Abstract: Herbal medicines have good efficacy, safety, and lesser side effects. They have great demand in developed world for primary health care. India has rich traditional knowledge, heritage of herbal medicines and large biodiversity but despite it India has dismal share of world market. Many Pharma companies marketed herbal preparation as neutraceutical and took excuses from quality control parameter set by W.H.O. India has thousands of medicinal plants but in Indian Pharmacopoeia. Quercetin, one of the most abundant natural flavonoids, presents in daily food. Quercetin is of interest because of its pharmacological function. The quantitative determination of flavonoids compound in seeds of Elaeocarpus ganitrus was carried out in high performance thin layer chromatography. Concentration of quercetin in Elaeocarpus ganitrus seeds was calculated based on calibration curve.

Abstract:

Objective: To evaluate the role of chromohysteroscopy in improving diagnostic accuracy of endometrial biopsy in cases of AUB. Design: Cross sectional interventional study. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 60 women with AUB in Dept. of Obst. & Gyne at King George Medical University, Lucknow over a period of one year. All cases underwent diagnostic hysteroscopy followed by chromohysteroscopy using 2% methylene blue dye. Hysteroscopic guided biopsy was taken from stained and unstained areas followed by an endometrial aspiration biopsy from whole uterine cavity. The histopathology results of three samples were compared and analyzed in relation with staining pattern and type of AUB. Data analysis was done on SPSS version 15 of windows 2007. Results: Out of 60 cases, 11cases were found to have non hormonal pathology after chromohysterosopic biopsy. Eight (72.72%) cases were diagnosed by stained endometrial tissue, one (9.09%) by unstained tissue and three (27.27%) by endometrial aspiration. The diagnostic ability of stained tissue biopsy was significantly higher (p = 0.006) than unstained biopsy and endometrial aspiration. Conclusion: Chromohysteroscopy is a simple and effective technique for diagnosing endometrial pathology in cases of AUB.

Can Non-Polio Enteroviruses Be Tamed with a Vaccine to Minimize Paralysis Caused by Them?  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: While we are inching towards global eradication of polio, the paralysis due to non-polio viruses (NPEV) poses greater challenge. Factors responsible for causing Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) were studied in 3596 AFP patients in 64 districts of Uttar-Pradesh, India, to observe indirect relationship of AFP with wild polio as well as NPEV. A recent study suggests the need to investigate polio virus negative but NPEV positive AFP cases. Methods: The lab results of the stool samples of these children were line listed and analysed to observe the association of various factors with respect to presence of paralysis on 60 follow-up days. Taking zero OPV dose AFP cases as a biological base, we studied the relationship of presence of paralysis at 60 follow-up days to that of presence of NPEV in stool samples while polio virus was present or absent. Results: 70 of the 86 AFP cases (81%) with zero OPV dose and having only NPEV isolated in stool samples were having paralysis at 60 follow-up days. There were 4.54% (162) AFP cases, which did not carry any polio virus but were having NPEV isolated in the stool samples and paralysis at 60 follow-up days. 79% (75/95) of zero OPV dose children, who were having residual weakness at 60 follow-up days, were carrying both polio virus as well as NPEV in their stool samples. Total AFP cases, having residual weakness at 60 follow-up days and having NPEV in stool samples, decreased with increase in OPV doses; a behavior similar to what wild polio viruses (WPV) have to OPV. Conclusions: Maybe polio like NPEV is active for causing severe paralysis in children and is responding to the OPV. As is evident in the studies by M. Margalith, B. Fattal et al. [1] that there is an antibody response to the enteroviruses, we can think of coming out with a vaccine against the enteroviruses. Therefore, enterovirus vaccine can be produced on similar lines to that of OPV, as now we have enough isolates of NPEV. Effective NPEV surveillance system also needs to be in place.
Necessary Optimality Conditions for Multi-Objective Semi-Infinite Variational Problem  [PDF]
Bharti Sharma, Promila Kumar
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2016.61006
Abstract:

In this paper, necessary optimality conditions for a class of Semi-infinite Variational Problems are established which are further generalized to a class of Multi-objective Semi-Infinite Variational Problems. These conditions are responsible for the development of duality theory which is an extremely important feature for any class of problems, but the literature available so far lacks these necessary optimality conditions for the stated problem. A lemma is also proved to find the topological dual of \"\"?as it is required to prove the desired result.

