This article aims to discuss culinary tourism as a strategy for the survival of old central markets, using two case studies: Mercado Central de Santiago (the Central Market of Santiago - Chile) and Mercado Municipal de S o Paulo (S o Paulo City Market, S o Paulo- Brazil). The theoretical approach used was a strategic practice arisen from practice of everyday life and experience. Such strategies were found to be in place through the means of social representations. It was believed that this would be the viable way, since two complex organizations comprehending several family organizations were under examination. These organizations are made of subjects who interact and who improve on their practices based on the inter-relations established within the common space of the markets. This article may therefore be regarded as having a descriptive-exploratory character, whose focus is the relationship between the subjects and the hegemonic media discourse with the purpose of obse

Abstract: this article aims to discuss culinary tourism as a strategy for the survival of old central markets, using two case studies: mercado central de santiago (the central market of santiago - chile) and mercado municipal de s?o paulo (s?o paulo city market, s?o paulo- brazil). the theoretical approach used was a strategic practice arisen from practice of everyday life and experience. such strategies were found to be in place through the means of social representations. it was believed that this would be the viable way, since two complex organizations comprehending several family organizations were under examination. these organizations are made of subjects who interact and who improve on their practices based on the inter-relations established within the common space of the markets. this article may therefore be regarded as having a descriptive-exploratory character, whose focus is the relationship between the subjects and the hegemonic media discourse with the purpose of observing the relationship between them concerning the representations surrounding the strategies implemented. to this end, a qualitative approach was used collecting data from observations made on the spot, newspapers' reports and semi-structured interviews, which were interpreted by the discourse analysis method. the strategic axis in place was clearly shown to be that of culinary tourism, however still explored in a little sustainable way, generating with plenty of conflicts. the result of this study is a firm belief that getting the subjects to systematically reflect upon the advantages and disadvantages of the tactics in place would provide for improved outcomes of the strategic practice in use.

Brand?o, Marilda Helena Toledo;Gontijo, Bernardo;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962012000200012
Abstract: metals, especially nickel, are the most common contact allergens in children. recent data has shown increased incidence of allergy in industrialized countries. sensitization can occur at any age, even in neonates. costume jewelry, particularly earrings, is linked to increased sensitization to nickel. sensitization to cobalt often occurs by the use of costume jewelry. the most common source of sensitization to chromium is leather. due to the absence of a specific therapy, the main treatment is to identify and avoid the responsible allergens. this article presents an updated view on the epidemiological and clinical aspects of contact allergy to metals, focusing on prevention strategies and risk factors, and warns about possible and new sources of contact.

Abstract: case reports are an old tradition in medical literature and, until the advent of more sophisticated study designs, they reigned as the one and only type of publication. in spite of their unquestionable qualities, case reports have lost part of their importance and prestige. some outstanding medical journals accept case reports only as letters to the editors or in the electronic version while others simply do not accept them at all. this article critically reviews the pros and cons of case reports and their importance in medical education. even in a medical world where evidence is a must, case reports can still play an important role.
Elastólise pós-inflamatória e cutis laxa (doen?a de James Marshall): estudo de casos
Aguilar, Claudemir Roberto;Gontijo, Bernardo;Vale, Everton Carlos Siviero do;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962007000400004
Abstract: background: although rare diseases, one third of all cases of post-inflammatory elastolysis and cutis laxa published in the international literature are from the state of minas gerais, in brazil. reports with long term follow-up of these patients are also scarce. objectives: to report nine cases observed from 1981 to 2004 and compare the findings with 20 cases described in the literature. methods: epidemiological, clinical, pathological and therapeutical variables were assessed. results: the onset of the disease is usually up to the age of four years (93%), and it is more common in african americans (8:1), females (4:1) and in tropical climate (9:1). other features include alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (7%), aortitis (7%), related skin conditions (62%), premature facial ageing (97%) and stable atrophic phase during childhood after months or years with inflammatory lesions (97%). biopsies of recent lesions showed a more intense inflammatory infiltrate and less elastolysis than those obtained from older lesions. reconstructive surgery yielded good results during atrophic phase and 0.05% topical tretinoin was ineffective. conclusions: in 62% of patients the acute phase of post-inflammatory elastolysis and cutis laxa is associated with different elastolysis-promoting inflammatoy dermatoses. the correct management of these conditions may reduce severity of atrophic lesions, which can also be treated by reconstructive surgery. alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency should be investigated.
Leishmaniose tegumentar americana

Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0037-86822003000100011
Abstract: american cutaneous leishmaniasis is endemic in widespread areas of latin america. the causative agents include l. (v.) braziliensis, l. (l.) mexicana, l. (v.) panamensis, and related species. the spectrum of disease includes single, localized, cutaneous ulcers, diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis, and mucosal disease.the main reservoirs for l. (v.) braziliensis and other leishmania (vianna) spp. are small forest rodents. the vectors are ground-dwelling or arboreal lutzomyia sandflies, which are abundant in the forest. disease is most common in persons working at the edge of the forest and among rural settlers. the incubation period of cutaneous leishmaniasis varies from two weeks to several months. a wide variety of skin manifestations ranging from small, dry, crusted lesions to large, deep, mutilating ulcers may be seen. ulcerative lesions are usually shallow and circular with well-defined, raised borders and a bed of granulation tissue. in l. (v.) braziliensis infection, regional lymphadenopathy often precedes the development of cutaneous lesions by one to 12 weeks. a definite diagnosis depends on the identification of amastigotes in tissue or promastigotes in culture. antileishmanial antibodies are present in the serum of some patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis as detected by elisa, immunofluorescent assays, direct agglutination tests or other assays, but the titers are usually low. the leishmanin skin test result usually becomes positive during the course of the disease. for treatment two pentavalent antimony-containing drugs are used: stibogluconate sodium, and meglumine antimoniate (glucantime). amphotericin b deoxycholate is an alternative for persons who fail to respond to pentavalent antimony. immunoprophylaxis and immunotherapy are promising new approaches to prevention and treatment.
