Texto & Contexto - Enfermagem , 2013,

Social and cultural changes in the globalizad world are new challenges for university education and encourage the formation of co-operation nets between universities and countries. Thus the "Grupo Tordesillas" was born and nowadays meets several Spanish, Brazilian and Portuguese universities. Here we propose to describe the experience of an academic agreement that some schools of nursing have established: Escola de Enfermagem Alfredo Pinto (Federal University of State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Escuela Universitaria de Estudios Sanitarios (Public University of Navarra, Spain) and Escuela Universitaria de Enfermería (University of Valladolid, Spain). Expositions of every experience have been used as methodology, taking into account the related current guidelines of participating countries. Preliminary results point at possiblity of educational and nursing research innovations, to give rise to knowledge for international nursing actions and build a co-operation net between institutions. We conclude that differences between the Tordesillas Group countries, instead of obstacles to science development, are a great oportunity to prepare profesional nurses tunning the needs of the world runn

Abstract: Expressing sexuality is an important part of life, whether the person has a spinal cord injury (SCI) or not. This study investigated the sexual activity before and after SCI, the difficulties, and adjustments made by these people in relation to their sexuality. This is a qualitative study conducted with 14 people with SCI through semi-structured interviews, which we analyzed in light of pertinent literature and organized into three themes: sexual activity before and after SCI; difficulties in performing sexual activities; and adjustments in sexual activity after SCI. We conclude that, although there may be many difficulties, with the partner’s support they can get sexual satisfaction and adapt to the new reality. Nonetheless, it is necessary and essential that the patient receive guidance about the possible changes and adaptive methods, and nurses can play a critical role in this process.

Abstract: molecular characterization of paracoccidioides brasiliensis variant strains that had been preserved under mineral oil for decades was carried out by random amplified polymorphic dna analysis (rapd). on p. brasiliensis variants in the transitional phase and strains with typical morphology, rapd produced reproducible polymorphic amplification products that differentiated them. a dendrogram based on the generated rapd patterns placed the 14 p. brasiliensis strains into five groups with similarity coefficients of 72%. a high correlation between the genotypic and phenotypic characteristics of the strains was observed. a 750 bp-rapd fragment found only in the wild-type phenotype strains was cloned and sequenced. genetic similarity analysis using blastx suggested that this rapd marker represents a putative domain of a hypothetical flavin-binding monooxygenase (fmo)-like protein of neurospora crassa.

Abstract: the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory and treatment findings from 23 cases of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome were analyzed. these cases were identified either serologically or immunohistochemically in hospitals in the municipality of uberlandia, state of minas gerais. fever (100%), dyspnea (100%) and myalgia (78%) were the symptoms most frequently observed in this sample. the most prevalent physical signs were hypotension (65%) and tachycardia (65%). the most common laboratory findings included thrombocytopenia (96%), hemoconcentration (83%) and leukocytosis (74%). abnormal values for liver enzymes were found in all the patients tested and abnormalities in chest radiography were very frequent (95.6%). in 55.5% of the patients, orotracheal intubation and hemodynamic support were required. the present study confirmed the seasonal pattern of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome in the uberlandia region and the involvement of professional groups who are considered to be at low risk of infection, in the transmission cycle of the disease. the high lethality rate (39%) and the severity of the disease observed in this study may be related to attending to these patients at a late stage.