Abstract: Ferrocyanides of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) were synthesized and characterized by IR spectra, magnetic susceptibility, thermal gravimetric analysis, elemental analysis and X ray diffraction studies. Antimicrobial potential of these complexes have been evaluated. Antifungal screening of these complexes has been carried out against Mycogone perniciosa and Verticillium fungicola causing wet and dry bubble diseases of button mushroom respectively. Nickel ferrocyanide has been found to be most effective against Mycogone perniciosa with 60% inhibitory effect while cadmium ferrocyanide has exhibited significant potential of 85% against Verticillium fungicola.
The Problem with Defining Terrorism and the Impact on Civil Liberties – Britain is Beginning to Create a Monster with Large Claws, Sharp Teeth and a Fierce Temper?

Journal of Politics and Law , 2009, DOI: 10.5539/jpl.v1n2p2
Abstract: After the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centre in 2001, the United States reacted by enacting legislation, that was hoped would fight terrorism. The events of September 11 not only caused great distress and shock to many people but the reverberations across the world caused panic. The threat of terrorism has mainly come from small groups of people regarded as “extremists” or “fanatics” pursuing political, ideological and social goals. Few of us will forget the horrific pictures of the Twin Towers collapsing amidst the dust and carnage or the grotesque television images and telephone conversations on board the doomed aircraft. So began ‘The war on terror’ and the challenge for western democracy who now have the unenviable responsibility to safeguard national security and liberty. It does appear that counter terror policy has become instinctive and not well though out. This article will examine the changes faced by the new Terrorism Act with the notion of civil liberties and innocence.

Abstract: Secondary syphilis has become a rare entity after the advent of Penicillin, but with the arrival of HIV on scene cases can be seen again. Here is a young newly wed who presented with these lesions, syphilis was confirmed by VDRL and TPHA (positive in high dilutions). Thanks to Penicillin, after only three weeks of Benzathine Penicillin 2.4 mega units every week, after test dose with C-Pen, the lesions disappeared.
An Edge Detection Algorithm based on Fuzzy Logic
Shikha Bharti
International Journal of Engineering Trends and Technology , 2013,
Abstract: Edges characterize boundaries and are therefore considered for prime importance in image processing. Edge detection filters out useless data, noise and frequencies while preserving the important structural properties in an image. The proposed method adopts fuzzy reasoning in order to extract edges. Here the scanning of an image using the windowing technique takes place which is subjected to a set of fuzzy conditions. A 2*2 scanning mask is used and the Fuzzy inference system designed has four inputs, which corresponds to four pixels of the scanning matrix, one output that tells whether the pixel under consideration is “edge” or “nonedge” pixel. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a fuzzy inference system in edge detection. The results for images with high contrast variation are compared to those obtained with the linear Sobel operator

Abstract: Children feel stress long before they grow up. Many children have to cope with family conflict, divorce, constant changes in schools, neighbourhood and child care arrangements, peer pressure and sometimes even violence in their homes or communities. The impact of a stressor depends on the academic achievement of students. It is the stress which does not allow students to perform well in classroom situation, the study objectives The objectives tested in this part of the study are as under 1. To study the differences in scores of academic achievement between the students possessing different levels of stress belonging to different socio-economic status and sex. 2. To study the nature of interaction between stress and socio-economic status, stress and sex, and among stress, socioeconomic status and sex when academic achievement was taken as a dependent variable. The study reveals that students belonging to High Socio-economic Status are academically sound as compared to their counterparts while as when male and female students compared together they have an equal chance of being academically sound or poor. This reveals that when stress and sex, and SES and Sex taken jointing they do effect on dependent variable i.e. academic achievement.
