Clinics and Practice , 2011, DOI: 10.4081/cp.2011.e82
Abstract: Annular pancreas is a rare congenital abnormality. This entity can rarely be symptomatic. Patients can present with gastrointestinal obstruction or acute pancreatitis. We report a case with a rich iconography, of an annular pancreas discovered intraoperatively. A 46- year-old woman was operated with the diagnosis of acute cholecystitis with common bile duct stones. At operation, a strip of pancreatic tissue (2 cm) completely encircled the second duodenum. Open cholecytectomy with choledocotomy and stones extractionwas done. Postoperatively, she developed an acute pancreatitis. The post-operative cholangiography showed the annular duct surrounding the second duodenum. Annular pancreas is rare. Symptoms may occur in newborn children. In adults, annular pancreas discovering is radiological or intra operatively.
Pseudo-tumoral hepatic tuberculosis discovered after surgical resection
Miloudi Nizar,Mzoughi Zeineb,Ben Abid Sadri,Sabbagh Safa
Clinics and Practice , 2012, DOI: 10.4081/cp.2012.e27
Abstract: Pseudo-tumoral hepatic tuberculosis is rare. It is characterized by non-specific symptoms and radiological polymorphism. Diagnosis is problematic. This article presents three cases, each clinically different from each other, that illustrate how difficult diagnosis can be. The definitive diagnosis of pseudo-tumoral hepatic tuberculosis was reached on the basis of histological examination of surgical samples. Treatment of the disease based on appropriate anti-tubercular therapy generally gives a positive outcome.

The aim of this paper is to provide an estimation of the effectiveness of Web forums used for online learning. The study of the online learning platform that enables adult students to prepare the DAEU (diploma granting access to university or equivalent) at the university of Haute Alsace, provides us with information about this. The results of this research show that students who use discussion forums to post messages have higher success rates than those who do not.
Multifractal formalism for typical probability measures on self-similar sets
Moez Ben Abid
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: In this work, we investigate the H\"older spectrum of typical measures (in the Baire category sense) in a general compact set and we compute the multifractal spectrum of a typical measures supported by a self-similar set. Such mesures verify the multifractal formalism.
Dropping out: inefficiencies of online education. An analysis of the internal effectiveness of face to face learning, correspondence learning and e-learning in the context of the preparation of the DAEU diploma
Sandoss Ben Abid-Zarrouk
STICEF , 2010,
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate the effectiveness of e-learning. We have compared three populations of student who prepare a French diploma called “Dipl me d’Accès aux Etudes Universitaires” which will allow them to follow courses at the university. Three modalities of courses are offered to prepare this diploma: an online or an evening-class or a correspondence courses. The results from this research indicate that drop is a key factor in estimating the internal efficiency. The chances of successful of online courses student are lower more than twice compared to correspondence courses student. Thus, with this mode of instruction for this audience in particular and this diploma, the chances of success are lower. However, if we do not take into account drop, the online education is as effective as correspondence courses or “face-to-face” courses.
Clarifying the Language of Chance Using Basic Conditional Probability Reasoning: The Monty Hall Problem  [PDF]

Open Journal of Discrete Mathematics (OJDM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojdm.2012.24033
Abstract: Clarity and preciseness in the use of language is crucial when communicating mathematical and probabilistic ideas. Lack of these can make even the simplest problem difficult to understand and solve. One such problem is the Monty Hall problem. In the past, a controversy was stirred among professional mathematicians when trying to reach a consensus on a solution to the problem. The problem still creates confusion among some of those who are asked to solve it for the first time. We purport to demonstrate the use of more precise language of basic conditional probability could have prevented the controversy.
Selecting the Best Forecasting-Implied Volatility Model Using Genetic Programming
Wafa Abdelmalek,Sana Ben Hamida,Fathi Abid
Advances in Decision Sciences , 2009, DOI: 10.1155/2009/179230
Abstract: The volatility is a crucial variable in option pricing and hedging strategies. The aim of this paper is to provide some initial evidence of the empirical relevance of genetic programming to volatility's forecasting. By using real data from S&P500 index options, the genetic programming's ability to forecast Black and Scholes-implied volatility is compared between time series samples and moneyness-time to maturity classes. Total and out-of-sample mean squared errors are used as forecasting's performance measures. Comparisons reveal that the time series model seems to be more accurate in forecasting-implied volatility than moneyness time to maturity models. Overall, results are strongly encouraging and suggest that the genetic programming approach works well in solving financial problems.
HW/SW Partitioning Approach on Reconfigurable Multimedia System on Chip
Kais Loukil, Nader Ben Amor, Mohamed Abid
International Journal of Engineering , 2011,
Abstract: Due to the complexity and the high performance requirement of multimedia applications, thedesign of embedded systems is the subject of different types of design constraints such asexecution time, time to market, energy consumption, etc. Some approaches of jointsoftware/hardware design (Co-design) were proposed in order to help the designer to seek anadequacy between applications and architecture that satisfies the different design constraints. This paper presents a new methodology for hardware/software partitioning on reconfigurablemultimedia system on chip, based on dynamic and static steps. The first one uses the dynamicprofiling and the second one uses the design trotter tools. The validation of our approach is madethrough 3D image synthesis.

Nonlinear Adaptive Filters based on Particle Swarm Optimization
Faten BEN ARFIA,Mohamed BEN MESSAOUD,Mohamed ABID
Leonardo Journal of Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: This paper presents a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to adjust the parameters of the nonlinear filter and to make this type of the filters more powerful for the elimination of the Gaussian noise and also the impulse noise. In this paper we apply the particle swarm optimization to the rational filters and we completed this work with the comparison between our results and other adaptive nonlinear filters like the LMS adaptive median filters and the no-adaptive rational filter.
