Abstract: hepatoportal sclerosis (hps) is characterized by presinusoidal intrahepatic portal hypertension associated with splenomegaly and anemia in patients with non-cirrhotic liver. liver biopsy is essential, especially to rule out other processes. being a disease of unknown etiology, the majority of cases have been described in eastern countries. however, it may be an underdiagnosed disease in the west. symptoms are related to portal hypertension and the clinical spectrum is wide, ranging from anemia with normal liver function tests to bleeding due to esophageal varices. treatment is directed to the complications and the prognosis is better than in patients with cirrhosis. we report three cases of hps presenting at different clinical stages and the findings of liver biopsies, the clinical outcomes and a review of scientific literature.

Abstract: Background Breast cancer is the most common neoplasia in women. Even though advances in its treatment have improved disease outcome, some patients relapse. Therefore, attempts to better define the molecular determinants that drive breast cancer cell proliferation may help in defining potential therapeutic targets. Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) play important roles in tumorigenesis. One of them, Erk5, has been linked to the proliferation of breast cancer cells in vitro. Here we have investigated the expression and prognostic value of Erk5 in human breast cancer. Methodology/Principal Findings Animal and cellular models were used to study Erk5 expression and function in breast cancer. In 84 human breast tumours the expression of Erk5 was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Active Erk5 (pErk5) was studied by Western blotting. Correlation of Erk5 with clinicopathological parameters and with disease-free survival in early stage breast cancer patients was analyzed. Expression of Erk5 was detected in most patients, and overexpression was found in 20%. Active Erk5 was present in a substantial number of samples, as well as in tumours from an animal breast cancer model. Overexpression of Erk5 was associated with a decrease in disease-free survival time, which was independent of other clinicopathological parameters of prognosis. Transient transfection of a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) targeting Erk5, and a stable cell line expressing a dominant negative form of Erk5 (Erk5AEF), were used to investigate the influence of Erk5 on drugs used in the clinic to treat breast tumours. We found that inhibition of Erk5 decreased cancer cell proliferation and also sensitized these cells to the action of anti-HER2 therapies. Conclusions/Significance Overexpression of Erk5 is an independent predictor of disease-free survival in breast cancer, and may represent a future therapeutic target.
The influence of maternal education in a group of woman

NURE Investigación , 2013,
Abstract: Understanding that pregnancy and childbirth are physiological situations of women, we can wonder us what brings maternal education (ME). Recent studies have no conclusive findings about its effectiveness. When historically ME began, the focus was on reducing pain and improving child-bearing. However, the change in the way of life of women and the introduction of new strategies in the care of child-bearing, as non-intervention, epidurals and birth plan, among others, forces us to review the objectives and activity. Objective: Analyze why women come to the courses of ME (maternal education) and how it influences them.Method: We analyze a real context in which we work and research about the experiences of pregnant women, developing a qualitative research using "discourse analysis" of information generated from the open interviews to women attending an ME program in a Health Center in Madrid (Spain). All interviews will be recorded with audio system. The participants in this research will be selected from a group of Spanish-speaking women closer in their child-bearing date.
Papel de la hidrosiembra en la revegetación de escombreras mineras

Abstract: In the absence of vegetative cover mining spoils can be subject to leaching, and to erosion by wind and water; as well as being unsightly. Rivers and streams can became clogged or polluted and adjacent areas can be contaminated. Although such wastes can be stabilized by physical means, the alternative is to cover the waste with vegetation. Revegetalion of any reclamation site will occur naturally given time, bu1 usually a more rapid development of vegetation is desirable. So, various approaches to encourage this have been tried. Plant-species selection and establishment techniques are two very important aspects to bear in mind in revegetation approaches. This paper emphasizes the role of successional studies as way to select the promising species as to test the eficacy of hydroseeding as vegetation establishment technique. Results from Mine Fe (Salamanca) reveal the mutifactorial character of natural revegetation, and to allow us to identify, the plant species associated with different revegetation stages. This information can be helpful and applied in the future management of this area. Hydroseeding has, al (he beginning, a positive effect to most of the analyzed parameters. This positive effect disappears quite soon. So, hydroseeding do not affect the natural-revegetation dynamics in Mine Fe, but the process is faster with it. A longitudinal, prospective, observational and descriptive study was conducted in 40 women, treated at the doctor's office No. 26 of "Josué País García" University Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba, from January 2011 to the same month of 2012, in order to identify the factors contributing to exclusive breastfeeding discontinuation. Among the analyzed variables were mother's age, chronic diseases, parity, socioeconomic status, education and complications in childbirth. In the case material, mothers who first discontinued breastfeeding were those between 15-19 years of age (42.5%), nulliparous (32.5%), with low socioeconomic status (50.0%) and primary education. It was demonstrated that complications during the childbirth influenced the discontinuation of this type of feeding.
