Standarization and optimization of micromeretic properties of nimesulide for processing into a tablet dosage form by crystalo-co-agglomeration technology

Abstract: The present study was undertaken to prepare direct compressible tablets of nimesulide by altering its physical properties with the help of the method crystallo-co-agglomeration technology. Nimesulide is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs type of drug and is very useful in the treatment of arthritis. Because of its poor flowability character, tablets of nimesulide cannot be prepared by direct compression. An attempt has been taken to improve the tableting property by altering the micromeretic properties, like flow rate, Carr index, Hausner ratio and angle of repose. Conformation of improvement of compressibility and other processing problems was studied by Heckel analysis and Kawakita constant using a hydraulic press under a pressure of 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 tonnes for 10 s. The tablets were prepared by direct compression of nimesulide agglomerates using two different types of polymers, polyethelene glycol (PEG6000) and ethyl cellulose (EC) in different ratios (50, 100 and 200 mg). The drug release shows different patterns for the various percentages of PEG and EC.
Banter: An Alternative Strategy in Creating a Learning Community  [PDF]

Abstract: In this qualitative study we investigated the role of bantering in creating a learning community for science education. The curriculum was centered on a technology-integrated Project Based Approach (PBA). We examined the pattern of in-service teachers’ interaction with such a learning environment and perceptions of their future instructional practices that result from collaborative reflection on the use of Banter throughout the semester. The findings suggest that exposure to bantering interaction not only helped the in-service teachers to make decisions about the scientific issues they will face in the future but also helped to construct a more inquiry based understanding of the issues in science teaching. Methodological limits and possibilities were explored through the use of data analysis software such as Inspiration and NVivo.

Abstract: A semi-empirical analytical model of Si/SixGe1-x, GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs and GaN/AlxGa1-xN resonant tunneling diode (RTD) is presented in this paper. Transmission coefficient (Tc) is an important factor for determining the performance of a resonant tunneling diode. Variation of transmission coefficient with electron energy and other device parameters are predicted with the help of this model. Comparison of performance characteristics of these three devices are made for different barrier width and well width in presence and absence of applied electric field using transfer matrix method.

Abstract: A 45 year-old male presented with cough and expectoration for 8 months, short-ness of breath and wheeze for 3 months, and fever for 1 month. He remained symptomatic despite repeated courses of antibiotics with partial relief on oral and inhaled bronchodilators. Despite several sputum examinations being negative for acid fast bacilli (AFB), he was put on anti-tubercular drugs (ATD) because of bi-lateral infiltrates on his chest radiographs. A mildly raised blood eosinophil count, eosinophilia in broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) fluid and eosinophilic infiltration on CT guided FNAC from his lung lesion raised the suspicion and the dramatic clinico-radiological improvement with oral corticosteroids clinched the diagnosis of CEP.

Abstract: In the present study, skin biopsies were analysed for histopathological (HP) changes in 22 patients with various granulomatous dermatoses. In 6 specimens, HP features were diagnostic of BT leprosy, in 1 each of BB, BL and historid LL. The HP features were was lupus valugaris (LV) in 6 biopsies, tuberculosis verrucosa cutis (TBVC) in 2, sarcoidosis in 3 and sporotrichosis in remaining 2. The study reiterated the usefulness of HP examination of all suspected cases of granulomatous skin diseases.

Abstract: Organeller proteomics is an emerging technology that is critical in determining the cellular signal transduction pathways. Nucleus, the regulatory hub of the eukaryotic cell is a dynamic system and a repository of various macromolecules that serve as modulators of such signaling that dictate cell fate decisions. Nuclear proteins (NPs) are predicted to comprise about 10–20% of the total cellular proteins, suggesting the involvement of the nucleus in a number of diverse functions. Indeed, NPs constitute a highly organized but complex network that plays diverse roles during development and physiological processes. In plants, relatively little is known about the nature of the molecular components and mechanisms involved in coordinating NP synthesis, their action and function. Proteomic study hold promise to understand the molecular basis of nuclear function using an unbiased comparative and differential approach. We identified a few hundred proteins that include classical and non-canonical nuclear components presumably associated with variety of cellular functions impinging on the complexity of nuclear proteome. Here, we review the nuclear proteome based on our own findings, available literature, and databases focusing on detailed comparative analysis of NPs and their functions in order to understand how plant nucleus works. The review also shed light on the current status of plant nuclear proteome and discusses the future prospect.
