(n) , a new equation was made easily. As a result, all positive integer solutions are given for the equation, that was the equation hold if and only if solution n = 1 when k = 1, and if k = 2, it hold solutions n = 2, a≥1, it was no solution if k3 So, all the positive integer solutions of this new function equation was solved completely.
Colliding Plane Wave Solutions in String theory Revisited

Abstract: We construct the colliding plane wave solutions in the higher-dimensional gravity theory with fluxes and dilaton, with a more general ansatz on the metric. We consider two classes of solutions to the equations of motions and after imposing the junction conditions we find that they are all physically acceptable. In particular, we manage to obtain the higher-dimensional Bell-Szekeres solutions in the Maxwell-Einstein gravity theory, and the flux-CPW solutions in the eleven-dimensional supergravity theory. All the solutions have been shown to develop the late time curvature singularity.
Probing the gravitational Faraday rotation using quasar X-ray microlensing

Abstract: The effect of gravitational Faraday rotation was predicted in the 1950s, but there is currently no practical method for measuring this effect. Measuring this effect is important because it will provide new evidence for correctness of general relativity, in particular, in the strong field limit. We predict that the observed degree and angle of the X-ray polarization of a cosmologically distant quasar microlensed by the random star field in a foreground galaxy or cluster lens vary rapidly and concurrently with flux during caustic-crossing events using the first simulation of quasar X-ray microlensing polarization light curves. Therefore, it is possible to detect gravitational Faraday rotation by monitoring the X-ray polarization of gravitationally microlensed quasars. Detecting this effect will also confirm the strong gravity nature of quasar X-ray emission.

Abstract: Phytosterols are a group of steroids alcohols which had been regarded as a functional factor. An unknown compound in phytosterol samples and phytosterol standard samples was detected by HPLC using symmetry C18 column. The quan- tity of the compound was increased with the enrichment of β-sitosterol. After being collected and analyzed by GC-MS and compared with standard diagram from Wiley and Nist standard chart library, it proved to be γ-sitosterol, a 24β epimer of β-sitosterol.
The Different Effect of R and S Albuterol on Proliferation and Migration of Airway Smooth Muscle Cells  [PDF]

Abstract: studies have shown that the R- and S-enantiomers of racemic albuterol, a β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used in asthma treatment, have differential effects on the contractile properties of airway smooth muscle. However, the effect of albuterol on the proliferation and migration has never been tested. Since (R)-, but not (S)-albuterol enhances bronchodilation, we expect the two racemic isomers would also affect proliferation and migration of tracheal cells differentially. By monitoring migratory properties of airway smooth muscle cells in the presence of albuterol isomers, the different effect of albuterol on proliferation and migration of airway smooth muscle cells is probed. The results show Both of R- and S-albuterol could inhibit the proliferation of smooth muscle cells and the inhibition ratio of these two isomers had no significant difference; R-albuterol, but not S-albuterol, inhibited cell migration.
A Flexible Bandwidth Reservation Framework for Bulk Data Transfers in Grid Networks

Abstract: In grid networks, distributed resources are interconnected by wide area network to support compute and data-intensive applications, which require reliable and efficient transfer of gigabits (even terabits) of data. Different from best-effort traffic in Internet, bulk data transfer in grid requires bandwidth reservation as a fundamental service. Existing reservation schemes such as RSVP are designed for real-time traffic specified by reservation rate, transfer start time but with unknown lifetime. In comparison, bulk data transfer requests are defined in terms of volume and deadline, which provide more information, and allow more flexibility in reservation schemes, i.e., transfer start time can be flexibly chosen, and reservation for a single request can be divided into multiple intervals with different reservation rates. We define a flexible reservation framework using time-rate function algebra, and identify a series of practical reservation scheme families with increasing generality and potential performance, namely, FixTime-FixRate, FixTime-FlexRate, FlexTime-FlexRate, and Multi-Interval. Simple heuristics are used to select representative scheme from each family for performance comparison. Simulation results show that the increasing flexibility can potentially improve system performance, minimizing both blocking probability and mean flow time. We also discuss the distributed implementation of proposed framework.

Abstract: A continuous melt suspension crystallization process has been presented for the purification of the phosphoric acid in this study, which is performed in the cascade of a mixed suspension mixed product removal (MSMPR) crystallizer and a gravity wash column for the subsequent solid-liquid separation. Dynamic behavior in the crystallizer and role of reflux ration on the purification efficiency of column are studied in detail. A reasonable steady state with respect to the liquid phase is achieved after 2 to 3 hrs, which is followed by a solid-phase steady state in terms of the slurry density after 4 hrs. Reflux ratio is the effective parameter for separation and purification by the crystallization equipment from the influences of reflux ratio on the purity of product, the number of theoretical plates and the stability of the operations.
