Cultural indicators of tourism sustainability in Serbian spas

Abstract: This paper analyses cultural indicators, one of five groups of comparative indicators of sustainable tourism, defined and suggested to the European Commission by a team of experts. The group of cultural indicators includes indicators such as the ratio of accommodation capacities to the number of population, and tourism intensity and they show the level of preservation of local population identity. The statistical data from the last four census year were used in the analysis of cultural indicators of tourism sustainability in spa settlements in Serbia. The ratio of accommodation capacities to the number of local population can be defined as favourable in most spas (green zone), since there is no intensive tourist construction (apart from illegal construction), while the tourism intensity based on the example of Serbian spa settlements points at very unfavourable situation, since in all four census years the recorded, the results are in the red zone, i.e. on the one hand, there is a relatively low number of local population and on the other hand, there is a high number of overnight stays. Thermal water sources of Rgo ka spa as a basis for tourism development of Knja evac area

Abstract: Spa tourism is not adequately treated in the development strategies of Knja evac. Much more attention is given to the development of tourism in the mountain Stara Planina, as idea that rural tourism could become an important source of income for the population of this area. Thermal water sources, only five kilometers away from Knja evac, have not been used for tourist purposes. The goal of this paper is to analyze the potential of Rgo ka spa for tourism development in this region, with emphasis on experiences from Europe. .

Abstract: By establishing the National Council for the Geoheritage of Serbia, with 16 working groups and a large number of experts, and by involvement in the activities of the ProGEO - European Association for the Conservation of the Geological Heritage, a relatively new, interesting, and attractive activity filed was created in scope of the geo-professions, along with more favorable conditions and predispositions for a better organized approach and a more active relationship towards the geo-assets in our nature and for their more effective protection. Following the recommendation of the ProGEO - European Association for the Conservation of the Geological Heritage, the Project "Inventory of the Geoheritage Objects in Serbia" was launched, with the purpose to collect data on proposals for the geoheritage objects that reflect the most important moments in the development of the Earth's crust on the territory of Serbia, with a recommendation to protect representative examples of particular value and save them for future generations. The working groups for geomorphology and speleology have collected data for a wider list of objects that, according to any criterion, fulfill the minimal conditions to be included into the inventory of geoheritage objects (210+80), from 650 and enlisted in the Register of Protected Natural Heritage Assets of Serbia.
Hydrological heritage: New direction in hydrology and geoheritage

Abstract: Until recently hydrological heritage has practically existed in science neither as an idea nor a subject. Definitions of the main terms, general classification of hydrological heritage, as well as expanded classification of hydrological heritage of Serbia are presented in the paper which is the starting point needed for further determination of new direction in hydrology and geoheritage. The paper has also pointed to the key reasons for the previous unfavourable status of hydrological heritage and its scientific and national significance, as well as the necessity of its existence and complex development.
Periglacial relief of Crnook (southeast Serbia)

Abstract: This paper presents the results of geomorphological research of the periglacial relief on mountain Crnook (1881 m) in Southeast Serbia. The results have showed the significant presence of modern periglacial morphology on this mountain which is developing in azonal conditions of a periglacial mountain environment. Research results from Crnook are significant because they represent the continuation of similar studies on medium-high mountains of Serbia (Kopaonik, Stara Planina). Based on a comparison of data from Kopaonik, Stara Planina and Crnook (Ne i D., Milin i M., 2004; Belij S. et al., 2008; Ne i D. et al., 2009; Ne i D., 2009), it can be concluded that in similar climatic frameworks with a significant share of anthropogenic activities, in terms of reducing the forest area in the highest parts of a mountain, similar modern periglacial processes develop on mountains as an indicator of azonal or boundary development framework of modern mountain periglacial environment. During 2006-07, the project "Modern periglacial geomorphic landforms on the mountains of Serbia" was initiated and the field research was conducted on the high mountains of Serbia (Stara Planina, Kopaonik, Ku aj, Beljanica, Zlatibor), and the mountains of Southeast Serbia (Vardenik, Besna Kobila, Dukat i Crnook).

First record of Calodium hepaticum and Taenia taeniaeformis liver infection in wild Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) in Serbia

Abstract: The nematode Calodium hepaticum and the cestode Taenia taeniaeformis are zoonotic helminths primarly found in the liver of common wild rats. Most reports on these helminth species with cosmopolitan distribution are from Asia, and there is paucity of data for Europe. Wild Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) from urban and suburban habitats of the Belgrade area were examined for the presence of Calodium hepaticum and Taenia taeniaeformis larvae liver infections. The presence of visible cysts and a histomorphology of parasite-related inflammatory liver responses were sought as signs of infection. The total prevalence of infection was 10.9% (C. hepaticum) and 29.9% (T. taeniaeformis), with no differences between the sexes. No difference in the annual prevalence of both helminth species was noted. Data obtained in this study provide new information relevant to wild Norway rats as sources of C. hepaticum and T. taeniaeformis liver infection in this geographic area, and, in a wider context, in Europe. .
Effect of explant type, medium and soil mixture content on Dianthus deltoides L. rooting and acclimatization

Abstract: The possibility of developing roots and shoots on Dianthus deltoides nodal and apical cuttings on rooting media was investigated in vitro conditions. The explants developed roots and shoots successfully, and the best results were achieved on MS medium without plant hormones. Number of roots per shoot, length of roots and ramification of roots were not significantly dependent on the medium (NAA-naphthaleneacetic acid concentration), or on the type of explant used (nodal or apical cuttings). The acclimatization rate of microplants was influenced by root numbers and ramification. The transfer to soil was successful, maximum survival rates (96%) were achieved on peat - sand (4:1) mixture.
Floristic analysis of perennial species on flowerbeds in Belgrade with special attention on invasiveness of the recorded species

Abstract: Urban areas are among the most important centres of invasive plant species distribution due to their richness in alien species. Because of that, a detailed floristic analysis of perennial flowerbeds was conducted in the central parks of Belgrade. A total of 53 perennial species were found, of which 55% were the alien species planted on 75% of the research area. Among them, two species (Aster novi belgii and Solidago canadensis) are invasive and six species are potentially invasive in Serbia. These are planted on 5% and 20% of the flowerbeds, respectively. We can conclude that both the experts and institutions should be informed about the invasive species and potential damages. In the meantime, planting of native decorative species should be encouraged, since they will not pose a threat to natural habitats. Also, detailed research should be conducted in order to eradicate invasive and potentially invasive species from the surfaces around the research area.

This paper contains results of the comprehensive studies of the effect of the isotropic etching mode on roughening of the nanocomposite materials and on smoothing of the roughed nanostructure made of homogeneous materials. Three-dimensional simulation results obtained illustrate the influence of the isotropic etch process on dynamics of the roughening and smoothing of the surfaces, indicating the opposite effects of the same etch process on the surfaces made of different materials. It was shown that root mean square roughness obeys simple scaling laws during both roughening and smoothing processes. The exponential time dependences of the rms roughness have been determined.
