The Role of Courage in Intellectual Work  [PDF]
Liliana Beatriz Irizar
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.59114
Abstract:

Intellectual life is not a thing apart from the humanizing and moralizing influences that moral virtues provide. Saint Thomas’s teachings about moral virtues suggest how essential he considers them for a flourishing speculative life. He makes all this very clear in the Second Part of the Summa Theologiae. The potential parts of fortitude which have a crucial role in intellectual work are patience, perseverance and magnanimity. In this article I show how these potential virtues act in speculative life.

Linear Partial Differential Equations of First Order as Bi-Dimensional Inverse Moments Problem  [PDF]
Maria Beatriz Pintarelli
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/am.2015.66090
Abstract: We consider linear partial differential equations of first order
\"\" on a region \"\". We will see that we can write the equation in partial derivatives as an Fredholm integral equation of the first kind and will solve this latter with the techniques of inverse problem moments. We will find an approximated solution and bounds for the error of the estimated solution using the techniques on problem of moments.
What Autists Can Teach Us about Social Interactions and How Psychoanalytic Treatment Can Contribute to It  [PDF]
Ana Beatriz Freire, Fabio Malcher
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.511145
Abstract:

This paper aims to bring contributions from psychoanalysis to the debate about autism. We assume that while working with the autistic it is imperative to single out each case and not to seek out a standardized approach, based on a previous knowledge. The therapist oriented by psychoanalysis starts to work from a point of view where stereotyped or seemingly bizarre behaviors are taken as a resource used by the subject to protect himself from the invasion experienced in his relationship with others. The treatment, therefore, would not seek to eliminate such behaviors, but to promote the elaboration, on the autistic part, of a way of his own to belong in the world, as we will be able to follow in the exposition of a clinical case in which the subject makes use of objects in a unique manner to mediate his relationship with the other and promote his social interaction.

