Chemical composition of teas from two cultivated chemotypes of Egletes viscosa ("Macela-da-terra")

Abstract: phytochemical analysis of flower buds infusion from two cultivated chemotypes of egletes viscosa less was accomplished. the new diterpene 12-acetoxy-7-hydroxy-3,13(14)-clerodandien-18,19:15,16-diolide, ternatin, centipedic acid and 12-acetoxy-hawtriwaic lactone were isolated from the chemotype trans-pinocarveyl acetate. analysis of the chemotype cis-isopinocarveyl acetate yielded 12-acetoxy-7-hydroxy-3,13(14)-clerodandien-18,19:15,16 -diolide, 12-epi-bacchotricuneatin, ternatin and scopoletin. structural elucidation of the isolated compounds was established on the basis of spectral data through the use of 1d nmr and several 2d shift correlated nmr pulse sequences and comparison with literature data.

Abstract: the influence of harvesting date and the effects of drying on the physiological quality of macela seeds was evaluated. the harvesting dates of 93; 100; 107; 114; 121; 128 and 135 days after transplanting (dat) were evaluated. half volume of the harvested seeds was taken to a dryer (40oc for 72 h), while the other half was packed in plastic bags and stored in a cold room (20oc) during the same period. a complete randomized design in a 2 x 7 factorial, with four repetitions, was used. the seeds reached the physiological maturity about 121-128 dat. the drying process had no influence on the macela seeds physiologic quality.

Abstract: to compensate the shortage of information on the influence of seed weight and substrate over the germination and seedling development of moringa oleifera an experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions (50% of natural light with intermittent nebulization) in fortaleza, ceará state, brazil. the treatments consisted of a 3x3 factorial arrangement [three seed weights: heavy (272.41 g/1000 seeds); medium (218.88 g/1000 seeds) and light (177.07 g/1000 seeds) and three substrates: vermiculite; plantmax? and a v/v 2:1:1 mixture based on sterilized soil (s) plus earthworm humus (h) and washed powdered coconut peels (pcp), respectively] disposed on an entirely randomized design with four repetitions (24 seeds/repetition). the three seed classes were sown in isopor trays with 72 cells containing the respective substrate. the percentage, rate and average time for germination; height and dry weight of total and aerial parts of the seedling were measured. heavy and medium seeds presented a higher percentage and rate of germination than light seeds; heavy seeds yielded more vigorous seedlings; the commercial substrate plantmax? and the mixture (s+h+pcp) allowed a higher percentage and germination rate than vermiculite; the seedlings showed a better development on the commercial substrate plantmax?.

Abstract: Determinou-se o ponto de maturidade fisiológica e o efeito da secagem em sementes de macela. Foram realizadas colheitas aos 93; 100; 107; 114; 121; 128 e 135 dias após o transplante (DAT). Após cada colheita, uma amostra foi levada ao secador (40oC/72 h) e a outra foi embalada em saco plástico, em uma camara (20oC) pelo mesmo período. Utilizou-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2x7, correspondendo aos dois níveis de secagem (sem e com) e sete épocas de colheita, com quatro repeti es. As sementes atingiram a maturidade fisiológica de 121-128 dias após o transplante; e a secagem n o influenciou a qualidade fisiológica das sementes de macela.

Abstract: a new labdane glycoside, 8a-hydroxylabd-14(15)-ene-13(s)-o-b-d-ribopyranoside, was isolated from the aerial parts of egletes viscosa less, along with 13-epi-sclareol, barbatol, tarapacol, spinasterol, ternatin and triacontane. the structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by the use of spectrometric methods and preparation of chemical derivatives.

Abstract: in the field of the science information, even facing the advances around the ethic discussions, of social responsibility, little has been discussed about the internet and social virtual nets from an ethic perspective. in the text, the main objective makes a reflection about the orkut, with the virtual and informational context. we cannot be said safely, that we know all the ethic, politic, and cultural consequences of this informational environment in the reality. this text aims to generate a reflection from the following a question: one virtual and informational context (in our case, the orkut) can be news epistemological bases for the information science? the concepts of informa??o, liberty and information, sociability and identity, we answer this question.

Abstract: due to the threat of extinction of amburana cearensis, a tree of medicinal importance for the northeastern brazil, a phytochemical analysis was performed with specimens obtained by seed germination. ten compounds were isolated and identified by spectroscopic methods and comparison with literature data. p-hydroxybenzoic acid, ayapin, (e/z)-melilotosides are being reported for the first time for the genus, besides coumarin, isokaempferide, vanillic acid, protocatechuic acid, amburosides a and b which have already been found in the trunk bark. based on physical and nmr spectroscopy evidences the structures of several melilotosides already described in the literature have been suggested to be revised.
Theoretical impact of insecticide-impregnated school uniforms on dengue incidence in Thai children

Abstract: Background: Children carry the main burden of morbidity and mortality caused by dengue. Children spend a considerable amount of their day at school; hence strategies that reduce human–mosquito contact to protect against the day-biting habits of Aedes mosquitoes at schools, such as insecticide-impregnated uniforms, could be an effective prevention strategy. Methodology: We used mathematical models to calculate the risk of dengue infection based on force of infection taking into account the estimated proportion of mosquito bites that occur in school and the proportion of school time that children wear the impregnated uniforms. Principal findings: The use of insecticide-impregnated uniforms has efficacy varying from around 6% in the most pessimistic estimations, to 55% in the most optimistic scenarios simulated. Conclusions: Reducing contact between mosquito bites and human hosts via insecticide-treated uniforms during school time is theoretically effective in reducing dengue incidence and may be a valuable additional tool for dengue control in school-aged children. The efficacy of this strategy, however, is dependent on the compliance of the target population in terms of proper and consistent wearing of uniforms and, perhaps more importantly, the proportion of bites inflicted by the Aedes population during school time.