Properties of the Estimators for the Effective Bandwidth in a Generalized Markov Fluid Model  [PDF]
José Bavio, Beatriz Marrón
Open Journal of Statistics (OJS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojs.2018.81006
Abstract: The Generalized Markov Fluid Model (GMFM), introduced in [1], is assumed for modeling sources in the network because it is versatile to describe the traffic fluctuations. In order to estimate resources allocations or in other words the channel occupation of each source, the concept of effective bandwidth proposed by Kelly [2] is used. In this paper, we present a formula for calculating the effective bandwidth, developed for the Generalized Markovian Flow model, which is of particular interest because it allows expressing said magnitude depending on the parameters of the model. We present unbiased estimators for these parameters that can be obtained from real data. The convergence and the consistency of the estimation are studied, and confidence bands are found. Illustrative calculation and performance of the proposed estimators were tested with simulated data and ideal results were obtained.
Estado, cooperativismo eléctrico y electrificación rural: La experiencia cordobesa entre 1930 y 1980
Solveira,Beatriz;
Mundo agrario , 2006,
Abstract: although the electric cooperative movement of cordoba is one of the most important of the country and nowadays it moves great part of the economy of the interior provincial economy, its appearance and development is a matter that has not been sufficiently considered yet the local historiography. that is the reason of the decision to approach this issue which is analyzed in this chapter from the perspective of the relationships between the development of the electric cooperativism and the expansion of the state intervention in the electric sector, but paying special attention to the advances of the electrification in the rural sector. the analysis contains a wide period of half a century, between the appearance of the first electric cooperatives and the moment in which, from the electric point of view, the mediterranean province stops being an independent system and incorporates to the national interconnected system and shows the role played by those entities in the process of electrification of the countryside which is an important chapter in the argentinian electric development and in which the electric cooperatives were forerunner, long before the issue worried the public powers and when the politics of the private enterprises at the mercy of rentability, planned not even one metre of rural line. the cooperatives, instead, proved being able to do rural electrification with efficiency.
El deterioro de los ecosistemas del norte cordobés y los límites de las economías campesinas
Ensabella,Beatriz;
Mundo agrario , 2008,
Abstract: the present work intends to make a diagnosis of the situation in the north córdoba environment in general, and of the río seco, tulumba and sobremonte departments in particular, tracing the causes of the decline of the ecosystems involved. it is analyzed the ways of appropriation of the nature and the valorization of the natural resources that were made by societies through the time. the dominant political-economic model in a national scale had strong repercussions over the most important productive activities of the region, based on an extensive bovine and goat cattle-raising and the felling of the mount to obtain wood and charcoal. these activities traditionally developed by domestic units have been replaced today, in a big way, by the soya growing. the crisis of the productive modalities as well as the changes that took place on the temporary labor insertion, hardening the subsistence conditions of the regional families. the theoretical background is built from the dialog between the historicist perspectives and the new focus on geography, which offers a huge arc of aspects that tries to explain the present situation of a territory from the long process of human intervention, often painted by diverse irrationalities. this work has as an objective to show the unbreakable and irreducible relationship between society and nature. moreover, the impoverishment by degradation of one carries the decline and hardening of the other's situation. in this case, the decline of the forests and ecosystems in general, parallel to the local economic crisis, puts the inhabitants of the río seco, tulumba and sobremonte departments of the north córdoba on the margins of the system.
Brote del virus ISA: crisis ambiental y capacidad de la institucionalidad ambiental para manejar el conflicto
Bustos,Beatriz;
EURE (Santiago) , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612012000300010
Abstract: the chilean salmon industry recently experienced a crisis due to an outbreak of the isa virus. the article examines the crisis focusing on the role of science in the policy solutions proposed, to discuss the real capacity of neoliberal environmental governance mechanisms to solve environmental and economic crisis. the question guiding this research is, which was the role of science in environmental policy createdfor the salmon industry? the argument is that the crisis represents a reestructuring of the relationship between society and nature through the redefinition of property rights, control and access to natural resources, but in which, in spite of a neoliberal discourse of trust in experts and science as elements of decision making, scientific information had little relevance.
TENDENCIAS DE LIDERAZGO EN EL DOCENTE VENEZOLANO DE LA I ETAPA DE EDUCACIóN BáSICA: ESTUDIO DE CASOS
Carrera,Beatriz;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2002,
Abstract: this research aimed at determining the most striking leadership characteristics of teachers in the first stage of basic education. it employed the bass and avolio (1991 b) instrument, which makes it possible to distinguish among three constructs: the transformational leader, the transactional leader, and the laisser faire leader. the instrument is an adaptation consisting of 87 items in two formats: one for self-evaluation, to be filled out by the teacher, and another to be filled by the student who will appraise his/her teacher. the present study is oriented by its objectives toward a case study method. a study was carried out among the "a" and "b" section third grade teachers at maría inmaculada school, and their students. this institution actively participates in the pedagogical projects stipulated in the national basic curriculum (education ministry, 1998). the highest frequency of behaviors was found to be related to the presence of transformational leader-type teachers, and teachers of this kind were found to inspire trust and respect, according to the children's opinion, and to induce commitment in the teachers' judgment. both of these features are consistent with what is to be expected of an effective transformational leader.
Miradas críticas sobre el teatro posdramático
Trastoy,Beatriz;
Aisthesis , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-71812009000200013
Abstract: when analyzing post-dramatic theater, the critique, both from the academy and the media, reveals a kind of hermeneutic uneasiness, which is often resolved by pointing out different degrees of reality on stage. although pertinent, this mechanism works as an interpretative limitation. this article intends to propose the translation theory as a possible key of reading in order to overcome or, at least, to complement that critical limitation. with this aim, the author considers the staging of los muertos (ensayo sobre representaciones de la muerte en la argentina) (2006) by beatriz catani and mariano pensotti, based on "the dead", the well-known james joyce' short story.
Recuperación y desigualdad económica en el interior rural argentino del siglo XIX. Un examen sobre la composición y distribución de la riqueza en la campa?a de Mendoza a través de fuentes fiscales (1866)
Bragoni, Beatriz;
América Latina en la historia económica , 2011,
Abstract: the relation between economic growth and regional differentiations in the argentine historical experience of the 19th and 20th centuries refers to a problem regularly visited by the academic literature. particularly, the disparity between the pampean and extra-pampean regions originated the interest of specialists, concerned in identifying the characteristics of non-equivalent or asymmetric processes. this, with the object of drawing some type of an interpretative economic (and politic) map, that considers the limits of the argentine growth opposing to the richness -mostly of buenos aires- and of the pampean region, the economic deterioration of the "interior". the goal of this article is contributing to the priorly announced debate, offering statistical indicators of the personal composition and distribution of the field richness in the province of mendoza, toward 1870. said indicators allow taking into account aspects not very much regarded of the microregional differentiations previous to the agro-industrial and viticultural transformation by the turn of the 19th century.
